25.01.2022 October, Australia’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, provides an opportunity for us all to focus on breast cancer and its impact on those affected by the disease in our community. Breast cancer remains the most common cancer among Australian women (excluding non-melanoma skin cancer). Survival rates continue to improve in Australia with 89 out of every 100 women diagnosed with invasive breast cancer now surviving five or more years beyond diagnosis. Finding breast cancer early... provides the best chance of surviving the disease. Remember you don’t need to be an expert or use a special technique to check your breasts. Please if you find anything that just doesn't feel right make an appointment with your friendly GP and they will assist you with further steps if required. Changes to look for include: * a new lump or lumpiness, especially if it's only in one breast * a change in the size or shape of your breast * a change to the nipple, such as crusting, ulcer, redness or inversion * a nipple discharge that occurs without squeezing * a change in the skin of your breast such as redness or dimpling * an unusual pain that doesn't go away. Most changes aren’t due to breast cancer but it’s important to see your doctor without delay if you notice any of these changes. Take the time this month to find out what you need to know about breast awareness and share this important information with your family, friends and colleagues.

24.01.2022 What can we do to keep stopping the spread of COVID-19? Our Chief Public Health Officer, Professor Nicola Spurrier, explains how important it is to get tested a...nd stay at home if you have any of the following symptoms, even if the symptoms are very mild: - fever - cough - fatigue - sore throat - runny nose - shortness of breath - loss of taste or smell. It’s also VERY important to: - Practice good hand hygiene. - Keep 1.5 metres distance from others wherever and whenever possible.

22.01.2022 From today, masks will no longer be mandatory for: people present in health care settings (this includes staff and visitors at residential aged care facilitie...s) people working in personal care services (hairdressers, beauty salons, tattoo parlours and similar businesses). Face masks are an additional physical barrier and help to stop the spread of COVID-19. At this time in South Australia it is not mandatory for the general community, but it is recommended to wear a mask when out in public if you are unable to physically distance from others. 22.01.2022 With spring comes pollen and seasonal hay fever, which can cause some symptoms similar to COVID-19 symptoms. While they may share some symptoms, there are key ...differences: Hay fever does not usually cause shortness of breath unless a person has a respiratory condition, such as asthma that can be triggered by exposure to pollen. Hay fever causes watery and itchy eyes, as well as sneezing, which are not symptoms of COVID-19. Hay fever symptoms can change depending on the time of day due to pollen levels. COVID-19 can cause fever or chills, which is not a common symptom of hay fever. Symptoms of hay fever and COVID-19 can vary from person to person and range from mild to severe. If you know you routinely experience hay fever, talk to your GP about starting preventive medication early in the season, before symptoms occur. This will help to prevent or decrease your symptoms. Talk you to your GP if you are unsure if your symptoms are related to hay fever or if your symptoms differ from previous experiences.

21.01.2022 Join Australia’s biggest celebration of commuter riding at National Ride2Work Day on Wednesday 21 October 2020. With many of us working from home in 2020 (and some of us still plugging away in the home office), it is fair to say we’ve really missed our two wheeled daily commute. Which gives us even more reason to hop on the bike this National Ride2Work Day. Step 1 Find your ride... You don’t need to have the latest and greatest bike. You will be surprised about what you can find in a family or friend’s shed or garage. If that’s no good, you can also try secondhand or chat to your local bike shop about an easy ride. Step 2 Plan your ride If you’re riding to work for the first time, you might like to find somewhere off the road like a bike path or shared trail. You can find these by searching the bike icon in Google Maps. Check out our guide on how to plan a bike route for more. But don’t get immersed in the mapsget out there and find your way. It’s a good way to find new places to ride and build confidence. Another hot tip is to chat to friends or work colleagues that live in a similar area. Maybe you could ride together? Whether it is for the commute to work, a trip to the shops or to visit a mate bike riding is a great way to get from A to B. Don’t forget to swap the car for the bike on Wednesday 21 October and ride your bike to wherever! Step 3 Enjoy your ride Get pedalling and have fun. It’s that simple. As the nice weather rolls in there is no better time to enjoy actively commuting to work. Take time to enjoy the simple moments the wind in your hair, a crisp clear morning, the feeling of freedom, the green flow of traffic lights. Not only will you save time and money, you’ll be happier and healthier for it.

20.01.2022 Please don't forget that due to SA Health requirements you will require a single-use disposable mask when entering, during your time at our clinic and until you leave our clinic to keep yourself, our staff and our community safe. 12.01.2022 Tuesday 29th September 2020 is WORLD HEART DAY <3 <3 <3 We are living in unprecedented times. The COVID-19 pandemic has shone a spotlight on the healthcare profession, national healthcare systems and our individual responsibilities for our own health and for the vulnerable in society. We don’t know what course the pandemic will take in the future but we do know that taking care of our hearts right now is more important than ever.... So this year on 29 September, our campaign is asking the world to: Use <3 to beat Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the number one cause of death on the planet. It has many causes: from smoking, diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity, to air pollution, and rare and neglected conditions such as Chagas Disease and cardiac amyloidosis. In the time of COVID-19, CVD patients are faced with a double-edged threat. Not only are they more at risk of developing severe forms of the virus, but they may also be afraid to seek ongoing care for their hearts. Use Heart is about using *Your Head* To understand what it takes to live a heart healthy life and to act on that knowledge, changing your behaviour for a better quality of life now and in the future. *Your Influence* As an individual to set an example for your loved ones. As a healthcare professional to help your patients make positive changes for their heart health. As an employer to invest in the heart health of your employees. As a government to implement policies and initiatives that will lead to better societal heart health, such as sugar taxes, smoking bans and reducing air pollution. *Your Compassion* To look beyond the self and act in ways that support the most vulnerable in society; those with underlying heart-related conditions that may put them at greater risk in the time of COVID-19. https://www.world-heart-federation.org//world-heart-day-2/ #UseHeart #WorldHeartDay

04.01.2022 September 10th 2020 is "R U OK" day It’s important to make time to ask your friends, family and work colleagues are you OK? By giving someone your time and the opportunity to share what they’re feeling, you’re giving that person something invaluable.... A conversation can help someone who is struggling feel a sense of connection and belonging. By encouraging them to access appropriate support before they’re in crisis your conversation could change their life. It’s important you look out for changes and signs, no matter how small that could indicate someone needs extra support and if you spot the signs you need to ask R U OK? We spend a lot of time with family, friends and workmates, which means we’re well-placed to notice the small changes that might suggest someone isn’t coping or needs a bit of extra support. You can look for changes in what they’re saying or doing or things that are happening in their life because that might indicate they are feeling under pressure or stressed. Look for signs in what they’re saying. Look for signs in what they’re doing. Think about what’s going on in their life. When you notice a change, no matter how small, it’s time to ask R U OK?
