19.01.2022 Mummy Sparkles wearing her sparkles! ... meet my mum, shes called Lesley! This years been one of the hardest of our lives, for pretty much everyone I know... and something thats added into the toughness for me and my family is the sheer distance. My mum and dad live in the south of France, an idillic location, and until this year have been very happily retired- bumbling along selling home made jams at markets and tending to their orchard while drinking wine by the river. Se...riously, its an amazing place. Alas, this year served cancer to my family, and navigating that through a pandemic in a country thats not your first language has been hard as hell. Im in awe of my mum and dads strength though (and for anyone now interested, my dad has just finished treatment and we have everything crossed for his scans in a few weeks time to show that the radio and chemo have worked how we hope). Covid means I have no idea when I can go home, when I can cuddle these two heros next and thats just hard. Its hard in a way I know everyone else understands, as you too have your own struggles, be they different they are all valid. So, I started making sparkles masks and my mum (and her friends) all popped orders in, as they wanted to add some colour to their days too. They arrived yesterday, and my mum sent me some adorable pics through right away! Thanks mama! When I make garments, Ive said it to many of you before... if Im in a good place in my heart and energy the items you recive are 1000% better than if Im not. I also often find myself daydreaming of the adventures you will have in garments, how they will be worn, when and to where. Will they be used time and time again or are they for that special occasion? I genuinely can feel my excitement and positive intentions being sewing into garments soul clothing. Sitting there making a mask that will protect my mum (who is highly immune compromised) from covid was a really emotional rollercoaster- this mask will help to protect my mum and other peoples lives... when I have said to you that I take my mask making seriously, this is what I mean When I first started sparkles I remember saying to my mum please stop commenting as proud mum on all my posts ... but you know what, heres my mum, please give her a virtual hug/ high five/ shake of hand... as shes incredibly strong and if it wasnt for her and the opertunitys she worked so hard to help create for me, I wouldnt be here making sparkles for all of you now ~ sorry for the overshare today, feeling pretty emotional by the distance x

18.01.2022 Masks and masks and masks... @hellydee_designs masks are almost all complete! Shes doing the hand finishing of eyelets and toggles etc to the last ones and is about to have everyones on their way to them! This has been a huge endeavour for her. Having worked with her dad for years in his automotive business, she took to making masks during Melbournes round 1 lock down back in March/April... littler did she know it was going to become what it did. Its with huge thanks and appreciation that these masks are being finished and dispatched xx

13.01.2022 The Kensington in rose gold stripes... this mask is designed to be a fuller fit than the Brunswick. It has more space and drops down below the chin, so its great for if you love a good non restricted chatter, have facial hair or just generally want something a bit looser. Theres a new design that will launch soon- the Thornbury, and when it does it will be a snugger fit while still being able to have a filter pocket inside . 08.01.2022 At the same time that the world is evolving around us, so too am I. Theres exciting things bubbling away in my heart for the first time in a long time... with it comes the future when Im ready to share how that looks, I will... but for now Im loving looking over some highlights of the last 4 years of sparkles. In March/April/May of this year I really feared that it was the end... but Ive learnt my skills are within me, and thats something I can take anywhere with me. 06.01.2022 TLDR- all bodies are amazing and dont let Covid winter weight upset you x Theres a warmth in the air and with it bring optimism and hope towards the summer ahead. With it also comes the consideration of peeling off those winter layers and discovering what we have to work with- potentially our winter bodies? Those bodies that have carried us through one of the worst winters of our lives. Covid has been hard, and to get through it a lot of us havent been able to exercise as ...much as we wanted to, and its also been all too easy to comfort eat. I know I personally put on a considerable amount of weight during this winter compared to most. But Im here to tell you, thats ok. Its perfectly normal and natural and please please dont be hard on yourself. If you pull out last years bathers and they are snug, that is also ok. For the size label inside a garment doesnt define you... what does is that you got through this winter, however that looks, and your here with us to march into this spring . Covid has made me realllllyyyyy dig deep within. Its made me ask questions, and challenge myself and my beliefs in ways I never thought I would, for I too am human, and I too have gone through this wild wonky winter just like you have too . The wheels are in motion though for Me to be reunited with my patterns and some of my fabrics. I can already feel my creative itch dying to come out to play! Im loving working on the masks, and take that responsibility seriously... though Im starting to think about clothing and shapes and bodies and how we feel in them. Peeling off those layer and helping others to enjoy and even love what is underneath. Im feeling inspired and excited. . For now if you need anything swimwear related you can shop my sparkles on the website- they are not so good for in saltwater or chlorine though. For those conditions I usually offer my swimwear thats made from recycled plastics- through my brand @thelionessandherunicorns - but I took the site down during winter due to costs associated and money etc (small businesses, you know this years hit us hard)... so currently my swimwear is not online. 01.01.2022 This weeks been wild... be it the energy of the moon and stars, lockdown making people loco, personal things bubbling to the surface, taking too much on and not having enough spoons to deal with it all... or all the stresses of the year building up... the list goes on as to WHY you may not be feeling ok at the moment- and every single reason is justified. I just wanna take a moment to say I hope your ok, we will all get through this, and Im in awe of the resilience everyone... is showing, especially Melbourne. Please remember there is support there for you which includes extended mental health care plans through Medicare and that as hard as setting up the sessions can be, the process of talking really does help.
