25.01.2022 Every day, we see artists doing amazing things OUTSIDE of their primary art practice. Perhaps they're doing workshops, talks, tutorials, writing blogs, special events, giving behind-the-scenes tours or videos - there's so much artists are doing to engage their audiences. But every one of these things we see, at AP we think "darn, that could have been such a great philanthropy reward, but there it is, being given away for free [or for a once-off sale]". AP artists do it differ...ently: they engage their audiences to philanthropise, and then keep them WANTING MORE with all that awesome content. Many AP artists are getting hundreds of dollars a month just from reversing their thinking. And the most amazing thing is: it isn't just once, it is EVERY MONTH!! So, to help artists brainstorm how to think like this, we're doing an Artist Philanthropy Workshop 16th Sept. In this workshop our founder Sarah Grey will talk to you as an individual within the group, to brainstorm and workshop ideas for how you can leverage subscription philanthropy to mobilise your audience, stop giving away your hard work, expand your audiences and spend your time fulfilling paying philanthropists instead of trying to make one-time sales. This workshop is FREE, because we're artists too, and we're trying to change the arts funding conversation and landscape. Register here: https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/artist-philanthropy-worksho

23.01.2022 Philanthropy starts by saying "Yes!" instead of "Maybe..." to an artist. We are enabling artists to create, experiment and express themselves, without agenda or stipulation. If you like an artist, why not give them the joy and encouragement they need to step out of the grants cycle (even if it's only for a little while). Discover and philanthropise an artist from less than $3/week at www.armchairphilanthropy.com #art #myart #myartwork #coolart #funart #abstractart #makearteveryday #artsy #contemporaryart #artlife #practice #wip #workinprogress #experimentalart #visualart #artoftheday #onlineart #realism #art #artsfunding #philanthropy #armchairphilanthropy #australianart #australianartists #creatives #create #photographer #painter #musician #filmmaker

22.01.2022 Have you ever wondered "how would philanthropy work for me?" In this 40 minute workshop you'll talk to the founder of ArmchairPhilanthropy.com about different strategies you can use to leverage, inspire and motivate philanthropy of your artistic work. This is a grass-roots workshop for professional artists working for themselves 'on the front line'. A good funding strategy is a diverse one, and we will directly address how to leverage subscription philanthropy to reach a port...ion of possible philanthropists you haven't reached yet. Artists who are curious about whether subscription philanthropy could work for them are most welcome. We'll look at your individual art practice and talk in detail amongst the group about how you can inspire existing followers and audiences to shift to a subscription platform. We'll talk about what you're already doing so that others can learn and benefit from your experience, and you can learn from theirs. There will be no 'hard sell' in this nurturing workshop: we genuinely want to see artists doing the best they can for themselves. Together, we'll share our strategies, knowing that we are all in this together, and we can all "make it". About the workshop After registration we will send you a few thought-provoking questions to consider before the workshop. Artists will share their approaches so we can work together to either improve them, re-jig them, or so that others may benefit. The workshop will be held on Zoom in a collaborative discussion. You will need a suitable device, a free Zoom account, and an internet connection. About the host Sarah Grey is the founder of ArmchairPhilanthropy.com, but she's also the co-founder and principal flute of the Australian Wind Symphony. Sarah has worked on stage and in arts offices for the last 20 years after graduating with a performance degree from the Canberra School of Music. In 2019, she created AP to fill a gap in the funding landscape. Sarah is a business-minded artist who enjoys lateral thinking to achieve a polished artistic goal. This workshop is free, but places are limited. If we sell out, we will add additional sessions. #workshop #fundraising #artist #philanthropy #artsfunding #fundraising_strategies https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/artist-philanthropy-worksho

15.01.2022 This is a funny cartoon, but it touches on an issue that doesn't present to most people who are outside the arts world. The well-meaning concert-goers in this image are people many of us have experienced in real life. After spending weeks ragged trying to pull your art event together, writing press releases, taking promotional photos, giving interviews, finding funding, engaging with philanthropists, creating e-marketing like emails and ticketing pages, organising tickets, of...fering comp tickets, sorting the money for the door, finding someone to do the door, and finding funding for an affordable venue, likely working a full time job or two on top of that, and then, if time permits, at 3am actually working on the art you intend to present ... you then get criticized because your socks weren't the same shade of black. It's so frustrating that artists are constantly held to the highest levels of criticism without their work being considered in the context of a lack of funding. #rantalert! In positive news, we are running a philanthropy workshop next Wednesday night (7pm AEST) on Zoom. I encourage any artist who wishes to brainstorm how they can distil and simplify their funding practices to join us. It's free but spots are limited: https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/artist-philanthropy-worksho

08.01.2022 Now, more than ever, Australians recognise the role and immense value of culture and the arts in our communities, to bring joy, unify and build bridges between people, said Culture and the Arts Minister David Templeman. Hear, hear! It's wonderful to see a phrase like "arts and culture" rather than "arts and entertainment" - Thank you, Limelight Magazine!

05.01.2022 Artists have had it tough this year with cancelled gigs, shows, and exhibitions. To make matters worse, many artists have slipped through the cracks of interim support packages, because the very nature of being an artist - a field that requires significant self-employed unpaid development time - set up a domino effect that saw them ineligible for many of the support packages. But, we're about positive philanthropy here at AP, so if you're beginning to think about Christmas sh...opping, we encourage you to take the route of fostering Beauty and Creativity this year. You may choose to philanthropise an artist on your own behalf. That will lift the artist's spirits immensely and give them creative impetus into 2021. OR you may choose to purchase a subscription in another person's name as a gift. That means you'll be contributing to the future work of an artist on behalf of your lucky recipient, and they will also receive any philanthropy benefits directly from the artist you chose. Subscriptions start from under $3/week (billed monthly) and can be cancelled at any time. Make a difference this Christmas with a real, plastic-free, waste-free, beautiful gift of philanthropy. Why? Because art is not charity. www.armchairphilanthropy.com #philanthropy #armchairphilanthropy #christmasgift #giftideas #covid19 #australianart #australianartists #philanthropisemebaby #give #beauty #thischristmas #2021 #beautywillsavetheearth #artisnotcharity #livemusic #aussieartists #aussieband #aussiemusic #classicalmusic #fineart #australianphotographer #christmas2020

04.01.2022 Dianne Smith has been awarded a Bachelor of Fine Arts, Diploma of Education and a Graduate Diploma of Art and Design from the University of Tasmania. She enjoys the challenge of working overseas with other international artists and has undertaken recent artist residencies in Beijing, Paris and Berlin. Dianne has exhibited in many solo shows and group exhibitions. Her work is held in public and private collections throughout Australia and overseas in London, France, Berlin and... Hong Kong. HOW WILL YOUR PHILANTHROPY HELP? As a full-time artist my painting practice will benefit from philanthropy as this would enable me to focus on pursuing opportunities to gain more exposure both interstate and overseas. This support would assist with costs of shipping, marketing and gallery fees. Discover and philanthropise Dianne from just ~$3/week at https://www.armchairphilanthropy.com/painting/dianne-smith/ #artsandculture #philanthropy #philanthropisemebaby #art #supportanartist #australianartist #painting #diannesmith
