22.01.2022 We have done a lot of kilometres in the past few weeks and driven on some roads named after some optimistic explorers from the 1800s and got us thinking of how we are travelling compared to them. We are in an air-conditioned car with comfy seats and a fridge full of beer and softdrinks and towing 'comfort that follows you everywhere' aka our van, which has all the mod cons. The explorers on the other hand only had their legs or a horse, no change of clothes, food was limited... to flour, sugar, probably tea and possibly sheep to eat on the way. They were open to all the elements and had no real idea where they were going or what was ahead of them. Some of these explorers tried several times to succeed in their quests and some died trying. We thought it would be amazing for these guys to know we are still using the routes they forged. Stuart Highway - named after John McDouall Stuart who made several attempts to travel from south to north and travelled over 16000 km. He named Chambers Pillar, The MacDonnell Ranges and Finke River to name a few. An interesting fact was that he returned to Adelaide the same time the bodies of Burke and Wills were returned there. Ernest Giles Road - as name suggests led expeditions from the centre to the west and named The Olgas / Kata Tjuta.

13.01.2022 We have great memories of our recent outback adventures and look forward to getting out on the road again, but for now we are sitting it out in lockdown.
