23.01.2022 TRUTH BOMB The 5 years I've been in the Fitness industry I've seen ALOT of people in & out of challenges. Ive been able to put myself in the clients shoes over the years & this is what I've noticed:... Challenges are sold on the fact they last 4,6,8 & 12 weeks etc. Which I have then seen many people come into a challenge with the mindset of, "getting to the end date." Which then the question becomes, but what will you do after or, how will you maintain your results at the end of it? Most challenges can teach someone how to lose the weight in the time frame but not how to keep it off without them afterwards. And this is where their businesses flourish, because they need you and you keep coming back. In an ideal world, you should be taught the tools on both, how to lose & how to maintain the results. This brings me to my next point: OBSESSIVE FOOD HABITS Boy oh boy! I have seen this too much & its worrying. Ever started a challenge & they hand you a meal plan without asking what foods you like or they tell you, "I don't wanna hear the excuses." Well, the reality is one nutrition approach is not going to fit everyone. So, stop taking nutrition approaches you fucking hate. Cause you'll start, then stop, then feel guilty, which can lead to a decline in motivation over time. Then you try a new approach which is just as extreme because maybe the last one wasn't excessive enough? & thats hard to follow so then it just feels like you're doomed forever & your body just doesn't want to lose weight.. sound familiar?! 19.01.2022 WE DONT MAKE NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS As we head into the New Year, I wonder how many of you have decided to improve one or many aspects of your life. This is something I do EVERY year. ... Not a 'new years resolution' but more so 'new years goals'. I write a list, 2 actually! 1st one is for my personal life - the goals I'd like to achieve & aspects/habits I'd like to change or improve. & The 2nd is for my business, all the things business wise I would like to achieve. I then break these huge goals into smaller goals, like monthly goals. eg: Eat healthier & care for my body You don't hit this kind of goal straight away (it takes education, learning & consistency), so we break it into more manageable chunks: 1st week of the year, throw away the junk in the house. 2nd week of the year, Drinking more water Etc Over time, these small steps amount to big changes. Its like when we think about each day, they can feel the same. But when you look back 1 year or 2 years ago things are so different. This is because the small, manageable steps each day amount to the bigger goal. So what will it be for you??? 16.01.2022 I WANTED MY LIFE TO BE DIFFERENT BUT, I WAS CONTROLLED BY FEAR I lived my life so scared of anything out of my norm that I didn’t try anything new. My life was purely controlled on how scared I felt to do something...... How anxious I felt about something or, How insecure I may have felt on that day. It cost me sitting in my comfort zone and everything staying the same. I wanted it to be different, but I was too scared to try shit. Until one day I asked myself, how will ANYTHING be different if I keep doing the same fucking thing day in, day out?! It needed to change. Not with anxiety tablets. But with pure will to never want a life run off fear & anxiety ever again. So, I pushed. Pushed through the motions of anxiety before a social event. Pushed through the hateful thoughts of my body when choosing an outfit. I pushed through the awkwardness I felt when I wasn’t sure what to say. Every single time you face that fear or anxiety it becomes smaller, less significant and less confronting. In order to live a life without fear we must dig deep to find the real causes of these emotions and triggers, we must face these obstacles head on. You are much stronger than you think. 09.01.2022 I USED TO HATE WHAT I SAW IN THE MIRROR I literally used to hate myself so deep down at the core that I lacked my own self love. I was insecure, judgemental, had my defenses up, was full of anger & didn't want to help anyone except myself. ... I hadn't learnt kindness, I hadn't learnt how to stop judging people and all it ever served was bitterness. There was one massive single thing I began to do that now looking on it - changed everything... I STOPPED THROWING OFF JUDGEMENT! Every time from this day forward if I ever thought something of someone... even someone I NEVER EVEN KNEW, I would recognise & cut the judgement out straight away. If you don't like the thought of someone else judging you this way, why would you put that behaviour on someone else? Instead, I now see past the exterior of someone, I look at them and who they are deep at the core. I now practice recognising the strengths of someone rather than their weaknesses. & for some reason this practice has helped me love who I am... the judgemental, insecure & defensive Ari became no more. Now, I want you to apply this exact same concept with your food. So if food is good for our bodies, why do I feel guilty after eating??? Typically, this guilt feeling is associated with taught behaviours & thought patterns where food is demonised. We are going to say these are Susans thoughts below It’s not good to eat too much You’re meant to be on a diet Chocolate bars make you fat 1 bad meal will send your results flying backwards