25.01.2022 Introducing this weeks alumni - MADISON WHITELEY Which school/company are you with and what is your training/career history? I trained at ARDA for 12 years before being accepted into English National Ballet Schools 2nd year. I studied at ENB for two years before accepting a contract with Semperoper Ballet Dresden. I am now in my third season with the company.... At what age did you realize you wanted to dance professionally? To be honest, I never really had a lightbulb moment when I suddenly realised I wanted to dance professionally. I was thirteen when I left traditional education at Moreton Bay College and commenced full time ballet but I always knew I wanted to be a professional ballet dancer. I would be kidding myself if I said I had any other dream. Did you ever think or were told that you wouldnt make it professionally? And if so, how did you overcome that? Oh yes of course! I actually didnt believe it until I had the contract in my hand! Unfortunately, as a young dancer I had some pretty nasty injuries in my knees and ankles due to my natural hyper-mobility and flexibility. When I was 14, I had an orthopaedic surgeon tell me that my body was just not made to dance... where theres a will, theres a way. Someones negative opinion/doubt should just drive you to want to prove them wrong. How many years did you train at ARDA? 11 years. 4 of fulltime training. Best memory/memories from your time at ARDA? There are too many to choose from! I would have to say the ARDA concert was always a highlight, especially the Sizzler afterparty! Any words of advice or encouragement for the young dancers of today? Dont just work hard, but also work smart and always for yourself. At this moment in your training/career, you have teachers pushing you and giving you the tools that you need, but its totally up to you to take everything and run with it. Apply every correction, even if it isnt given to you personally and take every opportunity to learn from the others around you. Do anything and everything you can to strengthen yourself physically and mentally. Half of the work is purely mental. Thank you Madi! Up next is @claudie_pereira stay tuned

22.01.2022 This weeks alumni is.... MADISON AYTON Where do you work and what is your training/career history? I am currently working with Moulin Rouge in Paris, prior to this was I working in the Dutch National Ballet, as a junior company member for 2 years. And before this I was in the full-time program at ARDA for 2.5 years. ... What age did you begin dancing? Why? I started dancing at the age of 3. My mother said it was because I loved moving to music. At what age did you realize you wanted to dance professionally? I was about 10 years of age when I decided I wanted to dance full time and pursue a career in Classical Ballet. Did you ever think or were told that you wouldnt make it professionally? And if so, how did you overcome that? I was never told i wouldnt make it I had supportive teachers that pushed me and told me its going to be hard to make it which encouraged me to work hard to reach my goals! How many years did you train at ARDA? I trained at ARDA for 2.5 years! During my last few years of school! Best memory/memories from your time at ARDA? I believe the best memories I have at ARDA are the friendships I have made. The friendships I gained through dancing and training at ARDA I will hold dear to my heart forever! Any words of advice or encouragement for the young dancers of today? My advice would be to ensure you work on versatility in all dance genres, as you never know when you might need to call on those skills. Dont put all your eggs in one basket you never know what might happen! Thank you @madiayton We look forward to hearing from @issey_olivier next week @ Annette Roselli Dance Academy

22.01.2022 This weeks alumni is AMELIA TOWNSEND Which company are you with and what is your training history? I am currently a member of the corps de ballet with the Royal Ballet. I began my training at the Annette Roselli Dance Academy for 10 years and then moved to Melbourne to continue my studies at the Australian Ballet School for 3 1/2 years. ... What age did you begin dancing and why? I started dancing at the age of 3 because I think my mum had enough of trying to stop me from climbing on stage and joining in my sisters classes when I went to watch her. I just wanted to be like my big sister Alicia, and dance with her. Did you ever think or were told that you wouldnt make it professionally? And if so, how did you overcome that? Definitely, thats one of the biggest challenges that comes with being in this industry. I had many moments throughout my training where I didnt think I had what it takes and felt like I wasnt good enough. The important thing about feeling that way is how you overcome and push through that feeling. Ive always been tough on myself and still am, so I tell myself that as long as Im working hard, that is the most important thing because youre never going to be perfect. And yes, Ive had many people push me down who havent believed in me. Youre never going to make everyone happy so you just have to believe in yourself! Best memory/memories from your time at ARDA? I have so many amazing memories but my favourite would probably be the end of year concerts. I always had so much fun performing with my friends and the mischief we would get up to around the theatre! Any words of advice for the young dancers of today? If I could give any advice it would be to stop comparing yourself to others. We tend to get caught up looking at what other dancers have over us, whether that be better feet, more flexibility, turnout etc. While its good to get inspiration from other dancers, dont let that distract you from your own path. Improvement comes from working hard, not from comparing yourself. Stay passionate and focused on yourself! Thank you Amelia Townsend! Our next dancer to hear from is Zoe Brady

