23.01.2022 Book review: ‘Beautiful one day, broke the next’ by Gene Tunny. For anyone concerned about Queensland’s current fiscal position, Tunny’s read on the history of the state’s finances since the days of Sir Joh provides a fair and accurate account of how the Queensland Government have handled state finances over the past four decades. For what might seem like a very dry subject to some, Tunny’s writing style is simple and engaging for a wide audience (not just economic geeks).... For someone old enough to have lived through the state’s changing finances, it was a very eye-opening read.

21.01.2022 For something not related to investing and finance: this beautiful watercolour piece by artist Jan Carlson. Jan’s work is known for its intense colours and fluid watercolour technique. I first met Jan when I was living in Gympie. This piece currently hangs on my office wall and reminds me of the outback and the sweeping remote plains across the country. Do you have any special artwork that brings you a sense of comfort?

19.01.2022 Thank you Lifeline for a wonderful fundraiser supporting suicide prevention and crisis support. I was fortunate to have walked away with this beautiful piece created by artist Sharon Numina, who is from the Utopia (Urapuntja) homeland, 350km northeast of Alice Springs. Titled ‘Emu Dreaming’, the piece tells the story of the emu looking for water in the creek beds and rock holes (the circles) as it journeys across the desert sand hills.
