25.01.2022 Recently June and Cecilia both moved into the Arcare Maidstone community, and after meeting each other for the first time at a lifestyle activity, the pair hit it off and have been great friends ever since. June and Cecillia bonded over shared interest in volunteering, as both ladies have completed extensive volunteer work within the local community over the years. The pair now enjoy getting together to have a chat in the cafe, play some board games, attend bingo and attend the community's flower arranging workshops.
25.01.2022 Arcare Caulfield client, Rose Claire has been keeping busy during the lockdown knitting beanies for the homeless. While she has some extra time on her hands, Rose Claire wanted to start a meaningful project which would positively impact the wider Victorian community. With winter's colder days and nights, Rose Claire thought that the homeless community could benefit from some handmade woollen beanies to keep them warm.... Rose Claire intends to continue knit her beanies over the coming months, and is currently looking to donate her thoughtful creations to several local charities.
25.01.2022 Recently the Arcare Templestowe community welcomed new feathery arrivals into the community. After twelve eggs were setup in an incubator in the activities room, the community anxiously awaiting the arrival of their baby chicks. Finally the time came, and the community gathered around to watch on, as three of the twelve eggs hatched. With each new day after that, a new baby chick hatched, much to the delight of the observers.... Once the chicks grew in size and were strong enough, the lifestyle team introduced them into their play-pen, where they were able to roam freely, and the residents were able to pat, and pick up and cuddle with the baby chicks as they wished.The lifestyle team have also been doing suite visits with the chicks, to ensure that no one misses out on the warm cuddles. Over the last month, the community have watched as the chicks have thrived. Lifestyle Coordinator, Kerryn says, "This was the perfect activity for the lockdown. It was the much-needed light for many during these dark and difficult times." Now the chicks have grown, the lifestyle team have been busy searching for their permanent, forever homes. Already all the chicks have found their home, with many excited team members and their families offering to take them in. 25.01.2022 World Photography Day is an annual, worldwide celebration of the art, craft, science and history of photography. This year, the Arcare Keysborough community celebrated with a summer theme (despite being winter and in lockdown in Melbourne!). Everyone got into the spirit posing with props and the gorgeous Mediterranean scenery out the window.... The lifestyle team setup a fun photobooth and colourful background, before encouraging the entire community to come along to strike a pose and have their portrait taken.
23.01.2022 Resident Glenis at Arcare North Lakes has been practicing a new hobby of hers painting by numbers! Glenis has never done painting before, but we love her never-say-never spirit as she decided to give it a go anyway. ‘It has actually been really relaxing to paint in between all the activities and mealtimes,’ she shared. 23.01.2022 During lockdown, Arcare Knox The Lodge resident, Lilian has been busy knitting teddy bears for Syrian children. While Lilian knits the body of bears, the teddy bears are really a community effort. And she is #grateful for her daughter who helps to sew the heads and the local school children who help to stuff the bears. 91-year-old Lilian is now knitting her 57th teddy bear for the children of Syria.... "I enjoy helping my daughter to make clothes and toys to send to the children of Syria. It's good to know that we are making a difference." Lilian said.

23.01.2022 To fulfill their desire to travel and explore the world, clients at Arcare Sanctuary Manors took a trip to sunny Spain - all from the comforts and safety of their lounge chairs. Lifestyle Co-ordinator Rickie discussed Spain’s history, geography and culture as some of the clients were interested in knowing more about the tomato-throwing festival and the famous flamenco. As they watched various cultural videos, those that had travelled to Spain began sharing stories of place...s they had been to and the experiences that they had. 22.01.2022 Thursday 18 December marked a special day at our Arcare Oatlands Community. Bishop Vincent Long Van Nguyen from Saint Patrick's Cathedral Parramatta conducted a beautiful Christmas Mass at the residence. This was the first time in numerous months that our residents could gather for a sacred Mass. The Arcare Oatlands residents were overjoyed and could not contain their excitement with their glowing smiles singing with Joy to the World and Silent Night enthusiastically . Having an individual blessing from the Bishop and then Communion was truly something special. Bishop Vincent Long commented that during the service it was a blessing that no residents fell asleep! As a community we are hopeful we can continue hosting masses within our Arcare Community.
22.01.2022 Clients at Arcare Parkinson celebrated their own Tradie Day by donning hi-vis vests, hard hats and picking up some tradie tools. 22.01.2022 Former teacher and librarian, Tony recently moved into the Arcare Knox community. Tony had one condition on his move into aged care- that his extensive book collection could come along with him. On Tony's first day at The Lodge, Lifestyle Assistant, Bec met with him to help move in and organise his book collection. The pair spent hours organising hundreds of Tony's books into specific categories- the only way a true librarian knows how. "Walking into Tony's suite feels like ...you've walked straight into a library. He has a book on just about everything." Bec said. Tony, who is fluent in 7 languages, has a passion for learning and is #grateful to be surrounded by his books.

