24.01.2022 Child Protection Week 2020- Putting Children First Through a collaboration of Child and Family Interagency Services we were involved in the planning and presentation of a Teddy Bear’s ZOOM Picnic. The ZOOM Picnic was hosted by Amanda Flack (Australian Red Cross ) & Naomi Steinborner (Blue Sky Community Services). Uncle Richard was live in an acknowledgement of First Nations countries including: Gumbaynggirr, Dunghutti, Biripai, Anaiwan and Bundjalung & shared the import...ance of this acknowledgment. Agencies worked together to create pre-recorded videos of songs in First Nation languages & Burmese, healthy eating ideas & tips, storytelling, craft and a LIVE guest appearance of Red Cross TED to inspire everyone in dancing. They were joined for an hour by over 70 smiling faces made up of children, parents, child care groups and service providers from across the region, Port Macquarie, Kempsey, Nambucca and Coffs Harbour. Amazing job Team! #childprotectionweek2020 #redcrossaustralia #teamwork #midnorthcoastnsw

19.01.2022 For most Australians, the end of 2019-2020 was a year filled with uncertainty, loss and change. When we are faced with things beyond our control, it’s easy & normal to worry. The British Red Cross have developed a useful tool, ‘Circles of Control activity’, which can help you to understand your worries & the small acts that can make you feel better. source: British Red Cross https://bit.ly/CirclesOfControlFB 1: Draw two circles, one inside the other. ... 2. Write down all the things you worry about, but can't control in the outer circles. How other people behave/feel, other people’s opinions, the past/future, illness. 3. Put all the things you can control in the inner circle. How I look after my mental & physical health, my attitude, limiting social media/news, my actions/reactions. 4. Try focusing on the inner circle, & things you can control. Even if you start by taking small steps to manage your worries, it can make a real difference. What might you do differently now you've done this activity? #mentalhealth #wellbeing #advice #FridayChallenge

17.01.2022 Today is World Pet Day! We can all agree that our furry friends give us alot of joy and unconditional love. Red Cross has its own band of tail-wagging heroes, who for over a hundred years have been helping us support people in crisis all over the world. During WW2 Red Cross dogs were assigned jobs to search for wounded soldiers or carry important messages, thus saving thousands of lives. These days they search for people after a natural disaster such as a landslid...e, earthquake or avalanche. Some of our furry mates are therapy dogs & play a vital role in offering emotional support to people such as the elderly in nursing homes or those who have suffered a personal crisis. Just like humans, pets can get injured or ill. Knowing what to do before you get to the vet can save their life. Get prepared and take one of our Pet First Aid Courses:- https://www.redcross.org.au/get-i//first-aid/pet-first-aid

To help, head to the link below to find a list of some simple, but effective things you can do to look after your wellbeing. bit.ly/2xsl6S2

03.01.2022 Packing an Emergency Evacuation Kit Who has had a go at packing an Emergency Evacuation Kit? The good news is that it is an easy, but important step in getting prepared to protect yourself, the people you love and the things you value most. Emergencies can strike at anytime, anywhere & without warning. In emergencies you typically don't have much time to think or gather everything you need. Some clever volunteers at Australian Red Cross have created a video to give yo...u an example of what you might pack. Reduce the stress & ensure you don’t forget things that are important to you by creating an emergency evacuation kit in advance. Talk with your household to identify special items that you can’t replace. Write them down & keep the list on top of your kit so you can remember to get some of those in an event when you’re maybe not thinking as clearly. You can find more information in our RediPlan & Emergency kit checklist: https://www.redcross.org.au/prepare #EmergencyPreparedness #NSWFloods #RediPlan #GetRedi #PlanAhead #EmergencyServices #EmergencyEvacuationKit #Volunteers

Understanding emergency messages helps you to make decisions to keep you are your household safe this summer.

01.01.2022 Today the Australian Red Cross Trauma Teddy turns 30!! We estimate a mind-blowing 7.5 million volunteer knitting hours have been spent lovingly hand-knitting Trauma Teddies over the past 30 years! Thankyou to all the Volunteers for the hours you generously dedicate to knitting them, producing over 50,000 each year! Did you know it can take 5 hours to make one Trauma Teddy? Our colourfully knitted Trauma Teddies, instantly recognised nationally, first started in Campb...elltown 1990 as the brainchild of ambulance service superintendent Richard Hamilton, who had witnessed the calming effects the teddy bears had on the children. Since then, these incredibly special teddies have been given to many adults and over ONE MILLION children during stressful times to provide some comfort, lower anxiety levels and offer a sense of calm and safety. Our teddies’ main mission is to keep children company while being treated in an ambulance or hospital. They have also been comforting children fleeing the bushfires, providing a warm welcome to refugee children, and bringing smiles to the faces of dementia patients. Do you want to help out? You don’t need to be a Red Cross volunteer. Just download the easy to follow instructions and pattern to start knittinghttps://www.redcross.org.au//knitting-for-kindness-trauma- You can join a knitting group and become one of our valued Trauma Teddy knitters.
