With running Bike Month from 1 to 31 October, the McGowan Gov...ernment is delivering a record $50,000 in grants to support organisations holding events throughout the month, including City of Cockburn. These grants will support our local, small businesses as WA continues its road to recovery out of COVID-19. 19.01.2022 We all know just how hard 2020 has been. Here in WA, our State is in the best possible position as we continue our strong recovery from COVID-19. But times are... still tough for many Western Australians, and there is always more work to do. At the start of the pandemic, to give everyone certainty, we rolled out a freeze on all household fees and charges. Today, as a result of our strong budget management over the last three years, we can now go one step further. Every household in Western Australia will receive a historic, one-off $600 Household Electricity Credit. The WA Household Electricity Credit will be automatically applied to every Synergy or Horizon Power residential account as of today. You will see it on your own bill in November and December. It'll mean WA families have a bit of extra money available in the lead up to Christmas. The $600 credit is fully funded through the recent Bell Group settlement, for the losses incurred in the Bell Group collapse in the early 1990s. It made sense that these funds go straight back to Western Australians. Especially in times like these, when people may need that bit of extra financial relief because of COVID-19. But I have a request: If this credit means you can spend some extra money, use it to support our local WA businesses. By spending local, you'll be helping to support WA jobs, support your fellow West Aussies, and keep WA safe and strong.

12.01.2022 Arche Health has been awarded the ‘Lead Agency’ role of the Cannington headspace Centre. During the development of headspace Cannington, we will be designing many aspects of the services, and of the establishment, with and around young people. Therefore, within this process, we hope to gain more understanding of mental health in our youth, in the areas in which headspace centre will service. After careful consideration following preliminary feasibility study, we have identif...ied a suitable site among 2-3 options that we have short listed to begin concept design. In line with the City of Canning Standards of Provision: community service buildings like youth service centres are accessible via public transport or non-vehicular transport and that they are designed and fitted out to be comfortable and safe for young people to use. The property that’s shortlisted is located on 1468 Albany Highway, Cannington. We want to hear from people aged between 12-25 years, so we can better identify what would work well, and where the gaps lie, in regard to accessing mental health and well-being. We’re excited to move into the next phase and encourage passionate young people to get involved. 02.01.2022 Today, Mayor Patrick Hall - City of Canning was joined by Hon Steve Irons, Hon Bill Johnston MLA and Department of Water and Environmental Regulation Director G...eneral, Mike Rowe to officially open Canning's first smart park. The Wharf Street Next Generation Community Park has transformed a Water Corporation stormwater basin into a multipurpose space. The park has range of Internet of Things (IoT) sensors to measure, water quality, weather conditions and power use in real time. It also has free WiFi, smart bins and irrigation, solar power, a small nature playground, an informal education, a boardwalk a, a 40m art mural and a bridge that connects Wharf Street to Leila Street. There’s a AR app - Smart Canning - that has educational games and works in the park. It’s free from the Apple Store and Google Play Store.