21.01.2022 Winifred is knitting like she’s never knitted before! Four years ago, Winifred started knitting little teddy bears for the newborn babies in the maternity ward at the Sunshine Coast Hospital. And together with her good friend Ursula, they knitted and donated over five hundred teddy bears to the hospital! Now, she is hoping to give this lot of handmade teddy bears to the local kindergarten children just down the road from Arcare Maroochydore. 19.01.2022 During lockdown, Arcare Brighton's Green Thumbs Club have enjoyed meeting on a regular basis to pot around in the community's raised garden beds. The group have taken ownership of the small garden space, and have enjoyed being able transform the garden and make it their own. Recently the Green Thumbs gathered to harvest the community's thriving broccoli plants, and to start work on planting new veggies and herbs for Spring.... The residents were quite impressed with the size of their broccoli, with one resident saying, "It's about the love and attention that you give the plant." Once the group finished harvesting, the group sat down to start planning their next project together. "This should go nice with dinner," one green thumb said, as she admired their broccoli harvest.
19.01.2022 Arcare Malvern East's gardening club meets on a weekly basis to tend to the various raised garden beds in the courtyard and discuss all things horticulture. The group enjoy weeding, pruning, planting and providing general maintenance and love to their garden. Currently the garden beds are stocked with various fresh vegetables, herbs and fruits. ... Recently on a lovely sunny morning, the residents from the gardening club worked alongside Lifestyle Coordinator, Tina to harvest their ripe lettuce crop. The lettuce was cleaned and used in a Greek salad for all to enjoy at dinner. After all the hard work was done, the residents lounged back in the outdoor chairs, feeling #grateful for their garden, the fresh air and the sunshine.

13.01.2022 To celebrate all of the grandparents at Arcare Keysborough, the community's lifestyle team reached out to family members to ask for their help to organise a special surprise for all the residents. As families still can't visit their loved ones due to Level 4 lockdown restrictions, the lifestyle team thought it would be a beautiful gesture to ask families and any grandchildren to send in any family photos and heartfelt letters, so they could create a special Grandparents Day a...lbum for each resident. After receiving hundreds of photos and letters, the Keysborough lifestyle team worked tirelessly to collate everything into personalised albums for each resident to receive. The recipients were beyond delighted to receive the albums. "Their reactions were absolutely priceless," Lifestyle Coordinator Alison said. "You could tell that these albums really meant a lot."

