24.01.2022 All the different eating approaches out there have one main thing in common - cut out the crap and eat more whole and unprocessed foods Don’t go ON a diet - because at some stage you will come OFF it!! This is the main issue with dieting and then comes the weight cycling. Instead, choose a nutrition approach you can sustain in the long term, one that you never come OFF but one that accepts you will have bumps a long the way. Good nutrition habits will help with sleep,... energy, vitality and health, there are no real negatives to eating highly nutritious foods. Keep making small sustainable changes to your nutrition habits Be consistent Get the most out of your body. This approach might not be sexy or glitzy, it might even be boring - but it works. 22.01.2022 This weekend we were able to watch the sport of CrossFit in action. It’s amazing to watch humans who are capable of amazing things. In reality, what we do every day in the gym is achieve amazing things. Everybody has their own version of amazing. For some, it might just be that first 400m run without stopping, being able to get up and down off the ground for the first time, or getting your very first pull up. At Ariston, our goal is to create healthier happier humans. Some may become elite athletes, most will not - but all are equally amazing.

19.01.2022 What is the relationship between WEIGHT, HEALTH and WORTH?? We can’t make weight the same as health, and we can’t base our worth on our weight. Weight will increase your risk of poor health. It’s like speeding will increase your risk of having an accident, but it’s not the only consideration. Therefore, health is not determined by your weight. There are other markers that will provide a more accurate representation of health and these metrics can’t be ignored. ... Worth is not dictated by your weight or health. You have worth regardless of these things. However, you do have a choice to improve your health by doing those things that are proven to decrease risk factors (like turning on the cruise control to stop you from speeding, or wearing a seat belt to protect you in an accident). Heart attack and dementia are the top 2 killers in Australia. How do we decrease risk factors for these 2 diseases? Good nutrition and exercise. What about depression and anxiety? Yep, it’s good nutrition and exercise. If HEALTH is important to you, we would love to talk to you.

17.01.2022 B A C K P A I N R E H A B Who would have thought! Adrian had back surgery 6 weeks ago. Following surgery he did an intensive session of NeuroHAB and then returned to Bundaberg to continue his NeuroHAB rehab program with @aristonfitness. In the last 4 weeks, Adrian has learnt how to move proficiently and without pain. He can now comfortably pick things off the ground and even row without pain. He is currently not taking any pain medication. After 4 years of back pain,... he is amazed at how simple the answer was. Learn to move well. Contact us and we can put you on the right path. 16.01.2022 No excuses Our 9am class is mostly filled with mums and shift workers - nurses, police, overnight disability workers and doctors. I was tired from a 4:30am start, nothing to really whinge about. However, these awesome members had had a rougher night than me. One had 3 hours sleep after finishing a night shift. The mums had been woken 3, 4 or enough times to lose count..yet they still showed up with smiles on their faces and keen to do a workout knowing they would feel bet...ter if they did. Seriously. No excuses.

Stop worrying about all the less important things like supplements, plant based, keto, superfoods, organic only, or juice diets.Instead focus on these 3 nutrition steps. They will provide the most benefit over all the other stuff. 1. QUALITY... Choose vegetables and fruit that are as close to their natural state as possible. Limit processed, deep fried or juiced forms. In unprocessed forms these foods contain more of the nutrients and fibre that your body needs to metabolise energy and maintain a healthier, fitter and happier body. Aim to have 800g per day of vegetables and fruit. A few tips to achieve this - space it across the day, choose a variety of all types and fruits and veggies, and yes, potato are counted but not chips/fries etc.. Try weighing your fruit and veggies for a few days and aim to push it to 800g 2. PROTEIN Of all the macronutrients, protein is the one that requires us to hit the correct amount. Adequate protein is essential for muscle strength, growth and even maintenance which is especially important as you age. A good starting point would be 1.5 grams of protein per kg of body weight. You will need more if you are very active or have a higher muscle mass. 3. APPROPRIATE ENERGY INTAKE FOR WEIGHT CONTROL The term ‘weight control’ is used loosely as this could refer to increasing, deceasing or maintaining dependent on your goals. There are lots of energy calculators that estimate your bodies energy needs, but the only way to know for sure is track your weight and be confident in the amount of energy you are taking in. If your weight is doing what you aim to achieve and your diet is sustainable and healthy, then you are in the right place. 07.01.2022 If you used to be fit/lean/strong, then often your expectations of being back where you once were can be hard to deal with. It will take time. It will take effort. And no, you may not return to where you once were - but you could possibly go even further! If exercise is new to you, then realise that you need to start at the beginning, and that is ok. Everyone started there once. Don't ever assume that people don't remember what the beginning feels like. And don't assume that they didn't work damn hard to get where they are today. If you desire to start moving in a better direction, then you need to do what you can, with what you have, from where you are.

02.01.2022 Coach Kel has been running Dr Johnson’s NeuroHAB program for some years at Ariston Fitness. I was first drawn to the program after my own mother was suffering from back pain. I knew her pain was very much caused by poor movement and was researching ways to help mum without the need of surgical intervention. This is when I came across the NeuroHAB program run by The Functional Movement Training Centre. At the time, I didn’t realise the program was run from a CrossFit gy...m just down the road from where mum lived in Caloundra. I had been a CrossFit coach for a few years in Bundaberg. I realised that I needed to be part of the solution. This is when I approached Dr Johnson to undertake training to deliver his NeuroHAB program here in Bundaberg. At Ariston Fitness, we have been pleased to help people move more proficiently and to have overcome their back pain, or at least continue to move whilst living with conditions that would otherwise be debilitating.
