24.01.2022 With a glass of red, a comfy armchair and a MacBook connected to a JBL Flip 4 I found on buy swap and sell, I sat down to experience the new live. Tonight cutting edge jazzsters Ash Hall and Steve Harris launched the first of a series of weekly live stream events called Free Space. Exploring the sonic possibilities of NERAM gallery, the accomplished duo were accompanied by some stunning pieces from The Nightengale and the Rose series, appropriately set in front of a delicio...us canvas titled Wilder Grew Her Song. It was a minimalist sound to match a minimalist décor. The gallery’s hard walls gave the drums a sharp, industrial vibe which suited the sometimes calm, sometimes chaotic trumpet that was like catching pieces of conversation from colourful passers-by in a New York street at night. All I needed was a tobacco-stained trench coat to complete the noir whodunnit feel. All in all, It made for a outrageously pleasant Sunday afternoon. Look, there was no Bec enthusiastically pouring you a stout and asking you how your day was, no Louie greeting you with a nod, grin and a hey man what are you after, no Windred to have a chin wag with, but you know what, it was still really nice to watch some live music with you all again. Well done to Ash and Stevewhat a cool gig. And a big thanks to all the organisers including @sydneyimprovisedmusicassoc, @a___i___m___a, @neramuseum , and @uninewengland.
