04.01.2022 Warranty Insurance regime assessment? My client is a small builder with jobs ranging from $150k to $1.5m however this insurance applies to other industries such as landscapers. The underwriter role is now controlled by the government but a Broker is used to communicate with the applicant. You cant speak directly to the Underwriter only the Broker the middle person, who then passes the information through to the Underwriter.... In assessing each application the underwriter has a very strict formula which gives them a YES or No answer. There is no flexibility at all. So details such as length of time in business, previous claims history or the amount of coverage you are applying for (within reason) are not taken into consideration. The formula is simple and based on 30 days Working Capital coverage of annual Overhead expenses reported from the Financial Statements provided by the applicant. Working Capital is the Total Current Assets less Current Liabilities.
