23.01.2022 Last night was so much fun! I got to speak with the Ridewest crew in Oakey & tell them a bit about Are You Bogged Mate? Oakey is the first leg of their ride from Brisbane to Longreach (on push bikes!) I did check that they all know where Longreach is What an epic ride! 21.01.2022 You have all heard the saying 'there is more than one way to skin a cat'. This is very true for most problems in life and with that in mind, I am constantly looking for a variety of different approaches to get blokes out of a bog hole. I always encourage people to keep an open mind when looking for ways to address their mental/emotional health and what underlying factors may be causing it. Maybe you need a holiday?... Maybe you need time with your mates? Maybe you need to see your GP? Maybe you need a prescription? Maybe you need to talk to a psychologist? Maybe you need to exercise? Maybe you need to eat better? Maybe you need to change your perspective? This program has piqued my interest especially after hearing from some country blokes who have found it really helpful. So I am going along to see what it is all about. Maybe you should too? #areyouboggedmate

15.01.2022 Early start yesterday morning to get to Longreach to speak at the Outback Mind Warriors walk to raise awareness about mental health. Huge roll up! The locals brightened up tree for Blue Tree Project Great to see a bit of rain about but a few people managed to actually get bogged while I was there Lucky plenty of people wanted to give a hand to get them out. 12.01.2022 Well I found my way to Lochington Rec Club! But found so much more there. I found.... a school... a warm welcome a huge crowd heaps of laughter boundless pride rich history crappy drought some sadness unfailing care for their mates a bar trap a 'grid bridge' fire pit envy obligatory yard for the kids so much joy incredible mateship an Aussie outback community! I was so privileged to be a part of it all for a day. As the bar stool clearly shows, this place is a trap, it trapped my heart. Thank goodness they didn't make me run! 09.01.2022 So this happened this week.... I became a semi-finalist in the Australia Pacific LNG Community Hero Award category which is part of the 2020 Queensland Community Achievement Awards. Not sure who the sneaky bugger is that dobbed me in for this but thank you for your support. It is great that people are recognising the importance of rural men's mental health and that country blokes should not be forgotten or left behind. Men do matter! ... Congratulations to all of the nominees & semi finalists, there is so much great work being done by so many. #areyouboggedmate

07.01.2022 Yesterday I spent the morning at Queensland Police Service Crime & Intelligence Command in Brisbane. Don't panic, I was invited, not arrested! What a privilege to be able to share the #areyouboggedmate message with members of our amazing police force. Fantastic to have the Acting Assistant Commissioner, the Acting Chief Superintendent for Intelligence in Crime & Intelligence Command, Qld Police Union Vice President, & the HSO present. ... Special thanks to Detective Inspector Miller for inviting me & organising the event. Police have all the same sort of pressures that we all have - family, health, money, etc. And then they have a very demanding & often traumatic job on top of that. Police officers are human & they get bogged too. They are always there for us so let's be there for them. Courtesy costs you nothing & friendliness is free. So next time you get to interact with a member of the police force, remember they are human. They don't make the rules but your attitude influences how they need to enforce them. It's pretty simple really, just don't be a dickhead. Bit of history - I took with me a 'thank you' letter that my father received from the Police Commissioner in 1963 (it is affectionately known in my family as 'dad's get out of jail free card'). Dad helped track a criminal through the bush to assist police with arresting him. In the halls of Police HQ, I was able to put a face to the Commissioner's name on letter.
