25.01.2022 Armidale Rifle Club News 600 Yards 1st November 2020 Thirteen shooters turned up foe the 600 yard shoot on what was a beautiful morning. A westerly breeze ranged from 10-20km/hr making it tricky to nail the super centre, and easy to hit the 5’s. The Four fairy was also out in force. The second stage mirage caused some grief as did the ever changing light conditions, but once again there was some excellent shooting and some near misses. F Open was a 5 way battle with the usu...Continue reading

24.01.2022 700 Yards at Wallamumbi range (Nasty!)

24.01.2022 A great day out at Wallamumbi Range. 19 shooters all getting flogged by mirage!

23.01.2022 Armidale Rifle Club News 400m 18th October 2020 An overcast morning greeted 15 shooters with a light westerly wind and no mirage. Several windows presented themselves in the first stage with 4 possibles shot, with high super counts as everyone made the best of the conditions. Only Gary Cluley managed to finish off his great start to bag a double possible and win the day, taking out the Top Cock, although he was pushed by Andrew Cameron and Jock Foster. Great shooting Gaz. I...n Target Rifle, Andrew Cameron shot a 50.4 in his first stage, backing it up with a second stage 49.4 to easily win the day. David Rose made sure he was kept on his toes, shooting an excellent first stage 48.2, finishing the day on 93.4. Ruby Loosemore rounded out 3rd spot with 88.6, after an extended break from the range. In F Standard it was a battle of the titans with Bob Thrift overcoming scope issues to pilot his beloved 223 to the win. A first stage 57.3 was bettered in the second stage (57.5) to easily win the day, beating home Stuart Cleghorn (112.3) and Ian Moffatt (110.2). Great shooting Bob. Hunter Class was contested by 7 shooters as some boys crossed over and shot 2 classes. The result came down to the last shooter, with Will Model making a stunning return to the range, sweeping all before him with his 6mm Creedmoor. A pair of 59’s was enough to beat home Ben Hickey (117.8) and Tim Booth (117.8) and ice the day. It was great to see Andrew Cameron down behind a scope after years of Target rifle. F Open was as per usual very hotly contested with 3 shooters nailing first stage possibles. Gary Cluley (60.6), Matt Foster (60.7) and Jock Foster (60.8) made the best of the early conditions, with several 59’s on their heels. Gary as mentioned laid down the gauntlet to the boys with Jock Foster (119.12) just missing his second last shot to finish in second place. Tim Booth rounded out the podium on 118.10. Great shooting boys, it is awesome to see how competitive F Open has become. 21.01.2022 ARMIDALE RIFLE CLUB DRAWS A BEAD ON NEW TARGETS Armidale Rifle Club will soon boast one of the most digitally advanced shooting ranges in the region, thank...s to a $21,000 State Government grant for the purchase new electronic shooting targets. The club will acquire an additional two Hexta electronic targets, doubling its current number at the Wollomombi range. These targets are the absolute gold standard for competitive rifle shooting. They have sensors that detect the exact location where the bullet hit and relays that information wirelessly to both the shooter and scorer on small laptops. That information is then uploaded to the Hex Systems website, where progress of the shoot can be viewed in real time and be reviewed later. With four Hexta targets in play, not only will competition time be halved but it will also allow the club to conduct open prize meets which will attract people from all over the state. Using the skills of tradesmen within the club’s membership, the new targets will be installed over summer, with all materials used to retrofit the targets to the existing infrastructure to be bought locally. Congratulations to club captain Matt Foster and the committee on securing these valuable funds! 20.01.2022 2021 Shooting Calendar

18.01.2022 Armidale Rifle Club News 300 Yards 15th November 2020 Seventeen shooters turned up for a very warm morning (by Armidale standards!). With very light fish-tailing winds it looked like a day for high scores and very high super centre counts. That prediction proved correct with some sensational shooting for the morning. Six possibles, two double possibles and one probable were shot for the day, which shows how hard it has become to win the day. The winds were predominantly from ...Continue reading

17.01.2022 Christmas Shoot This Sunday is our last shoot of the year, with the winners of each class taking home a ham. Instead of the normal 1 x 15 shot stage, we will shoot the normal 2 x 10 shot stages so that the scores count towards the aggregates. Every shooter will need at least 24 rounds (as explained below). We will have a raffle with everyone involved signing the back of a target face. The "Top Cock" of the day will get one shot at the target, with the winner being the closest... name to the bullet hole. Cost will be $5 per entry with the winner to take the whole prize pool. A BBQ lunch and drinks will follow the shoot, so it would be great to see a big crowd. Thanks for your support for 2020, which has been a very difficult year. May 2021 be bigger and better, double possibles all the way!

