25.01.2022 I hope you all had a happy and holy summer break, and are settling into life as we know it again. Here is my first weekly update for 2021.
24.01.2022 Advent, the lead-up to Christmas, is about watching and waiting, as the shepherds in the fields, the kings from the East and Mary and Joseph watched and waited, Archbishop Philip Freier tells staff and students at the Beaconhills College Christmas Advent service. Victorians know about watching and waiting this year, not least students undertaking home schooling, he says. Archbishop Freier encourages Christians to light candles at Christmas, for they show advent is a pilgrimage, a journey through the great celebrations of Christmas. Watching and waiting is a gift from God, he says, which is true despite being contrary to our expectations.
22.01.2022 My latest weekly update from Bishopscourt.
22.01.2022 Here's my weekly update for this week about the upcoming meeting of Synod on Friday.
20.01.2022 More than 100 local faith communities across Australia from diverse traditions will hold events today as part of a major global multi-faith day of action to ‘sound the alarm’ for the climate.
19.01.2022 My thoughts on what's been happening in this past week.
15.01.2022 I've been a guest on the first two episodes of the new podcast that is a partnership between the Anglican Diocese of Melbourne and ISCASTChristians in Science & Technology: Angles on Science, Faith and Culture. In the first episode we looked at the moon landing, and in this latest one we spoke about Christ, creation and the climate. You can listen to it by searching 'Angles on Science, Faith and Technology' on your podcatcher of choice, or follow the link below.
13.01.2022 I wish Ken the very best for his future endeavours and give thanks to God for his Christian service over these past years.
12.01.2022 After being on leave for the past fortnight, I'm back with a new weekly update, which you can watch here:
11.01.2022 Well it has been a week of contrast for us here in Victoria, and as the news arrives that we will be leaving lockdown tonight we are also marking Ash Wednesday.
10.01.2022 In my latest weekly update I offer my thanks to those Covid-Safe Officers who are investing their time bringing our parishes up to standard and look at the issue of affordable housing
10.01.2022 More Australians are at risk of this calamity than at any time since the Great Depression. If the Federal Government it cuts the vital JobSeeker program by $300 a fortnight from 25 September this will create considerable hardship. It will plunge people into poverty, including more than a million children. But there is a large and growing chorus of voices calling on the Federal Government to ensure JobSeeker is above the poverty line, now and into the future.
10.01.2022 The Pilgrim Journey: My weekly update from locked-down Melbourne.
09.01.2022 My thoughts on some of the issues that have been felt around the world this week.
09.01.2022 A few of my thoughts from this past week in lockdown.
09.01.2022 I am pleading with the Federal Government to keep JobSeeker payments at their current level. If it goes back to the level that it was before the pandemic, that will be only about $40 a day - way below the poverty line and not enough to cover even life’s basics like rent, food and medicine. And more Australians are at risk of this calamity than at any time since the Great Depression. It will plunge people into poverty, including more than a million children. 05.01.2022 My weekly update following some good news out of Victoria.
05.01.2022 In this week's weekly update, I reflect on how the circumstances of the time might go on to impact young people in the future, and whether we'll remember the Covid-19 times like older generations recalled the Great Depression.
04.01.2022 In this week’s lockdown video, Archbishop Philip Freier recognises how frustrating it is for health authorities and all Victorians that COVID-19 restrictions have to be imposed for longer in response to fresh outbreaks. But he recognises that we all have a responsibility to keep ourselves and others safe.
