25.01.2022 Between Sunday 6th September, and the 14th September 2020, the Arirrki CEO, Wes, will be uncontactable. If you have any Community Support requests or problems, please contact a Board member. (Gregson is always fun to annoy!) We have several big projects in early planning stages, plus the Arirrki Art Gallery proposal before the ALC this week. All of this projects will have a huge impact not only on Arirrki members, but with benefits to the wider Groote community. The CEO will be working on these projects for the next week, plus he has his first grand child ( and great grand child for Abel and Freda due this week. ) If you have any problems, please see a Board member.

There’s nothing risky and he should be back in Darwin, where it’ll be much warmer that Adelaide, later in the week. The Arirrki CEO, Wes, will be his escort and will make sure he comes home as healthy as he left.

21.01.2022 On Friday 6th November, Arirrki Aboriginal Corporation CEO Wes and the Spectacular Jumping Crocodiles operation manager, Deanna, represented Arirrki as a finalist in the Chief Minster’s NT Export and Industry Awards at the Darwin Convention centre. Although we were beaten in in the indigenous business category be a specialist welding company from Alice Springs, the Lalara family, through Arirrki, is being recognised in the NT business community. Arirrki has come along way in the past 12 months. Our plans for the future will support more family members and create employment on Groote Eylandt. The wider business community is taking notice of us for the right reasons and it is only a matter of time before we are seen as the benchmark.

10.01.2022 Arirrki members Due to the Herbert funeral clashing with the AGM, we have taken advice from ORIC. The rule book does not allow the AGM to be rescheduled. After some discussion, we will do the AGM on a live stream via our Facebook page to all members. This will meet our rule book obligations. We will hold an Arirrki BBQ on Sunday to distribute hard copies of all information from the AGM. The board will answer any questions without the fornality of the AGM rules. This should g...ive greater information to our members. The current Board is Willy, Russell, Hamilton, and Abel as community liaison. Phillip has said he wishes to step down. Arnold has moved away from Groote Eylandt. Gregson has missed four of the past directors meetings.. This is more than required to step him down as a director by the rule book. Fabian has expressed an interest to join the Board. If anyone wishes to be considered for the Board, please let a director know ASAP.

10.01.2022 Spectacular Jumping Crocodile Cruises, is wholly owned by the Arirrki Aboriginal Corporation. Profits from ticket sales go back to support the Groote Eylandt community

08.01.2022 Are you an artist/designer? Arirrki is looking for a new corporate shirt to reflect our push into community service work. We want to reflect Anindilyakwa culture and our business. If your interested, contact Wes at [email protected]

08.01.2022 Let’s hope that the ALC throws their weight behind the other Land Councils to keep our people safe.

07.01.2022 Today was a milestone for Arirrki. After two years of planning and building, our new 2 Storey guest facilities at Spectacular Jumping Crocodile Cruises was officially open, by our own clan leader, neniyuwangkwa, Abel Lalara, and senior clan leader from the Limilngan- Wulna people, Graham Kenyon. Spectacular Jumping Crocodiles occupies their lands. The Lalara family through Abel, and Hamilton have strengthened our ties with the Kenyon family and will continue to work with them to promote indigenous culture. Arirrki hopes to continue to grow this business and expand it back to Groote Eylandt, where it will be able to support not only Lalara’s, but the wider Anindilyakwa community.

06.01.2022 Make sure you vote so that you don’t get fined.

04.01.2022 As Arirrki continues to grow, with our latest venture being into community service work with the department of corrections, it is fast becoming more than management and the Board can keep up with. If a motion was passed at the AGM at the end of the end of the month, t5o change the rule book to allow sub committees made up of members and specialist people for projects, would the members support it? The Board would still be made up of the family elders who would set Arirrki’s d...irection, the management group, would simply assist in carrying out the Elders wishes and see to the running of Arirrki’s businesses. Potentially these people maybe trained to become involved or even manage various Arirrki projects or small businesses. If the below motion was put forward at a special meeting, would members support it? Motion: To allow the formation of sub-committee(s) under the direction of the Board of Elders, to assist in the running and management of Arirrki businesses/projects. Sub-committee members maybe reimbursed for expenses at the discretion of the Board of Elders. Members of these committees maybe from any Arirrki family group, or outside specialist individuals when required, appointed by the Board of Elders. Expressions of interest would be called each year at the AGM, or throughout the year as required.

