17.01.2022 We’d like to say a HUGE thank you to all the businesses so far that have kindly agreed to display our petition to ban greyhound racing. We couldn’t do it withou...t you and we appreciate your help so much In WA, our government only accepts paper copy petitions with original signatures - online petitions are not an option. This means we have to work harder to get our petitions out into the community to collect signatures. We couldn’t reach our target by January without the help of these businesses. With their assistance, we will be sending a strong clear message to our state government that greyhound exploitation has no place in a modern compassionate society. We ask our followers if you can please please head over to these businesses’ social media pages and give them a like. Also, make a commitment to visit & support them- grab some pet treats, or a coffee, or lunch, and thank them. 05.01.2022 ARMADALE - A BLAST FROM THE PAST The Perth suburb of Armadale was described at one time as "a rustic little town between the hills, of vineyards, brooks, cows a...nd crops". Located 28 kilometers south-east the Perth CBD, the area's traditional owners are the Noongar Aboriginal people. In 1853 the original Narrogin Inn (later re-named Ye Olde Narrogin Inne) was established at the corner of Albany Highway and South West Highway. It became a popular hostelry, much patronised by honeymooners and travellers venturing southward towards Albany. The Inn also signalled the beginnings of the township of Armadale. When the railway line from Perth to Armadale was completed in 1892, the town flourished into a prosperous settlement which included a brick works. Farmers were now able to send their produce more quickly to Perth by rail - eggs, fruit, vegetables, dairy and livestock. The townsite was gazetted in 1909. In the 1920's the carnival dances at the Armadale Football Club were famous. People came from as far as Jarradale and Cannington to party to the tunes of Miss Mulvay's four-piece orchestra. Power lines were installed in the town and the first hospital was built. In the 1950s the Armadale Senior High School was established. In 1980 Pioneer World (later known as Pioneer Village) opened and in 1985 the City of Armadale was proclaimed. Do you have memories and stories of Armadale? Share them here...