21.01.2022 And this weeks alumni is - ZOE BRADY Which school are you with? English National Ballet School. ... What age did you begin dancing? I began dancing at age 9. Why? My friend invited me to join a class. At what age did you realize you wanted to dance professionally? I realised I wanted to pursue a career in ballet at age 14. How many years did you train at ARDA? I trained at ARDA for 2 1/2 years. Best memory/memories from your time at ARDA? * Ms Janes initiation (walks down the room to Lady Marmalade) * Performing my favourite Demi character solo Juliet * Ms Karens Christmas class with music from Michael Buble Christmas album Any words of advice or encouragement for the young dancers of today? Work hard. Work intelligently. And embrace what makes you different because thats what makes you special. 15.01.2022 Introducing this weeks alumni MATTHEW MAXWELL What is your training history? I am currently studying with the Australian Ballet School in Level 8 the final year of training. I previously spent 6 months overseas in London with the English National Ballet School and prior to that I trained at ARDA for five years. Firstly in the part-time program and then in the full-time Elite Training Program.... What age did you begin dancing? Why? I started ballet when I was four years old. I always loved dancing around the house and had been asking to go to classes since I was two, but Mum said I was too young and she wanted me to be old enough to learn the correct technique. So when I was four she found a good RAD teacher and I started Pre-Primary classes. At what age did you realize you wanted to dance professionally? I always loved dancing and wanted to do that more than anything else. I was probably about 11 when I thought I would like to make it my career. Did you ever think or were told that you wouldnt make it professionally? And if so, how did you overcome that? I have always received a great deal of nurturing and support from my teachers, who have all actively encouraged me to pursue this career path. Of course, you always have doubts as to whether you can make it because it is so competitive and there are many obstacles and disappointments which get in the way. You need to be strong and believe in yourself. Best memory/memories from your time at ARDA? I will always remember the wonderful teachers at ARDA. I would not be where I am today without their excellent teaching, support and advice. Any words of advice or encouragement for the young dancers of today? It is a challenging career path to embark upon, so as a young dancer you have to really love the art form and be passionate about pursuing it as a career. It is this love and passion that can sustain you when you have to cope with disappointments along the way. Thank you @matthew__maxwell_ Our next alumni is @madiayton @ Annette Roselli Dance Academy

09.01.2022 Introducing this weeks alumni - CLAUDIA PEREIRA Which school/company are you with and what is your training/career history? After sitting Advanced 2 and graduating school in 2015 I ended up going down a different road to most of the ARDA alumni. I got accepted to study a Bachelor of Musical Theatre at the Queensland Conversatorium of Music. After 3 years of study I graduated and 6 months later booked my first contract on Celebrity Cruiseline as a Singer-Dancer. ... What age did you begin dancing? As the niece of Annette Roselli and being born into a dancing family I naturally started ballet when I was 3 years old. Why? At age 3 I didnt really know why I wanted to dance but I loved to move and my Mums side of the family were very involved in dancing, especially ballet so its kinda in my blood. At what age did you realize you wanted to dance professionally? At roughly age 12 I realised I loved dancing, singing and acting, and couldnt think of doing anything else I wanted to pursue after school. I was heavily involved in all the musicals, plays, choirs and dance troupes at Moreton Bay College as well as studying Drama and Dance. Did you ever think or were told that you wouldnt make it professionally? Ive had really supportive and encouraging dance teachers in my training but I realised around 14 years old I didnt have the right physique/lines for a ballet career plus my love and passion lay with Musical Theatre. How many years did you train at ARDA? I trained for about 14 years at ARDA. Best memory/memories from your time at ARDA? The biannual concert was definitely my FAVOURITE memory at ARDA. I loved performing and sharing the stage with my talented friends and family. Any words of advice or encouragement for the young dancers of today? Keep working hard and see where it leads you. Also, a ballet career isnt the end all and be all, there are so many paths you can take in the dancing and performing world. Thank you Claudia! Next week we will hear from @imlucychristodoulou ! @ Annette Roselli Dance Academy

07.01.2022 A FABULOUS OPPORTUNITY!

05.01.2022 Introducing this weeks alumni - ISABELLE OLIVIER Which school/company are you with and what is your training/career history? I moved from Perth to start full time training at ARDA which I did for 2 years before I got accepted into The Royal Ballet School Antwerps 5th year. I studied there for 2 years and after graduating I went into the schools pre-professional year to work with Ballet Vlaanderen for over 6 months. After being overseas for 3 years I accepted a position in ...the Pre professional program at Melbourne City Ballet. I performed and toured with the company for 6 months and after the shock closure I then accepted a position as a company artist at Brisbane Ballet. I have been with the company for almost a year now. At what age did you realise you wanted to dance professionally? I think I always knew I wanted to dance professionally or give it a try but I had to decide whether I wanted to continue dancing full time in Perth or mover interstate so I decided to move to Brisbane to join ARDAs full time program. Did you ever think or were told that you wouldnt make it professionally? And if so, how did you overcome that? Yes! I think every dancer has that doubt in the back of their mind. I knew I had limitations with my body and had been told by several teachers and physios about them. But if you have a passion a love and a drive to really pursue something you can make it happen. It was my love for dancing and that feeling you get onstage and the inspiration of my teachers that made me keep striving to dance professionally. Any words of advice or encouragement for the young dancers of today? Never give up. I know it sounds cliche but remember why you started. Even if you have doubts and knock backs they will make you stronger and prepare you for life and to dance professionally if that is what you aspire to. I always admired the amazing faculty at ARDA as they prepared me for struggles and successes of dancing professionally. All the hard work is so worth it in the end, like being able to perform and tour with companies and working towards new and exciting opportunities. Thank you @issey_olivier Next week we will hear from @alicia_townsend @ Annette Roselli Dance Academy

