03.01.2022 Good News from the AMC Dear Bridging course providers This communication is an update on the AMCs efforts to recommence the AMC clinical examination. The AMC has been developing an alternative method of delivering the AMC clinical examination in response to COVID-19 to avoid a long-term postponement of the examinations and enable AMC candidates continuation of their examination pathway towards registration for practice in Australia. ... The alternative clinical examination will be delivered online initially via the Zoom platform, although in the longer term other delivery methods will be examined. The online interaction will involve an invigilator, a simulated patient, and the candidate. The examination will be recorded and marked after the examination by an AMC examiner. The alternative clinical examination will retain the current structure of 14 scored stations and two unscored stations (pilots). The required pass mark will continue to be 10 or higher. The AMC Clinical Examination Results Panel will continue to analyse candidate and examination performance, as it formally approves candidate results. At the AMC Directors meeting held on 17 September, approval for the implementation of the alternate clinical examination online delivery method was confirmed, based on the following- A two-phased approach of: 1. An initial objective to recommence the clinical examinations in February 2021, while ensuring examination validity and reliability remain consistent with the current clinical examination. 2. A second objective to implement broader improvements for the long-term development and improvement of the clinical examination late 2021. Ongoing communication and engagement with examination candidates is a priority for the AMC. Examination candidates will be provided with further information as the AMC progresses. It is expected the next stage of communications will occur toward the end of November 2020 regarding intended recommencement dates. Where possible, the information will also be provided earlier. The safety of all examination participants and the community and the maintenance of the highest standards continue to be the paramount considerations for the AMC.
