23.01.2022 At my Grandmother’s 100th birthday party, I was tasked with taking portraits of all my relatives on my Father’s side of the family. It was an interesting experience for me as a photographer, as I shot quite a few portraits in a short amount of time. Those of you that have been out with me on the streets know that this is a rare occurrence! I don’t know how wedding photographers do it. 23.01.2022 After two consecutive mornings of waking up at 530am, it felt quite luxurious to sleep in until 7:30am. One interesting aspect of staying on the ship was a wake-up call and announcement from the expedition leader every morning. Since the conditions are so variable in Antarctica, the plans are constantly changing. This meant that we wouldn't truly know what we would be doing in the morning until the announcement was made. 23.01.2022 Off to an early start, I spent nearly the entire day on the sidelines watching everyone else search out, approach and photograph strangers. It's always inspiring to see Pete and Neil at work and I was equally impressed shooting with Sylvia for the first time. After lunch, I was still stranger-less and the pressure was mounting. 22.01.2022 Making the most of my trip down to Melbourne, I decided to stick around for another day of shooting. In quite a change of pace, I spent the day shooting solo. Even without the friendly competitive pressure of shooting with the others, or the idea of being the only one not to shoot a stranger, I was inspired by the previous day’s work and was much more focused on the task at hand. 21.01.2022 About a month ago, I went out shooting with Pete, Neil and Sylvia in one of our favorite hunting grounds--Newtown. Everyone else had a fruitful day and Neil even captured Stranger #300! Yet somehow, I managed to come away empty handed. Photography has been on a back-burner for a while and was only mildly holding my interest, but recently I've been keen to get back into it. So when last weekend gave me an opportunity to shoot with Neil in Melbourne, I had to jump in with bo...th feet (even waking up at 5:30am to catch a flight down). 20.01.2022 Without any expectations of taking another photo, I stumbled across Carmen and her husband, immediately thankful that I had chosen to go via the laneways. Almost without thinking, I made my approach before they could disappear into the Royal Arcade, catching them halfway through the doors. 17.01.2022 After a few hours of shooting, Eduardo and I ended up having lunch at Pizza Birra. A helpful tip that I offered was to eat somewhere that we could still keep an eye out for potential strangers and that would facilitate running off to chase someone mid-meal, if the need arose. As luck would have it, this is exactly what happened. See more... https://www.flickr.com/photos/evansrobinson/28661969246/

14.01.2022 A few weeks ago, I reached out to my friend Eduardo to ask about landscape photography and going shooting together to see if I could pick up a few tips and tricks. Ironically, he was keen to join me on a street session to learn about shooting strangers. See more... https://www.flickr.com//evansr/27465652244/in/photostream/

14.01.2022 Day 1, 31 December 2016 - Punta Arenas, Chile. In preparation for visiting Antarctica, we opted to do a short tour out to Magdalena Island which was about an hour away by tour bus + boat. The tour had two stops, the first of which was to see sea lions. They were interesting in their own right, but didn't hold a candle to the second stop which was for Magellanic penguins. 12.01.2022 There was a strict weight limit of 20 kg per person, including checked bag and carry-on. At first this seemed like it would be a non-issue until I realized my camera backpack weighed just over 8 kg alone. Fortunately (or unfortunately?), we had to wear all our cold weather gear on the plane, as we would be deplaning directly onto the gravel runway at Frei Station. This certainly helped ensure my bags were under the weight limit. See more... https://www.flickr.com///33524963395/in/dateposted-public/

10.01.2022 Vietnam has a wide variety of ethnic minority groups, the largest of which is the Tay people. During a recent holiday to the northern part of the country, I had the unique experience of attending a local Tay funeral in the mountain village of Trung. 09.01.2022 Opting for one of our normal stomping grounds, Newtown, we agreed to meet on Saturday morning. In an unusual twist, I woke up earlier than expected and arrived at The Hub first. While waiting for Peter and Kathie to join me, I spotted Olivia and her friend Lisa setting up a stall to sell clothing. It was her amazing hair that first caught my attention and combined with her eyes I couldn’t pass up the opportunity. But it wasn’t until after Peter and Kathie arrived, bringing with them some moral support, did I make my approach. See more... https://www.flickr.com//206893/in/album-72157633559037424/

08.01.2022 I’ve been looking for a well groomed stranger sporting an epic beard for quite some time now. To make matters worse, I even missed opportunities in Melbourne on more than one occasion. As a result, I was quite relieved when Charlie agreed to have his portrait taken! See more... https://www.flickr.com/photos/evansrobinson/28402739783/
