24.01.2022 Our report on tele-assessments is now available for download: https://www.autismspectrum.org.au//An-evaluation-of-tele-a. In this new, Australian-first study we found using #telehealth is a viable and acceptable option for conducting #autism #assessments. In response to COVID-19 restrictions, Autism Spectrum Australia (Aspect) introduced tele-assessments in March 2020. To evaluate the delivery of tele-assessments, ARCAP researchers gathered and analysed feedback from 60 clients and 7 clinicians. The findings showed almost all participants would consider a tele-assessment option in the future and would recommend tele-assessments to others. A number of considerations when delivering assessments via telehealth were also identified.

19.01.2022 In this research study, people on the #autism spectrum and their families told us how their autism had affected an interaction with #police. We found that in 93% of interactions, the individual's autistic characteristics were described as either causing or affecting their interaction. This study has just been published in the "Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders".... 11.01.2022 Dedicated autism champions and regular bank branch quiet hours are two of the key recommendations in a major study into the banking needs of Australians on the autism spectrum. Led by ARCAP and funded by Beyond Bank, the 'Inclusive Banking for Autistic Adults 2020' research revealed that a staggering number of Autistic people are either struggling to cope or just managing their personal finances on a day-to-day basis. 'The findings should be a wake-up call to all financial institutions' said Beyond Bank CEO, Robert Keogh. The Australian bank is now looking for opportunities to implement the recommended adjustments across its network.

07.01.2022 #COVID19 is worrying for everyone, but frequent changes and uncertainty caused by the pandemic can be particularly difficult for many people on the #autism spectrum and their families. As part of an international study, Dr Ru Ying Cai took a close look at the main causes of anxiety and concern during the #COVID19 pandemic among Australian families with #autistic and special needs children and what coping strategies are being used by children. A strong bi-directional relationship was found between children’s and parent’s COVID-19 related anxiety and concerns. This means children’s concerns predicted parent’s concerns and vice versa.
