The social structure is patriarchal and polygamous, Women and children are responsible for grazing and watering animals, fetching water for domestic use, constructing ‘manyattas’ (traditional shelters) and for gathering wood for cooking. In Loita Division, only 30% of the children go to school at all, of those, only 10% go to high school due to lack of school fees since Kenya high school education is not free at all, and girls are less likely to go to school than boys. Poverty in this district can be described as a situation of deprivation, which not only includes lack of income and wealth but also social inferiority, physical weakness, disability, sickness, vulnerability, physical and social isolation, powerlessness and humiliation. There are increasing number of young single women mothers aged between 16 and 30 years old. These young women lack any community supportive mechanisms to provide basic needs to their families due to stigma, discrimination and rejection associated with giving birth out of wedlock. Due to societal pressure, the young women are forced into marriages to old men. We currently supporting 415 girls from 10 schools, each girl get 1 kit that includes 8 liners and 2 shield, and a kit goes for 350 ksh. And we give each girl a kit that help for 2 months depending on the flow of menstrual periods, yes, some girls have a challenge that I have noticed and I as well understand them, my target is that at least we reach 4 extra schools for this time which includes 121 girls, so I aim of reaching that number, so the approximate cost for the 121 girls is equivalent to 121 girls multiply by ksh 350for each girl, add up a total of kshs 42,350. In term of USD 450, We usually use PayPal [email protected] as the easy way of collecting funds to buy them sanitary towels and get donations to their school fees and food for poor families.
