25.01.2022 First update from AA tour ...

24.01.2022 As of this moment, 600 architecture and building design firms, sole practitioners and graduates and students are on standby and ready to help when asked. First enquiries are coming in. This is the beginning of a very long run, we ask everyone for patience.

23.01.2022 Architects Donate is the Australian Institute of Architects' campaign to drive financial support from their 12,500 members and their communities and is designed to allow all members and colleagues to play their part. You can donate as little or as much as you wish, with all funds gathered into the Institute’s Foundation, with 100% of these funds used to directly support the rebuild efforts aimed at Australian communities most in need. http://foundation.architecture.com.au/donate/

22.01.2022 A shameless hempcrete pitch. Let #hempcrete increase! :) Hempcrete walls have been fire rated to over 60/60/60 and certified to BAL-40. A 250mm thick hempcrete wall has an insulation R-value of 3.55. It maintains optimum humidity, has excellent acoustic properties, absorbs CO2 over its life and is recyclable. The skills for installation of hempcrete can be easily taught and applied, making it perfect for volunteer labour. It can be retrofitted to existing structures. Industr...ial hemp is climate resilient, outgrowing conventional crops in drought and reaching 4 metres in under 3 months in good conditions. It acts as bio-remediator and is 5x more efficient CO2 sequester than trees. Hemp and hempcrete can reinvigorate Australian farms and sustainable development on an unprecedented scale. 22.01.2022 Early concept renders from David Brown of Butcher Brown Architects to help the client apply for bushfire recovery funding. The site at Henry Street Woodside is well known in the Adelaide Hills with the Woodside Cheese Wrights located in the State Heritage listed former Farmers Union building. The owners are proposing a new structure with multiple tenants focusing on small scale food and beverage production with allied small businesses. BB Architects are currently engaged to ...provide sketch designs and concepts for the new buildings that will incorporate the remnant structures on the site including the old boilers, chimneys and masonry walls that remain. Can't wait to see this project evolve! 19.01.2022 Our departure via Spirit of Tasmania is impending. With recent covid developments, we decided to first travel directly from the ferry terminal to NSW, to avoid wasting time in 14 days quarantine. We will begin our work there. We will then continue to QLD and SA, provided we are allowed entry, and cover Victoria last. This way we will likely have to quarantine only once, when we return to Tasmania. Communities affected by this change have been updated. For latest and current information about our itinerary, and to make suggestions or request stops in your community, please visit http://architectsassist.com.au/tour/

18.01.2022 Architects willing to involve and mentor architecture students and graduates as part of your pro bono projects, please post your project/position offerings here.

10.01.2022 Architects Assist is a starting point for those who lost their homes or community assets in a natural disaster or other adverse circumstances and are in genuine need of pro bono (free) assistance.

06.01.2022 Despite distractions, our focus remains on bushfire recovery and future resilience. This work is considered essential and our efforts continue. One of the main obstacles we keep running into are delays in bushfire debris removal. This is largely an insurer issue and is yet to take place on many sites. The lack of awareness of AA is another problem we're seeing. Even these days, many communities rely on word of mouth. Please share the availability of our services across your n...etworks and encourage others to pass it on. #architectsassist #architecture #australia #bushfires #sustainability #resilience #design

05.01.2022 The worst damaged areas appear to be regrowth forest, where cleared land was allowed to regrow all at once, often without further management and thinning. When eucalyptus trees reach certain size and crowns start interlocking, they stunt. This prevents the establishment of separated levels of canopy. Compared to relatively natural diverse forest, where we often see minimal fire damage, the thin, dense sticks of the regrowth forest look and burn like kindling. 220 homes were l...ost in Kiah (near Eden NSW). Tents and caravans are used as temporary homes in many places. (Of course no photos.) A regrowth forest thinning guide has been uploaded onto our website in the resources section. #regrowthforest #forest #eucalyptus #forestry #forestmanagement #bushfire #sustainability #architecture #Australia #architectsassist #aatour2020

01.01.2022 Snowy mountains. We need to start looking after our forests differently. Blanket logging and plantation may be economical but it's surely not best practice.
