Rescued by the clients around 14years ago, he’s a very important member of this family and as such they decided he too should enjoy the spoils of custom design and a new home. @keenarchitecture captured the brief perfectly with this fully automated and sophisticated turtle home. Forming part of the spotted gum veneered kitchen and full exposure to the living room Gwido is thrilled with the results. Great execution by @verse...joinery to bring all of the elements together. 21.01.2022 Hot Topic // timber V Steel in fire When my wife showed me this incredible home going up in flames on @granddesignsau she instantly said shame its built from wood BUT...... she was quite surprised when I told her Wood actually performed much better than steel in a fire. I thought this would be a worthy topic considering we are approaching the fire season and perhaps most people didnt realise this. Id love to hear your thoughts.

19.01.2022 As you all know theres a real push for GASas the saviour of our economical recovery. I just wanted to let people know that this isnt necessarily a smart ide...a by the government and that gas is not your only option. Almost all of these incredible homes weve built have NO gas to the property. This includes hot water, where we use a heat pump. In some cases we have installed a ring main so the hot water is instant when opening the tap. All this electricity is offset by a solar PV unit. Im not suggesting everyone should do this, Im just letting people know that you can live a life of luxury and still be sustainable ..... you dont need to choose one or the other . See more

17.01.2022 Hubble Street // East Fremantle Always a tough decision with north facing exposure to the alfresco. Do you prioritise natural light over shelter from the rain? Very tough to achieve both and based on recent days the shelter would be quite handy. Weve opted to brave the elements here and keep the northern light flooding through the open plan living area with the prospect of achieving both through planting.... I love it!! See more

15.01.2022 Hausen Court // Banjup Meet Roy..... Roy is a lawnmower so we cant show you his face. He get outs once or twice a week and keeps the grass at a set length and then heads back to his shelter to recharge. Because he is so consistent he only cuts the tips of the grass so you never need to collect or get rid of grass clippings. They just fall between the cracks and break down into the soil. 12.01.2022 Thompson Street // North Perth Great design outcome here by the talented @arcologic_design The balustrade wall and open rise staircase completely open the space of what would typically be a standard entry corridor. I suppose not everyone may understand or appreciate the different between design often free (supposedly) and good design never free. Heres a classic example on how important design really is and how it has such an ENORMOUS impact on how you live.

11.01.2022 Regent Avenue // Mt Pleasant Just a week before handover and we finally get access to the front door. Well worth the wait and the challenge that comes with the somewhat unorthodox approach to construction we are known for. This custom made bridge is 9.5 mtrs long and the Karri boards are reclaimed from an old Fremantle workers cottage. We preserved and worked around this old frangipani from demolition right through construction. Can’t wait to see it fully landscaped and lit... up. 05.01.2022 Regent Street // Mt Pleasant Ok stuff it.... Im going to throw out a few more trade secrets. I know everyone is in the mood to build or renovate with all of this cash up for grabs. This is how you prepare a bathroom for tiling. If youre not doing this kind of prep then your tiler is under charging you, and you are essentially paying too much in my eyes.... Pic 1 - prepare the substrate. Mastic and tape the corners, junctions and joins with flexible tape. In this case Ardex STB tape. Apply primer to walls and floor Pic 2 - Apply water proofing to floor and come up the walls 100mm. Cross hatching and the second coat Pic 3 - install screed. In this case weve created a single fall to a linear grate. This creates a wet room with no hobs or recess and a beautiful seamless transition into the room. And of course no cut tiles through the main area of the floor. Pic 4 - Fully water proof to 1800 high around the room. Not essential to do the whole room but in this case we have a screen less bathroom with a floating vanity. All of this work was done by @marvelltileandstone its very important to work out your tile set out prior to all of this. 04.01.2022 @msbform arrived today here in WA. Proud to be the first builder in Western Australia to support this innovative hard working team who have developed an incredible product to improve the quality of concrete preparation and installation in the building industry. Im super excited... you all know how I feel about building and how passionate I am about the quality we produce. This was a significant investment back into our company with one goal in mind To Get Better and keep getting better!!! Concrete slabs are such a critical part of the construction process especially burnished and polished slabs. I hope we can inspire others in our pursuit of perfection and continue to lift the bar in Western Australia for custom built homes.

So I googled it: A breezeway is an architectural feature similar to a hallway that allows the passage of a breeze between structures to accommodate high winds, allow aeration, or provide aesthetic design variation. Often a breezeway is a simple roof connecting two structures (such as a house and a garage); that’...s exactly what this is! You nailed it Kris. In addition to the BAL requirements we have installed this incredible roof top sprinkler system to protect the home in the event of a fire. Great planning by both client and Architect to incorporate the solar PV and battery storage, intelligent wiring for mobile operation, the landscape reticulation, and roof top reticulation as well as a separate fire brigade stor...age water tank on this incredible property.
