25.01.2022 *** AUTISM ASSESSMENTS*** **SHORTENED WAIT TIME** To keep our wait lists at a minimum for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) assessments we have new, experienced ASD psychologists coming on board to see those children who potentially meet criteria for a diagnosis. A diagnosis of an ASD can open up the potential for NDIS funding as well as enhance parental, school and peer support structures for those on the spectrum. Please call our practice manager, Anita Barrett on 6124 2222 for more information

While most people are now having face to face appointments some individuals are still showing a preference for Telehealth. Individuals will now be able to elect to receive Telehealth services until the end of March

21.01.2022 FYI for those who haven’t seen this. Unfortunately the below has been circulated on social media today. For those of you with young children and adolescents it’s asked that you try and refrain your children from using social media until it can be taken down.
21.01.2022 Often we think we’re a lot more responsible for something that’s happening than we are. This is especially the case for those of us who experience anxiety and depression. Remember, the role we play in situations is often much smaller than we think.

17.01.2022 Being assertive is something that a lot of people we see struggle with. Don’t say yes to things solely because you feel like you have to. Say yes to events and people that make you feel good and serve a purpose in your life
15.01.2022 Make sure you leave yourself time for some R&R this weekend. Think about how you could change your lifestyle to incorporate optimising your eating, sleeping, and exercise. These are the three pillars that underpin mental health

10.01.2022 Happy Father’s Day to all the Dad’s out there! We love Bluey! Bandit, the father in Bluey is a wonderful example of modern fatherhood, demonstrating the importance Dad’s have in their child’s upbringing by being present in activities, engaging in play and outwardly demonstrating love
09.01.2022 This is a great demonstration of how activity can positively impact on mood When we’re feeling depressed it’s super important to override those feelings of low energy and a lack of motivation to do something small. Often the action of doing something leads us to a feel a sense of satisfaction and achievement which can further spur on a desire to do more, hence improve our mood Thanks Liz and Mollie for sharing this
09.01.2022 It’s National Psychology Week and this years theme is pain. Did you know psychologists work with persistent pain syndromes?! Important facts: Seeing a psychologist for pain doesn’t mean that the pain is all in your head!! ... You’re not alone! This year in Australia 3.37 million people are living with persistent pain. Of these 53.8% are women and 46.2% are male. Psychologists can help you manage pain by providing education and examining the thoughts, feelings and behaviours that are associated with pain. Pain is protective- it’s designed to help us avoid danger or further damage. Persistent pain occurs when these signals that were originally helpful persist. Persistent pain can get easier to manage- with a multi-disciplinary approach, pain can lessen in intensity, or significantly improve!
08.01.2022 Exciting news! Archer Street Health is going to be running psychology groups! We’re in the early stages of planning 10 x 1.5 hour group sessions for the treatment of anxiety and depression using cognitive and behavioural therapy. We’re hoping these sessions will kick off in April! These sessions will focus on psycho education and skills based learning Our aim is to extend our ability to provide services as we understand the difficulty people are having accessing 1:1 serv...ices in Hobart in the current climate. Priority will be given to those currently on our waitlist but we are taking expressions of interest from anyone who thinks they may benefit from these groups The nitty gritty: each mental health care plan enables an individual to receive a partial rebate for up to 10 group therapy sessions. This means that if you have a mental health care plan already, as long as we have a copy, you don’t need anything else! If you’re interested in registering your interest please call 6124 2222 or email us at [email protected]
08.01.2022 We always try and get people who are referred to our service in for an appointment as soon as possible. As you can see however, the demand of psychological services has skyrocketed this year with services across the country developing lengthy wait lists with COVID-19, subsequent illness, financial distress and isolation being just some of the factors leading to a higher demand for mental health services. Sometimes we won’t be able to book you in for several weeks but if you ask our admin to be placed onto your clinician’s cancellation list (and you can be flexible with day/time) this will often lead to a much earlier appointment for you
07.01.2022 Meet our new psychiatrist Dr Anca Corbu!! Born in Romania, Dr Corbu then did her psychiatry training in Australia. 06.01.2022 Grace Tame has been awarded Australian of the Year for her work in lobbying to overturn a law that prevented survivors of sexual assault to be able to speak up about their abuse. This positive change allows individuals to talk more freely about the negative impact sexual abuse has on mental health. What a worthy recipient she is
06.01.2022 One of our lovely psychologists sent this to us today- such a good picture that depicts why small goals (or SMART goals) are important. Set yourself a goal that is both achievable and realistic. We need to see progress, not failure and reasonable goals help us do this.
05.01.2022 It’s been a ‘ruff’ year! At least it’s Friday

02.01.2022 Sometimes it’s hard to describe how we feel! This chart helps us break down the basic emotions into more descriptive terms. This can be useful when trying to explain to others how you’re feeling about something
01.01.2022 Amanda Donnett from Spilt Milk Psychology in Brisbane has put together this infographic and we think it’s pretty neat Sunday’s are a good time to practice some self care by engaging in what’s important. Self care isn’t about taking bubble baths it’s about rest and renewal so we have the resources to tackle the things we need to