17.01.2022 Armidale Rifle Club News 600 Yards 11th October 2020 Twelve shooters turned up for the second shoot of the weekend which was a great result for the club. Hosting 27 shooters for the weekend shows that we are on the right track. From a personal note I extend many thanks to all members who helped out over the two days, it wouldn’t have happened without your muscle. The shooters today could have been forgiven for thinking that with light winds (Starting off as westerly at 5-10km...Continue reading

16.01.2022 Armidale Rifle Club News 700 yards 8th November 2020 A very cool Easterly breeze greeted a much smaller crowd this morning. The light mist and cold wind no doubt keeping a few in bed. The weather did clear up but the shooting conditions deteriorated during the morning. The 15-20km/hour wind saw most shooters put 3-3.5 minutes on, but it was the quick drop offs and sneaky mirage that did the damage. There was plenty of head shaking as the Four Fairy was in full flight, espec...ially in the second stage. Hunter Class was a three-way race with Craig Morgan having a target on him after breaking through for his maiden win last week. Ben Hickey had other ideas, and after a few weeks out of the winners circle, he made up for it shooting a 112.3 with the second stage 57.2 being the highlight. Great shooting in tough conditions Ben. The tussle for 2nd spot was real, with Tim Booth just edging out Craig Morgan by one point. F Open had six competitors with newcomer Jack Gerdes making his way out to the range with his 6.5x47 Lapua. His first stage 55.3 set the tone for the morning as the wind gusts wreaked havoc. Matt Foster (58.4) and Jock Foster (57.3) were the best for stage 1, with multiple scores in the mid fifties following. Stage 2 again was a real tussle with wind picking up and the scores reflected that. Matt Foster shot a 55 in tough conditions to put the field under the pump. Jock Foster had it won, but a last shot 4 meant a tie with the old man. A countback revealed that Matt had flogged the youngster, although Jock claims he did it to help. Either way Matt was happy to take the win. Tim Booth rounded out a good day for the Dashers and BR’s taking 3rd spot. F Standard was a battle for one with Stuart Cleghorn the only participant, meaning he won the day easily. The shooting will tell a different story as scores were well down. Stuart don’t tell your son that there was only one competitor, just tell him you won! 08.01.2022 Armidale Rifle Club News 500 yards 25th October 2020 The threat of further showers during the morning did little to deter 15 shooters who turned up for the 500 yard shoot. Conditions at various stages throughout the morning ranged from benign to very tricky, pending the changing light conditions and wind gusts. With a westerly wind peaking at 15km/hr. most shooters had around 2-2.5minutes on for wind, but it was the light intensity which caused elevation problems, ranging fro...Continue reading

