11.01.2022 heritage estate.// Walking into the timeless beauty that is Heritage Estate Wines, it was like taking a step back in time. A grand piano in the far corner a and classic fireplace all add to the vintage feel of the 1946 cellar door restaurant. With a focus on fresh, seasonal and local produce paired with their award winning wines I had to try 'Nips and Nosh.' A fine food wine experience served Friday-Sunday. When I spoke to International Chef, Sarah she shared the menu is ab...out enhancing the flavour of farm to table produce with a sip and bite approach. Owners since 2019 Robert and Therese Fenwick have created incredible events for all to enjoy. They have a 'Lazy Sunday' once a month with live music. A '5 Senses Degustation Dinner' with the next being Saturday 27th February. A Black tie 7 course dinner hosted once a month. Enhance all your senses with food with wine to match, showcasing a recoloured movie and a live string quartet. Your whole sensory system will be taken on a journey. John Handy has been the Chief Winemaker and Viticulturist for 15 years. He grew up on the property, with his parents planting the first 10acres, he then left for study and returned seeing the potential in his parents bossoming wine business. With wine in his blood he is known as a revered wine maker across the country. Heritage even hosts the oldest cottage on the Granite Belt Wine Country built in 1864. A private abode with ceder lined from floor to the 14ft ceilings and a romantic fireplace. The heritage at Heritage Estate not only comes from it's 60 year old vines. But it's old church, old winery, old cottage and family history at the helm. I enjoyed how the focus at Heritage is to create an unforgettable experience. Their food selection is really about telling a story and I love the art that has gone into such a special menu which changes seasonally and sources locally. 04.01.2022 essen restaurant.// My final stop and a must visit in Stanthorpe was the quaint and charming Essen Restaurant which serves home style cooking prepared with local produce, a lifetime of experience and a whole lot of love. Essen is an Austrian/German noun meaning: meal, dinner, food, cooking, to eat. Which is a perfect fit for a 3rd generation Austrian family line of chefs. Owner Clarissa her husband Stu and Mother Claudia are a family team and are supported by family frien...d David from Orchard Experience and front of house staff Gracie who has been with them since opening in September. Clarissa trained as a chef in Melbourne where she met her husband Stu on their first day at Tafe. How lucky are we that now their home is right in the heart of the Granite Belt. When speaking with Clarissa she said, 'she likes to make food we like to eat using local produce in an environment that is comfortable for everyone.' With a strong grow local, eat local ethos, everything they source is from farmers and artisans of Granite Belt Wine Country. From suppliers like McMahon Brothers Orchard, Sams Farm Fresh Fruit and Veg who sources direct from the farmer, organic salads, no sprays and house grown herbs and edible flowers. The set menu is changed weekly, works with seasonal produce and you can BYO for a corkage fee. Grow, cook and eat wholesome and honest food with friends and family at Essen. With everything on your plate sourced from the ever fertile and abundant land we like to call home. 03.01.2022 the weeping mulberry.// A long term dream turned into reality for Duanne and his wife Janet when they opened The Weeping Mulberry. A unique coffee lounge and garden centre with quaint and quirky private rooms where you can sit back, relax and enjoy morning/afternoon tea or a light lunch and a Campos Coffee. With a keen eye for interior design the heart of his business is offering a unique experience with nooks bursting with colour, giftware, local art and comfortable chair...s you can enjoy a lovely time with friends. Local produce from Rose City Fruits and W. Carey & Sons Quality Meats as well as supporting our Aussie Farmers with Norco Milk is also key. An abundance of locally made art throughout is eye catching and local ladies create his delicious baked good. As you move outside there is a pet friendly area in the peaceful garden setting which connects to his nursery. Dwayne is known for his love and passion for gardening and the outdoors. He is a Horticulturist and creates garden concept design via consultation. 'The Granary' is an incredibly refurbished rustic feel building just out back. You can hire it for functions, events, workshops and all your catering needs. His staff are pleasant, friendly and alongside are the face of his business. He as an incredible knowledge for the local area and like myself he knows the heart of any business is the people. He enjoys seeing the happiness of the community in his unique space he offers.
