24.01.2022 https://arklab.com.au/portfolio-item/roadtek-sunshine-coast/ Roadtek Sunshine Coast Complete ... arkLABs $15M Roadtek Sunshine Coast Depot provides enhanced access to traffic incidents on the Sunshine Coast arterial road network. In a design and construct collaboration with Badge Constructions, arkLAB's new facilities comprise offices, workshops, warehouse, materials storage, and vehicle wash-down and support facilities. Environmental considerations include paint-recycling, rainwater harvesting and solar power generation facilities. The results have attested to the commitment of all involved in delivering this great outcome.

24.01.2022 Hope Church Rothwell Opens... https://arklab.com.au/2020/06/hope-church-rothwell-opens/ arkLAB’s commission for the Rothwell campus of the Hope Church comprised a 650 seat Church auditorium, support facilities, amenities and associated site works and represents a prototype for future developments on further campuses. For this project arkLAB were commissioned as design development, detailing and documentation architects by Evans Built in a collaborative design and construct contract and based, in part, on a concept prepared by Phillips Smith Conwell Architects. A key part of our role was working with the client, and contractor, to guide an informed value management process to achieve performance and budget outcomes.

The Australian Institute of Architects' Dulux Study Tour prize is your opportunity to be part of an exciting and coveted program that inspires and fosters Australias next generation of emerging architectural talent. Sarah has worked with ar...kLAB for the past 3 years across a variety of project types and contributed in their design, development and management at a high level. Sarah has also taken on practice leadership roles in marketing and the mentoring of team members and made a significant contribution to the practice. During Sarahs time with arkLAB she has been involved in a wide variety of projects including the master planning and design of education environments for universities and schools, office interior fitouts, residential, industrial, commercial, and adaptive re-use projects as well as specialist heritage architect roles on heritage-listed structures.

20.01.2022 https://arklab.com.au/?p=2809&preview=true Ferny Grove SHS 2020 Ready Project Opens Ferny Grove SHS Block X is the largest project in the Queensland Governments 2020 Ready program. The building provides, across three levels, 23 classrooms, 4 science laboratories, as well as STEM, Flex, and Collaboration spaces.... Central breezeways organise circulation and encourage ventilation/light deep into the footprint. The building aligns to existing context, but kinks to address street. At this junction, and elsewhere, the form breaks apart, creating opportunities for outdoor learning and passage. Conceptually, the design explores the buildings function as a STEM centre and science themes abound. Cellular façades are patterned to represent the divisions of the periodic table. Metallic bricks mitre with split-faced concrete blocks at the main entry in a homage to cut sodium. This combined with the foil like appearance of the guttering, and the scattered, and in places overwhelmingly stimulating, graphic representation of the periodic table, act to underscore aspects of high school science experience.

19.01.2022 COHORT Innovation Space Research Facility Opens https://arklab.com.au//cohort-innovation-space-research-f/ Recently completed, this Innovation Research Facility is the first of its kind in Australia. The brief for the Gold Coast Laboratory Facility was for a co-working style lab space to expand on the concept and success of the co-working offices to the lower floor Cohort Innovation Space which forms part of the renowned Gold Coast Health and Knowledge precinct.... The flexible laboratory space has customizable leasing arrangements for short or long-term scientific entrepreneurs who are able to adapt the space to suit their specific requirements. Thoughtful spatial planning and generous use of glazing enables visitors to have a glimpse into the space and connects the laboratories to the overall collaborative atmosphere of the highly regarded Cohort hub.

This commission comprised the design development of new facilities comprising Administration, a Crew Centre, Ambulance Plant Room, and Training Facilities. in a performance-driven planing and facility design. For this project arkLAB were commissioned as design development, detailing and documentation architects by FKG Group in a collaborative design and construct contract and based, in part, on a concept prepared by Lightbox Architects.

The new facilities include a Trade Training Centre, Hair and Beauty Training Facilities, Offices and support infrastructure located on the picturesque Gladstone Harbour. The design was developed to provide a range of working environments sheltered under a draped roof form to provide protection from sun and wind-driven rain. The project was delivered under a Design and Construct contract with Paynters, with whom we have previously delivered other stellar education projects.

14.01.2022 https://arklab.com.au//10/yunus-social-business-centre-op/ arkLABs Yunus Social Business Centre has just opened. The Yunus Social Business Centre, located at Griffith University, Logan Campus, is a space that is intended to foster the development of entrepreneurial businesses that are starting out locally and looking to do more for their communities than just make a profit. It was quickly evident that this project, while being small in scale at 230m2 represented some rea...lly interesting ideologies and presented challenges that aligned closely with the sustainable philosophies of ArkLAB. The space is designed to be flexible, open planned offices with a variety of types of places including collaborative, quiet & social work. Our design opened up the space to a large amount of natural light and significantly increased the visual transparency, by opening up to the entry foyer and celebrating the existing horizontal axis that it sits alongside. The use of a raw unfinished material palette has assisted in providing spaces that inspire curiosity, possibility, awareness, empathy, creativity, participation & innovation. The most interesting point for this project is the utilisation of local suppliers, companys and materials. For example, the quiet work Pods are being designed by a local start-up company in collaboration with us and the user group, where old furniture and equipment from the university is being reappropriated. All possible existing materials where recycled from the demolition, through local start ups like; Re-Gyp, Reverse Garbage QLD and Recycling Near you.

As part of our Education Architecture specialist services arkLAB are frequently asked to assist with the masterplanning of education facilities. Such was the brief for this recent project involving the analysis of existing use and circulation patterns, dem...ographics and developing pedagogy. The new suite of facilities includes multi-storey Senior Learning Centres, master-planned links to existing and planned facilities and associated site works, decanting and modifications with attention given to passive climatic systems and orientation, controlled daylighting and effective natural ventilation in a mixed-mode climate control system.