13.01.2022 Making the most of staying indoors during the precautionary lockdown, residents at Arcare Oatlands decided to a take a trip back to their childhood. Gathering pieces of papers, they put on their engineering hats and folded their best paper plane. Their passion for flights was heightened by the friendly competition with an enthusiastic audience cheering them on to see whose plane flew the furtherest. ‘It’s the simple things that bring so much joy!’ Doreen said. 12.01.2022 The Church family are a familiar sight in our Arcare North Shore community Especially during the Christmas season as they prepare gifts of love for one special resident in our community - Patricia. Patricia’s family lives in Canada, so six-year-old Xavier and four-year-old Ella made it a point to show her some extra love this Christmas The children created artworks from their favourite books and even made the gift wrap for the present. Inside their present to Patricia ...was a handstitched Christmas tree, a book about animal hugs and some lovely hand towels. 12.01.2022 Residents Lore, Minchul and Rudi at Arcare Glenhaven have formed interstate friendships with children from Victoria! They write letters to one another, as part of a project called Letters Against ISO. So far, they have received three letters from them - two in German and one in Korean, as these children are dedicated to writing to residents who speak another language besides English.... 10.01.2022 In late August, the Arcare Surrey Hills community created and opened their first "Window of Love". The team set up the window to enable residents to catch up with their loved ones. "Although we are still in Stage 4 lockdown and families can't visit, the Window of Love enables clients and their families to meet and see each other safely. It has been wonderful to see people reunite and the smiles that engenders." Lifestyle Coordinator, Rachel said.... Residents and their family members or friends will talk through a mobile phone to one another, as to not break the strict health and safety protocols that are in place. Resident, Val was the first to have a face to face meeting with her son, Leigh. Leigh was so #grateful to see his mum in person, after weeks of only communicating through video call.
10.01.2022 Every second Friday afternoon for the last two months, the Arcare Reservoir community have been virtually meeting up with the children from the local Paisley Park Childcare Centre. The virtual play-dates are run through Zoom with around ten residents regularly attending the fortnightly sessions. The residents have been enjoying watching the children sing songs, dance, tell stories and talk about themselves The virtual program has been an uplifting experience for many, and has... brought some much-needed joy into the community during these uncertain times. "Everyone really looks forward to to seeing the children, and both the residents and children have enjoyed getting to know one another. Everyone has been missing their families and their grandchildren during lockdown, however this activity has been a great way to help bridge that gap. It brings a lot of joy." 07.01.2022 Meet Mavis Morrison, she is without a doubt the Brisbane Broncos’ biggest fan! She watches their games every Friday night and cheers them on all the way from her suite at Arcare Pimpama. After learning about Mavis’ love for the team and the sport, a Personal Support Worker took the initiative to email the Brisbane Broncos team. 05.01.2022 Mamma Mia! It was disco dancing and Swedish singing at Arcare Parkinson when Lifestyle Co-ordinators Hazel and Jodie donned their flashiest costumes. They felt "super trouper" that day as they went around the residence bringing smiles to residents and team members. 05.01.2022 Arcare Caulfield residence manager, Deanne recently started bringing in her dog, Gertie to work with her. Deanne thought that a visit from Gertie's precious scruffy face, would certainly help cheer up residents during this lockdown. Gertie's calm and friendly nature has made her an excellent companion for many of the residents, with many asking, if she could sit with them for pats and cuddle. Some even enjoy taking Gertie for walks around the residence. Gertie has quickly be...come a popular presence with the Arcare Caulfield community, with many requesting that Deanne to bring her in more often, and some joking that they should put Gertie on the payroll. The residents absolutely love her, and she is very placid with them. They all love a pat, but I think that Ted is secretly her favourite. Deanne says. Arcare Caulfield resident, Ted and furry community member, Gertie have become inseparable, after spending time in lockdown together. Gertie has become a wonderful companion for Ted, as they often enjoy sitting together, going to lifestyle activities, and cuddling up for some pats. Ted and Gertie have formed a lovely friendship, so much so, that Gertie now independently goes off to find Ted throughout the day. Without fail every time, Gertie trots down the halls and finds Ted and his suite all on her own.
05.01.2022 During the recent COVID lockdown, the team at Arcare Craigieburn took all the necessary precautions to ensure that life could remain as normal as possible for all. The team found ways to ensure that residents could safely enjoy their daily walks in the courtyard, Breakfast Club, exercise classes, games, Happy Hour and a variety of other lifestyle activities. Residents were encouraged to sanitise their hands and wear facemasks, before heading outside their suite to join in the... community's activities. Recently the Craigieburn lifestyle team surprised the community by organising the 'Jolly Trolley', which was a mobile trolley that was filled with a variety of sweet and savoury goodies. As the residents were unable to go out to get their own treats during lockdown, the lifestyle team wanted to ensure that were fully stocked up on any and every craving. The lifestyle team travelled around the residence with the trolley to visit all the residents. On offer was a variety of chips, soft drinks, lollies, sweet and savoury biscuits, cheese and crackers and chocolates. Everyone was surprised and pleased to see the Jolly Trolley - "What a clever idea!" was the feedback.

So far, it has proved to be very popular among the residents and they tend to even get a little competitive during their games. 03.01.2022 Tis' the season of giving! Resident Necia at Arcare Pimpama donated her beautiful knitted teddies to community group STEPS 4208, as part of their Christmas appeal. I enjoy crocheting and knitting in my spare time. And I’m happy to knit these bears for others, Necia said. While Sue, Penny, Gavin and Beverly from STEPS 4208 brought along gift baskets of their own, including ones gifted from Michael Crandon MP .... STEPS 4208 aim to raise awareness for mental health among the community by bringing people together. Necia’s teddies are a personal gift made with care and love and it’s wonderful for her to share that with us and others, Sue shared. We will be donating them to the Children’s Ward at Gold Coast University Hospital - GCUH for those who cannot make it home for Christmas. What a wonderful initiative for us to be a part of

02.01.2022 Resident Carol has been improving the daily lives of Arcare Glenhaven’s team members by crocheting and sewing mask strips! Carol decided to make them after noticing many team members complaining of the masks slipping down their face or hurting their ears. Carol’s strips of cotton, complete with buttons, have been helping to hold our team members’ masks in place. Word has travelled fast among the Glenhaven community and now, people are putting in their orders with Carol, even ...having the option to select their own colours and style of buttons.