06.01.2022 Armidale Rifle Club News Internal Prize Shoot 700/600/500 Yards 22nd November 2020 Nineteen shooters turned up for our first Internal Prize Meet, which was great to see. I thank everyone for giving up their Sunday to shoot for the day, especially the two visitors from Inverell who made the early start and trek across. A massive thank you must go to Bob Thrift who made the lunches, was Range Officer for the day, allowing me to shoot, and just kept the day rolling. A big thank ...you to Simone Foster for the morning tea, it was greatly appreciated. A massive thanks also goes to those local businesses who sponsored the prizes, those being Safari World (thanks Fiona and Sharon), Hunting Haven and Grazag. A big thank you to Geoff Lancaster for his engraving skills, mate you are an artist, and we can’t wait for you to get back on the mound. We cannot do it without your support, and it was greatly appreciated. The weather was all four directions of the compass with fishtailing winds most of the day (predominantly westerly) with sneaky mirage catching almost every shooter. It was bloody hot but we finished with gusty winds and a thunderstorm, Wallamumbi certainly turned it on! The day started with 700 yards which was difficult to say the least with switching mirage. The next stage was 600 yards which was marginally better, but after lunch conditions looked benign at 500 yards but were still quite tricky. The very few possibles shot for the day was testament to how hard conditions were at stages. Having said that, there was some sensational shooting and some deserved winners. We hope everyone had a great day, and we look forward to having an OPM on the calendar next year once we get the extra Hexta targets organised. The winners are summarised as below: F Open 700 Yards 600 Yards 500 Yards Total Matt Foster 60.3 60.5 60.9 180.17 Simone Foster 57.4 58.4 58.4 173.12 Jock Foster 55.3 57.5 60.4 172.12 Tim Booth 59.5 56.0 56.1 171.6 Gary Cluley 50.1 57.3 59.6 166.10 Greg Carson 54.0 54.4 55.3 163.7 Richard Drozdowski 54.2 51.2 57.1 162.5 Jack Gerdes 53.1 53.3 53.2 159.6 F Standard 700 Yards 600 Yards 500 Yards Total Stuart Cleghorn 45.0 48.1 51.1 144.2 Hunter Class 700 Yards 600 Yards 500 Yard Total Craig Morgan 53.1 57.2 58.4 168.7 Hans Model 53.2 57.1 57.4 167.7 Ben Hickey 55.2 55.1 56.2 166.5 Toby Anderson 53.2 53.1 58.2 164.5 Jeff Pritchard 46.1 56.4 57.3 159.8 Nathan Hilton 50.1 46.1 48.1 144.3 Craig Hungerford 43.1 50.3 50.0 143.4 Target Rifle B Grade 700 yards 600 Yards 500 Yards Total Andrew Cameron 45.8 49.6 50.4 144.18 Peter Tollis 49.6 47.4 47.3 143.13 Target Rifle C Grade 700 Yards 600 Yards 500 Yards Total David Rose 41.0 44.2 48.4 133.6 Our next shoot is a Saturday night shoot and will be at 500 yards on Sunday 28th November, starting at 7.30pm. 03.01.2022 Armidale Rifle Club News 600 yards 6th December 2020 With light showers early, one could have been mistaken for thinking that it would have been a smaller crowd today, but 16 shooters arrived to be greeted by blustery westerly winds ranging from 15-30km/hr. The first stage in particular was tricky with most shooters having 4.5-5.0 minutes on for wind, but having to watch for the 1.5 minute drop offs. The second stage saw a sneaky mirage creep in when the wind dropped off. The...Continue reading

02.01.2022 Armidale Rifle Club News 300 yards 13th December 2020 Christmas Shoot The weekly weather forecast was for rain all week, so it was decided to leave it right to the last minute to make a call on the Christmas Ham shoot. Twenty three shooters decided to take a punt and were greeted with a very cold and showery morning, with waves of easterly mist rolling in periodically. After months of westerlies it was novel to have to wind the scope the other way. Most shooters had 1.5-2.0...Continue reading

02.01.2022 Great members make great clubs. Armidale Rifle Club can't thank the band of volunteers enough this morning and during the week for our first working bee for years. The range has had a full manicure, the target faces have been fixed up and the cement under the gallery has been done. We are ready to rock and roll at 600 yards tomorrow. They say shop local, and it pays big dividends. Ducats helped with the concrete on time and at a good price, thanks Tom and staff, we greatly ap...preciate your help in what was a very minor job for you. It will make a huge difference to our club. A massive thank you in particular to Jock and Becc Barnett who donated the time and expertise with the excavator to get the process started. To Greg Carson who took control of the concreting and boxing up, it wouldn't have happened without you mate. Local businessman Ken Brown has kindly donated 4 glass sliding doors to the club, which will be put to full use on our clubhouse. We can't thank you enough Ken, we would love to see you at the range when the project is finished. To Bob Thrift who just makes things happen. The new flagpoles and bases just appeared early this morning (7am if you don't mind), meaning we will have flags now at 200 yards and 350 yards to confuse us even more. Thanks to Andrew Cameron who had his tractor on hand to move some dirt, but also make sure that the cement truck could get in and out on the wet track. Finally to Darryl Stace and Simone Foster who provided morning tea, always popular with a working army! Thanks again boys you all did a magic job, see you tomorrow.
