13.01.2022 Another heat wave is here! It's not yet officially summer but this year, as it was last year, the Red Cross has already been asked to activate its Telecross REDi heat wave response service. With high temperatures comes increased risks for everyone, particularly our community's most vulnerable. The Telecross REDi service assists vulnerable and isolated people cope with extreme weather events through a daily phone call. ... People at risk, such as people who live alone, have a disability, are experiencing mental illness, are housebound, frail, aged, recovering from an illness or accident, are encouraged to register, or have someone register them for the service. Registrations can be made calling 1800 188 071 or by emailing [email protected].

11.01.2022 As well as the SA COVID-19 Information Line (1800 253 787), a COVID-19 Relief Call Centre is operating to help people affected by COVID-19. The Relief Call Centre can provide information and assistance to help you through the current government restrictions, including access to personal hardship support and advice on short-term accommodation if you cannot safely self-quarantine or self-isolate. The Relief Call Centre can also provide general support and referrals to other ...services as needed. Trained Red Cross volunteers are available through the Relief Call Centre to support all South Australians adversely affected by COVID-19 and the current restrictions. The impact of the program on psychologica...l wellbeing has been overwhelmingly positive and these numbers tell the story! Over 28,000 phone calls made and over 800 people regularly supported Over 6800 volunteer hours have made this possible. Thank you to our wonderful Red Cross volunteers! The Port Pirie Red Cross team receive donations of womens sanitary items, personal hygiene items and other toiletry items on a regular basis which means our wonderful volunteers and trainees can put together these Red Care Packs. These packs are passed on throughout the community, with the most recent donation going out to support women in emergency accommodation within the Port Pirie area. ...
