Her work on shame, vulnerability and courage sits very close to our hearts at Arena. ... #brisbane #queensland #phsychology #psychologist #quotes #mentalhealth #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthawareness #ndissupport #ndis #plants #plantsmakepeoplehappy #happymonday See more

08.01.2022 For most adults, at least seven hours of sleep each night is needed for proper cognitive and behavioural functions. An insufficient amount of sleep can lead to serious repercussions. Some studies have shown sleep deprivation leaves people vulnerable to attention lapses, reduced cognition, delayed reactions, and mood shifts. It’s also been suggested that people can develop a sort of tolerance to chronic sleep deprivation. Even though their brains and bodies struggle due to lac...k of sleep, they may not be aware of their own deficiencies because less sleep feels normal to them. Additionally, lack of sleep has been linked to a higher risk for certain diseases and medical conditions and poor mental health. Adults who do not receive a sufficient amount of sleep each night can implement some positive lifestyle and sleep habits in order to log the needed seven to nine hours. These include the following: Establish a realistic bedtime and stick to it every night, even on the weekends. Maintain comfortable temperature settings and low light levels in your bedroom. Make sure you have a comfortable sleep environment including your mattress, pillows, and sheets. Consider a screen ban on televisions, computers and tablets, cell phones, and other electronic devices in your bedroom. Abstain from caffeine, alcohol, and large meals in the hours leading up to bedtime. Exercise during the day; this can help you wind down in the evening and prepare for sleep. 04.01.2022 Nature heals Being in nature, or even viewing scenes of nature, reduces anger, fear, and stress and increases pleasant feelings. Exposure to nature not only makes you feel better emotionally, it contributes to your physical wellbeing, reducing blood pressure, heart rate, muscle tension, and the production of stress hormones. One of the most intriguing areas of current research is the impact of nature on general wellbeing. In one study in Mind, 95% of those interviewed sa...id their mood improved after spending time outside, changing from depressed, stressed, and anxious to more calm and balanced. Other studies by Ulrich, Kim, and Cervinka show that time in nature or scenes of nature are associated with a positive mood, and psychological wellbeing, meaningfulness, and vitality. Furthermore, time in nature or viewing nature scenes increases our ability to pay attention. Because humans find nature inherently interesting, we can naturally focus on what we are experiencing out in nature. This also provides a respite for our overactive minds, refreshing us for new tasks.
