23.01.2022 Arid Land Communications has always supported the Work Experience program...and, as proof that it works, today we signed Tim Rodrigues as a School Based Apprentice. Tim did 2 x 1 week placements with us and experienced a wealth of different communications situations. We were approached by CEG with the idea of a School Based Apprenticeship - which we've done before - and we took the opportunity to welcome Tim who is a very keen and likeable 15 year old. He will work paid as an... Apprentice Telecommunications Technician Certificate III, one day per week, and throughout school holidays and whenever we need him on larger projects. This all counts to Tim's SACE score and to the apprenticeship. We are encouraging him to complete Year 12 so, we won't see him full-time for another 2 years...I wish this sort of thing had been available when I was in school! We encourage all parents of teenagers to consider this program. We will still take Work Experience Students when we can though of course, with 3 Apprentices cooking at present, we are pretty well booked up for the foreseeable future. Apprentices are our future and, with all of the very positive stuff that is happening in our area, we see a bright future for Port Augusta. See more

19.01.2022 Jonno has left our employ and we wish him well...it's long been his dream to work for the UN - I think I have this right - whenever there is an international disaster, the UN supplies support for the NGOs that do the grunt work on the ground - accommodation, security and communications - Jonno is chasing his dream and we wish him well. Jonno started as an Apprentice with ALC and managed a bit over 8 years - thanks Jonno!

16.01.2022 Arid Land Communications has served Port Augusta and the wider community for nearly 22 years. We punch well above our weight with just 9 full time staff, covering about 85% of SA geographically...from about Kadina north for the entire state and all of Eyre Peninsula for a number of contracts. Currently we have contracts for:... NEC - Government and Business Telephones - all Hospitals, Police Stations, TAFEs, Courts, Prisons and Government offices from about Kadina / Cowell, north the the borders. Optus - 71 mobile telephone bases. Vodafone - 10 mobile telephone bases. SA Government Radio Network (emergency services) around 50 sites. NBN Fixed Wireless Radio sites - around 45 sites. Telstra - sharing the many 100s of sites around SA with other companies providing power support as required. And, we service the majority of Government Schools - phone systems and cabling for a huge area of SA north / Eyre Peninsula and a large number of phone systems in Adelaide Schools. We will continue to provide support for our customers into 2020 and beyond. Making Port Augusta proud!

15.01.2022 Arid Land Communications is looking for a Team Leader with Telecommunications experience. We need a Mentor who can teach and encourage the apprentices, allocate work, quote and implement jobs to completion. We would consider a person from an allied trade or with demonstrable experience in leading a team. The position is based in Port Augusta and is full-time permanent. For a full job description, please PM me.

15.01.2022 Fantastic news! Arid Land Communications is presently the leading NEC Dealer in South Australia and is in the top 10 for Australia! Punching above our weight! We consider this a great honour and milestone for this small business - we've often been in the top 5 or so dealers but, having a good year, we've topped it out (for the moment) and it's all done without a sales person.... As techs, we have to make our sales work so it's in our best interest to do our best.

13.01.2022 Arid Land Communications has been an NEC dealer since 2007...strategically placed for Govt and Business Maintenance support, we were never expected or required to sell phone systems. Over the last several years, we've often placed well and sometimes led the sales figures...in 2016/17, we achieved NEC Channel Partner of the Year for South Australia - I think there are 9 dealers so that's a great achievement - and we don't have any sales staff. In January, as well as being the SA CPOTY, we placed in the Top 10 Australia wide. The award is based on sales - not service - but we like to think that our sales are a direct result of our service. A big thanks to all of my staff - just brilliant.

13.01.2022 Today we say goodbye to Christine and Andy Mason...after some 37 years in the Comms trade and 4 with Arid Land Comms, Andy is retiring. Chris worked here on casual hours over the last 4 years and, in a former life, worked with Andy in their own Comms business all over Australia over a long period. We are really going to miss their friendship, and their dedicated input to this business. Andy takes a wealth of experience and telecommunications know-how with him and the place will not be the same without them. Enjoy your retirement - you certainly deserve it!

12.01.2022 Arid Land Communications has been advertising for a very long time for technicians. We welcome Dave Brett (returned from Adelaide) and Simon Trafford - both very experienced Communications Technicians - and Tim Rodrigues, our school-based-apprentice who will start with us full-time mid-november.

11.01.2022 Apprentice - we are seeking a new junior Apprentice in Telecommunications. If you are interested in applying, please contact [email protected] We insist that an apprentice will be fit and healthy as our staff MUST be able to work in stressful situations (heat etc) in ceilings, on roofs etc and in isolated areas alone (when qualified)...and, would prefer someone prepared and able to learn to climb transmission towers - cannot be afraid of heights. Also, you can't be colourblind as our cables use colour codes for identification. Must be prepared to work away from home and share accommodation with other staff if required. This is an exciting industry to be in...and has a very bright future.

10.01.2022 Arid Land Communications is now 19 years old...in that time, we've trained 3 apprentices to completion, and have 2 on the boil at the moment. Last week we hosted Tim, a local lad, on 'work experience'...Tim enjoyed the week, spending it travelling all around the north helping with site maintenance and deploying generators for a number of our contract radio transmitter site clients. We are happy to promote the 'work experience' program and it's a win-win...helps local students... to have a look at our trade as an alternative, and lets us literally shop for likely candidates. We are happy to give this experience for male or female juniors...and I am proud to have worked with some very good female technicians over the years...comms should not be a 'boy's club'... I've always said that not everyone is cut-out for university and I maintain that a person with a trade is often more employable than a HE Graduate...and has the potential to earn as much or own a business.