04.01.2022 Notice to Arirrki members The Arirrki Aboriginal Corporation Board of Directors, is continuing restructuring of its businesses to work to best industry practices. They have agreed to work together, both with members of the Lalara family, other Anindilyakwa clans, and mainland clans such as the Wulna people of the Beatrice Hill area to take Arirrki and the Lalara clan into the future by co-operating with others to maintain the the three key principals of Arirrki’s business str...ategy. Responsibility, Sustainability, and Indigenous. The Arirrki Board realises that in order to build a future for its members, it needs to work along side others to make opportunities, that there is strength in many voices as one. Arirrki is currently seeking funding to build an Art Gallery at its Spectacular Jumping Crocodile Cruises business in Darwin. We are looking to give at least 50% of this building over to promoting Anindilyakwa artists to sell their Art and crafts, to a much larger market than currently offered on Groote Eylandt. This Gallery would also promote Groote Eylandt and the surrounding islands, as well as Anindilyakwa values and culture, to visitors. Arirrki has begun discussions with several groups. Including the Anindilyakwa Land Council, Groote Eylandt Aboriginal Trust, Tourism Top End, and East Arnhem Land Development, to establish a tourism industry on Groote Eylandt. Arirrki is looking at ways that tourism ventures can be created sustainably with other clans and corporations to create future jobs for the Anindilyakwa people. The Arirrki Aboriginal Corporation is committed to finding ways to improve the lives of not just the Lalara Clan, but all locals on Groote Eylandt. The Arirrki Board is offering to share ideas and discuss future plans with any corporation or family group that is willing to work alongside us with the same agendas and goals. The Board of directors extends a welcome to all other clans and corporations to hold discussions to build and manage a tourism industry on Groote Eylandt with the goal of building jobs for local Anindilyakwa people

03.01.2022 Arirrki Members- As we draw closer to the Arirrki AGM at the end of November, its worth reflecting on how this year has progressed. Depsite the overspending inherited from the previous General Manager, COVID 19 close downs of our business, and internal arguments that slowed our businesses, Arirrki has passed through the last 12 months and is in a good position for 2021.... We have increased our money in the bank. We have money from grants for major projects, we are negotiating with several parties, including the government on finally bringing to life Arirrki’s Art and Cultural Centre at Spectacular Jumping Crocodile Cruises in Darwin. This will not only be an additional income, but will support Anindilyakwa artists and promote Groote Eylandt as a tourist destination to a major tourist market. We are hoping to launch an Arirrki website shortly that will not only promote our Corporation, but be an extra source of information for members. Arirrki has moved into community service work with the Department of Corrections to try and help our youth, and have plans for further expansion in this role, including additional community resources. We are converting non-income assists into income producing ones, and using some of this in expanding Groote Eylandt Car Rentals into new areas that will support members and produce more income for community support. We are hoping to start a business incubator program in 2021 that will encourage Arirrki families to start their own businesses and support their own families. We have made mistakes, we have got some things wrong this year, but we have also listened to members and the community and worked to fix those mistakes. Arirrki Board members have shown great trust and leadership in solving problems and coming out of what should have been a terrible year, in a good place. Willy, Russell, Phillip, Hamilton and Abel, have worked with Arirrki management to create a better future for the Lalara Family. 2021 will see Arirrki giving members more hope and a better future, be excited. Very good things are coming.....

03.01.2022 Aboriginal candidates all over the top end are promising to work together to see change for Indigenous communities. Nhulunbuy MLA Yinglya Guyula has said he will work with Arnhem independent candidate Ian Gumbula from Ngukurr to look after indigenous people. Independent Aboriginal politicians working togther will reinforce the message of many voices togther are strong.

02.01.2022 The ALC has organised a charter flight between Cairns and Groote Eylandt on the 27th of November. Please contact Amanda at the ALC Community Support Program if ...you would like to book a seat on this flight. Limited seats available and all travelers are responsible for completing their own Border Entry passes.

02.01.2022 For those planning travel to Darwin
