25.01.2022 Southern Region Weekly Wool Market report: Sale week: M30: (Compared to close of sale M29) SMI: 1167 up 33 cents 16.5 mic: 2224 +156c/kg 17.0 mic: 2038 +128... 17.5 mic: 1896 +118 18.0 mic: 1693 +59 18.5 mic: 1561 +67 19.0 mic: 1428 +38 19.5 mic: 1357 +31 20.0 mic: 1266 +21 21.0 mic: 1169 +7 22.0 mic: 1128 -20 26.0 mic: 720 -5 28.0 mic: 483 +12 30.0 mic: 375 +1 32.0 mic: 255 +4 Merino cardings: 871 +56 Summary: Melbourne wool auctions got off to a quiet start on Tuesday with 18.0 and broader categories losing some of the previous weeks gains, however demand for better style 17.5 micron categories and finer were eagerly sought by the trade and these styles all ended the day dearer. By Wednesday, all merino styles were hotly contested, especially best top making styles with good tensile strength and non-mulsed lots. This trend continued into the final day of selling today with some extremely strong price increases seen for superfine merino wool. While crossbred wool didn't see the price gains of merino wool, it held firm and closed the week relatively unchanged. The Southern Market Indicator (SMI) finished the week up 33 cents to close at 1167. Melbourne offered a total of 23,861 bales, of which 6.2% was passed-in. Wool sales continue next week, with a two-day sale commencing Wednesday due to the Tuesday public holiday. See more

22.01.2022 Southern Region Weekly Wool Market report: Sale week: M25: (Compared to close of sale M24) SMI: 1119 down 42 cents 16.5 mic: 2018 -31c/kg 17.0 mic: 1865 -53... 17.5 mic: 1733 -46 18.0 mic: 1570 -68 18.5 mic: 1474 -60 19.0 mic: 1392 -62 19.5 mic: 1323 -56 20.0 mic: 1248 -42 21.0 mic: 1181 -54 22.0 mic: 1154 -10 26.0 mic: 728 -31 28.0 mic: 469 -34 30.0 mic: 371 -25 32.0 mic: 256 -25 Merino cardings: 778 +15 Summary: Being the last week of auction sales prior to a three week Christmas recess, buyers were selective in their purchasing; favouring spinners and best-topmaking styles with good measurements over lesser style wools with poor measurements. Crossbred wools eased by 25-35c/kg. This downward trend was met with grower resistance and the pass-in rate climbed to 18.6% of the total Melbourne offering of 24,132 bales. The Southern Market Indicator (SMI) finished the week down 42 cents to close at 1119. Wool sales resume the week commencing Monday 11th January 2021.
