19.01.2022 ..........a few of the wonderful many in our profession...............

19.01.2022 Interesting article reviewing the recent conference on carbon emissions and buildings. In most cities, the building sector is responsible for 50% to 80% of total city emissions, Mazria says, so relatively few big buildings1% to 4% of the total number of buildingsare responsible for 25% to 40% of a city’s total emissions. They’re the architectural and planning equivalent of gas-guzzling cars, the SUVs of the built environment.

18.01.2022 "her works often transcended the boundaries between design, architecture, urban planning, crafts, and fine arts, without neglecting their humanistic and economic aspects."

17.01.2022 evocative "...the focus of the design is not to build a new structure, but to create a scenery lens to present daily views"

11.01.2022 Reconciliation "It is heartening to see the rise of exemplary processes and fruitful collaboration undertaken by prominent developers and architects that have engaged the knowledge and skills of Indigenous makers, designers, artists, workers and businesses. The impetus must continue as we collectively reshape our design future." Carroll Go-Sam

05.01.2022 Wonderful. "The news that Grafton Architects are to receive the 2020 RIBA Royal Gold Medal makes this a very special and happy moment in our lives," said Farrell and McNamara. "Like architects around the world, everyone in Grafton Architects works hard to give each project the attention needed to hopefully enrich people’s lives. For us, architecture is an optimistic profession, with the opportunity to anticipate future realities," they added.... "It is of the highest cultural importance because it is the built enclosure of human lives. It translates people’s needs and dreams into built form, into the silent language of space."

04.01.2022 Congratulations Justine

03.01.2022 Strength in support

02.01.2022 200 Years ago Ruskin's warning echoes loudly today .......... "One aspect of Ruskin that Glover touches upon only very briefly, but that receives much emphasis in the Yale exhibition, is his ecological thought. Ruskin’s lecture series The Storm-Cloud of the Nineteenth Century (1884) proclaimed that the darkening skies over England almost certainly the partial result of industrial pollution showed that human behavior had the capacity to alter for the worse the planet’s very environment. Now deep into an era of human-generated global warming, we can look back to Ruskin as one of the earliest prophets of a malign Anthropocene."

01.01.2022 spatial questions .... the new normal

01.01.2022 "... My objective is to provide for the here and now. I would hope that my buildings give visual pleasure to those who see them and spiritual pleasure to those who dwell in them. Gabriel Poole Left a legacy of an architecture focussed on lightness and sensitivity to site, occupancy and environment. RIP
