25.01.2022 Spent some time out on site at @aurorahill.hodgsonvale with the clients and @lavish_constructions yesterday afternoon. It was great to talk through their ideas and aspirations for the site and take in the views from what will become their back doorstep, fire pit and outdoor entertaining space. @vue_toowoomba

24.01.2022 Our projects aren’t limited to type, size or budget. Get in touch if you would like to discuss your project or book in for a complimentary Mini Session.

22.01.2022 AB Concept: Compact House A quick snap of the upstairs circulation space. It functions as a stairway, breezeway, light box and study/ home office.

21.01.2022 AB Concept House I thought I would post up a bit of an idea I’ve had for a while. It seeks to challenge the idea that houses need to be big and over the top. This concept house is a 3 bed, 1.5 baths, 1 car arrangement. It’s just a touch over 140sq.m and personally it would suit our growing family perfectly. Currently we occupy a 2 bed 70 sq.m cottage in North Toowoomba so this house would pretty much double our space. Keen to hear people’s thoughts on this one? Could you do without the unnecessary mod cons for an upgrade in finish?

18.01.2022 AB_Burke Street Duplex with @brcpropertygroup & @trailprojects I thought I would put up another snap of the model which is a perspective from the street. In this stage we weigh up the streetscape appeal, start prototyping the different roof options and against the internal spaces and start adding some textures/planting to help soften the home and help it blend in with the streetscape.

15.01.2022 AB East Toowoomba House We thought we would share this project even though it has been placed on hold given the current climate. The clients love camping with their young family and wanted an extension which reflects their shared love of the outdoors. To achieve this we explored 2x key design considerations. Firstly, the floor finish is continued internally to make the kitchen feel part of the backyard and secondly, the dark indigo ceiling picks up on the existing jacaranda tree on site. As soon as you enter into this space views of the jacaranda are opened up and large openings bring the outside in.

15.01.2022 Get in touch and say hello! We would love to hear your story and the aspirations you have for your home.

13.01.2022 AB_ Burke Street Duplex with @brcpropertygroup & @trailprojects I thought I would share a few quick snaps of the Burke Street Model. As far as the process goes we have been through the sketch design phase, we are refining the plan and making sure it feels right spatially in the 3D model. We are able to give it co-ordinates, map the sun path and find out how much natural sunlight makes it into the home. This image is taken at 8am on 21 June (Winter Solstice) so we are aiming to get as much sun into those kitchen and living areas as possible.

09.01.2022 AB_Rangeville H2 House with @brcpropertygroup &. @trailprojects The approach to this new build at the top of the range is to deliberately downplay the home from the street. We allow the landscape to take centre stage, softening the approach and drawing you into the entry. It is at that point where the full extent of the home is revealed, the site falls away and a lower story is tucked underneath allowing long views to the NE.

08.01.2022 Our approach in all of our projects is to tune into the clients wavelength and present ideas which are slightly left of field but still reference familiar materials and elements. In this project we are utilising traditional materials in slightly more modern ways to help gel the clients love for the cottage aesthetic with a contemporary way of living. We are referencing the edge condition of the verandah, the volume of the gable form which is anchored into the site with a fireplace in the outdoor room.

04.01.2022 A quick sketch from the drawing board for a new house which is a little bit quirky and a point of difference for the clients. It seeks to reinterpret the idea of the ‘front verandah’ whilst utilising traditional materials to help blend the house into the streetscape.

04.01.2022 A few tweaks to the website, a little bit more about me and a projects section added.

03.01.2022 AB Concept - Compact House This cross section through the breezeway explains the important role this space plays in regulating the temperature and providing light deep within the plan. The cross ventilation will draw stagnant air out bedrooms and lower level living spaces whilst the higher level openings and skylight will provide winter warmth whilst blocking unwanted summer solar gain. This is an important diagram for us at the initial stages of any design because these passive design strategies are inexpensive way and reduce the need for mechanical heating and cooling.

01.01.2022 AB_Mini Session Workshop We like to start any project or discussion with a mini session workshop. It’s a chance to table and discuss all your ideas and aspirations for your home in a non-committal and informal way. We feel its an invaluable part of the process and really helps distil the wants from the needs. This sketch for an extension in Mount Lofty is the outcome of one of these sessions. Get in touch if you would like to sit down and start a conversation about your project!
