15.01.2022 In September, local community member, Ronit contacted the Arcare Caulfield community to find out how she could make a difference to the lives of the residents during lockdown Ronit tells us that her family initially reached out the Arcare Caulfield community to start-up pen-pal relationships with the residents. [We] had been writing letters to each other for a few months and one day, I decided to drop one of the letters off at Arcare. In that moment, seeing the residents at... the windows interacting with their families and some walking in their front yard, I knew we could do more. Ronit said. Partnering with Shlomo Nathanson & Sharon Lowe from CCare and local florist, Pickled Willow Flowers, Ronit put the call out for the community to sponsor a posy jar as a way of supporting and connecting with the residents at Arcare Caulfield. Partnering with CCARE and local florist, Pickled Willow Flowers, Ronit put the call out for the community to sponsor a posy jar as a way of connecting with residents. Much to Ronit's surprise, she received an outstanding response from the community and far exceeded the campaign’s goals in just the first week. Ronit’s Sponsor a Floral Posy Jar campaign raised enough money to fund 1200 posy arrangements for aged care residents in the local community. The Arcare Caulfield community were the first aged care home to receive the heartfelt flowers from Ronit's campaign, with over one hundred posies being delivered in early September. The amazing gesture delivered an abundance of joy and smiles to the Arcare community, with many residents shedding a tear as they learnt about how and why the flowers came to be. 05.01.2022 In August, the Arcare Malvern East Lifestyle team launched the community's new Recipe Club. This was a great opportunity for residents to share their recipes, culinary knowledge and skills, and discuss their passion for cooking and baking with like-minded individuals. During the club's first meeting, the ladies enjoyed reminiscing about how and what they would cook with their grandmothers and mothers. This inspired many to share a few of their own family's favourite meals and... recipes. The four founding club members spread the word after the first meeting and membership is now flourishing. The club has banded together to discuss, select and create some old-fashioned favourite recipes, which they hope will be included on the Malvern East menu. Over the next few months, Malvern East's Recipe Club will be collating a mixture of personal recipes, as well as sorting through sixty old-fashioned recipe books, in order to find the perfect soup, main meal, sweets and dessert recipes. The club hope that through their thorough research and discussion, they will be eventually be able to compile all of their passion, knowledge, years of experience and beloved memories into a community cookbook. What are some of your favourite family recipes?
