08.01.2022 A frequently answered question about Fabric Roofs and Structures ... Why would I buy one, when sometimes I could buy a good steel structure for less? Very Good Question! >>>>Mainly their portability ... a fixed structure is fixed, and you hope the next tenants will buy it ... but a portable structure can be sold and shipped to anywhere. >>>>The next reason is for those of us who live in the sun ...... A metal roof can heat up to 65 degrees plus on a 25 degree day, so what happens when we are in the tropics or sun bathed countries ... where a day can reach up to 50 degrees + ? A friend of mine some years ago ran a very successful Children's Indoor Play Ground - you know, the kind with tunnels and bouncy things that kids love. The business outgrew her lovely air conditioned shopping centre premises, so she moved it to a massive warehouse, which was constructed out of steel. In Far Northern Australia it is pretty much always summer, and this warehouse, which had an approximate 12 meter high roof , heated up like a chicken cooker before 10 am in the morning... only a humungous investment in insulation and air conditioning would be able to cool this massive space sufficiently and a couple of hundred thousand dollars was not viable to spend on this business ... so parents stopped bringing their children to the tortuous environment, and the business was dead in just a few months. So that's why you will see a fabric roof on many sports pavilions, entertainment complexes and more and more on regular warehouses and work spaces. Metal is a conductor of heat whereas fabric is not ... the rest is rather elementary ...
