Our interior designer, Lily Vaughan, opens up about her creative process. ‘Using warm finishes such as timbers and plush textures I think achieves a homely feel,’ Lily tells us. ‘I like to keep the main finishes simple throughout the facility and then layer with décor and artwork. Textural elements such as cushions and throws help make a space feel warm and inviting. 15.01.2022 I’ve been dining at the same table in the time that I’ve been there. There’s another gentleman, Gus, who has become a close friend. We have a lot of fun swapping experiences and jokes. Gus told me when I first arrived, "You will really like it here!’" And he’s right, I do like it here. It’s because they make us welcome and look after us properly. I’ve been here for 16 months now, I have to accept that I’m now in a home and will be for the rest of my life because I have a cancer and it’s incurable. The nursing staff take pride in understanding what I need. Here I am - happy. For many of our residents, this week has been an opportunity to celebrate the varied and diverse love stories that exist within our community Over at Arcare Slacks Creek, resident Pat tells us that she met her husband Lans at a popular dance club named Cloudland that was located at the top of Bowen Hills. He was a young constable at that time and we just clicked,’... He offered to take me home, but I said no and that I wanted nothing to do with him. But he insisted and I eventually said yes. My husband insisted that whatever we did, we did it together! Pat shared. After getting married in 1963, they had three kids together named Mark, Donna and Paul. I am very proud of my children, they each have three children of their own, so I have nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. 02.01.2022 Meet George and Diane, residents at Arcare Peregian Springs in Queensland. Earlier this week, George reminisced on the first time he met the love of his life, Diane in Fiji. George was working for Qantas at the time and Diane was in Fiji to play netball. Diane flew back to Sydney and not long after she received a phone call from George who asked her out for a date in 1973. They were married within twelve months and the rest was history.Since then, they have explored and trave...lled the world together.