ten fold These thoughts and comments have unfortunately become normalised. Yet, I am here to tell you, this is NOT NORMAL. These are the thoughts & behaviours I want you now to normalise No susan, chocolate bars don’t make people ‘fat’, excess calories do My ‘diet’ allows me to enjoy ALL types of foods with freedom Eating a lot is not a bad thing, especially when you have goals such as GAINS Here is how to avoid food guilt: Allow yourself the right to enjoy foods Occupy your thoughts and redirect them to more positive & lighter notes after snacks Know that food fuels your body, imagine yourself going to the gas station then feeling guilty for filling up your car (even though you know it is a necessity) - this is the equivalent! Sometimes we feel guilty as we are unsure where the balance really is with our nutrition. Let me tell you, it doesn’t need to feel so confusing & you don’t need to feel so lost. 07.01.2022 YOU NEED TO STOP WITH THE QUICK FIXES. I have not met 1 client in my whole life that has successfully managed their goals & lifestyle with quick fixes. Fact. Firstly, this is what I would consider a quick fix in the fitness industry: ... Training and Nutrition methods or techniques that gain results quickly but don’t consider the clients’ long term success. Instead, practice creating maintainable habits in your journey which subsequently gains maintainable results. Imagine your goal was to drop ‘x’ amount of body fat in a way you don’t yoyo back to your previous weight. Undergoing punishing nutrition and training methods wouldn’t be ideal for your long term success. You must consider: how long you’d be willing to eat/train/live in that specific way & what habits you may revert back to once it is over? Think about your social life, the date nights, your tasty snacks and the lifestyle balance you would want to create while achieving your goals. Because once you have a balance with these things, your regime & results flow much easier and less obsessively. I’ve been there strict, limited, tired & burnt out. Its hard work. But it shouldn’t feel like that. You should feel energised, you should be building ways to create your results for life, you are allowed to feel a breath of fresh air when you’re on your journey, truly. Lets stop allowing the industry to normalise ‘strict, limited, tired & burnt out’. Instead, let's start building your results slowly & consistently. Smoothly & happily. Consider the long term and how you want your journey to feel for you. Because if it's not maintainable from the start, it won't be at the end either. 04.01.2022 LIFE IS ONE BIG FAT LESSON Growing up, I never had much. Like legit. I got clothes from op shops or hardly anything new of that sort.... Lived in the backyard of our house for a rough 6 months in a Caravan and Shed because of a cyclone leaving us homeless. Then, moved to Townsville & lived in a 2 man tent for 2 years - fucking hectic life experience All while surviving some of the nastiest bullying, from being called a 'slut', 'pregnant', 'cheater', plus an array of exclusion from social groups and also cyber bullying. I've self harmed, I've been through & survived severe stress and anxiety + depression. I survived a mentally abusive relationship & rose above all the nasty roumers and emotional black mail that followed for a year after. I've lived through a 100km/hr crash on the highway. I survived even further financial hardship. && some other major life events I've yet to share with the world I have seen psychologists, I've spoken openly about my demons & I've tackled every little bit of hardship one day at a time. 03.01.2022 ITS NOT ME, ITS YOU. Its not me that will get the results for you, its your hard work that gets the results for you. (Because as coaches we can help you with your program, with your training, give advice and tips on nutrition BUT if you can't put the work in, the results just won't show) ... Here are my tips to being an extremely coachable client: SHOW UP - Whether its your training session or your check-ins, you must show up (very important especially if you've had a crap week). Not showing up means we cannot guide you correctly, but it also shows you're not THAT serious. ASK QUESTIONS - Questions about your routine, questions about your food, why you do certain things, eat certain things, train a certain way. There is usually a logical answer to everything we do as coaches, so ask away! - This is actually how you'll be able to learn the knowledge to keep your results long term! PUT IN THE WORK - This is simple... hiring a coach doesn't automatically equate to results. No matter how good your coach is. So, put in the work with all aspects of your routine (sleep, recovery, nutrition, training). Your results are YOUR responsibility. FOLLOW YOUR PLAN CLOSELY - Its simple really... If you put in 30% effort you'll only get 30% results. 100% effort = 100% results. COMMUNICATE & BE HONEST - There is no way we can read your struggles, if you communicate to your coach your struggles this helps them help you. If we dont know we don't know. So if you've had a shit week, talk about it. Be honest in your self reflection... If you're saying you had a good week but ate take out 2-3 times & missed 2 training sessions, this is not honest reflection. Ask yourself, what area could I improve this week? Because you'll find there is always room for improvement!