05.01.2022 BOOKINGS ARE OPEN!

04.01.2022 AN AMAZING DAY on Sunday - showcasing our beautiful dancers and allowing our parents to view their progress and hard work (in a Covid-safe way of course!). So proud of each and every one of our lovely dancers! Thank you so very much to our amazing team of dedicated teachers. You have each contributed so much to the training of our students. Thank you to Janine for going above and beyond to ensure our day was safe and a success. Forever thankful to all our wonderful volunteers. What an amazing team effort at ARDA!

04.01.2022 Congratulations to all the ARDA students chosen to perform at the Lord Mayor’s Christmas Carols. Enjoy every minute xxx

04.01.2022 Introducing this weeks alumni @imlucychristodoulou Which company are you with and what is your training history? I am dancing as a company artist with Queensland Ballet, and trained at ARDA for over 10 years, also spending a year with the Australian ballet school.... What age did you begin dancing and why? I began dancing at age 4, because my cousins were ballerinas and I wanted to be like them. And they thought I was flexible! At what age did you realize you wanted to dance professionally? I started getting more serious about my ballet when I was around 11, and decided I wanted to go full time to accelerate my training at age 14. I knew what I wanted and dreamt of being a professional! Did you ever think or were told that you wouldnt make it professionally? And if so, how did you overcome that? Oh my gosh yes. Everyone has self doubt, its normal. And in such a competitive industry it is beyond natural to feel like you may not make it! Along with that, everyone has an opinion and not everyone will like you! For some people you have the wrong body, or something else they dont like about you, but dont let that discourage you. Its a matter of opinion and perfect doesnt exist. Youve got to be your own person and root for yourself! Its all about resilience! Best memory/memories from your time at ARDA? My time at ARDA was my childhood and most of my teen years. I wouldnt be who I am today without it! Other then a classic Miss Jane warm up, favourite memories could possibly be getting up to silly stuff at full time in the lunch break.... We have all seen those Facebook videos Any words of advice for the young dancers of today? For the young dancers of today my advice is follow your passion! Ask yourself why? Why do you dance? Never let that stop motivating and inspiring you everyday. It takes hard work, discipline and commitment but its so worth it when you get there, and that is all part of the journey. The hard work makes it so rewarding in the end. Be yourself. Be kind to yourself and go for it! Stay true to you! Thank you Lucy! We look forward to hearing from @ameliatownsend_ next week! @ Annette Roselli Dance Academy

04.01.2022 More wonderful results from the Sunshine Coast Eisteddfod! Well done Chelsea xx 14 Years Classical - 1st Chelsea Mendham... Demi-Character - 2nd Chelsea Mendham Lyrical - HC Chelsea Mendham Contemporary - Enc Award Chelsea Mendham See more

01.01.2022 This week we are introducing our final alumni, ALICIA TOWNSEND Which company are you with and what is your training/career history? I trained at ARDA for 12 years (3 years in the full-time program) before finishing my last 2 years of training with the Queensland Ballet Academy. After then completing 2 years in QBs Pre-Professional Program, I joined the National Moravian Silesian Theatre in the Czech Republic. I then joined Ballet Ireland for their season of Swan Lake befo...re receiving a contract with English National Ballet for their production of Swan Lake. Unfortunately this contract was terminated due to COVID-19 however I am looking forward to joining the Greek National Ballet Company in January 2021. At what age did you realise you wanted to dance professionally? Ive always wanted to dance professionally and have never had a light bulb moment where I realized I wanted to be a professional dancer. However deciding to dance full-time and do home-schooling was a big step in chasing my dreams to dance professionally. Did you ever think you wouldnt make it professionally and if so, how did you overcome that? I definitely had my own self doubts and still struggle with this at times but so much of this profession is about mentality, not just talent or natural ability. So when I get these negative thoughts, I try my best to push them aside and believe that with hard work and perseverance, anything is possible. Best memory from your time at ARDA? There are SO many however I think the most special memories are the friendships I have created with my friends and teachers Any words of advice for the young dancers of today? We dont all have the perfect bodies, feet, turnout etc, and thats ok. Its your worth ethic, determination and resilience that means the most. You will face hard times and rejection but I believe you learn more from failure than from success. I think its those with the most resilience and strength of character, that are able to keep pushing and make it professionally. Thank you @alicia_townsend! We hope you have all enjoyed hearing from some of our alumnis and we hope to do another alumni segment in the future @ Annette Roselli Dance Academy

01.01.2022 Excited for our ARDA students who will appear in this production. Congratulations to: Allyssa Cleary Zara Trass Lillian Oxenford ... Celeste Hall. Well done girls xxxx See more
