24.01.2022 Great news! We have surpassed our goal of $52,000 for the Nauru to Canada appeal in less than 2 weeks! The application for Mohib and his family to settle in Canada has been submitted and these funds will cover the amount required to support the application. Hopefully Mohib will be off Nauru and reunited with his family in a few months. Thank you to everyone who gave to this cause. There’s an article in the Armidale Express that tells the story and gives the text of Mohib’s moving thank you message. https://www.armidaleexpress.com.au//funds-raised-for-roh/

23.01.2022 Dear Armidale, Tom Campbell and Shuku Sunzu are running a marathon to raise money for Sanctuary 42 km from Armidale Airport to Uralla and back on the 12 December. The money they raise will go towards Sanctuary’s Digital Literacy for Armidale’s Ezidi Community project. The project aims to fund a half-time Technical Officer for six months. This person will provide technical assistance to Ezidi families to purchase, set up and use computers. A lack of digital literacy was ...a problem in accessing online teaching during the Covid-19 lockdown. This project will provide necessary skills to the community not only for learning online, but also for getting information, doing online banking, paying bills, etc. To support the two young men and the Digital Literacy project, I urge you to spread the word about the 12 Dec marathon, and make a tax-deductible donation. You can do this on their GoFundMe page: https://www.gofundme.com/f/marathon-for-armidale-refugees Or on the Sanctuary Web Page: https://www.armidalesanctuaryhumanitariansettlement.com.au/

23.01.2022 Armidale Sanctuary has had the privilege of being one of the sponsors for the Porch Portraits project that was done for Refugee week. The project was conducted by Simon Scott, with the help of Waleed Alali, one of the Ezidi's in our community with a talent for photography. You can view the photos in an online gallery, with the link below. For some of the family photos, you can see their words of welcome when you click on the I (info) button in the upper right hand part of... the screen. Also below are links to radio interviews by Tadgh McMahon of SSI, who did research on the Ezidi community in Australia, and Waleed Alali (note correct spelling), the member of the Ezidi community in Armidale who helped Simon Scott with the photography. 22.01.2022 Tom Campbell and Shuku Sunzu completed their run Saturday morning in just over 4 hours. The cold and windy conditions were great for running but kept the number of supporters down. Nevertheless an enthusiastic group saw them finish and enjoyed the barbeque provided by Tom’s parents. Below is a photo of president Jeff Seigel presenting Tom and Shuku with trophies (donated by Brian Barnden). Thanks go to Brian for the trophies, to Valerie Dalton, Phlillip Boukallil and Brian ...Byrne for manning the drink stations (set up by Tom’s family), to Simon Scott for taking photos and to everyone else who helped make this a memorable and profitable event. But the biggest thanks go to Tom and Shuku. You can still donate and help fund the Ezidi Digital Connections project by going to the Sanctuary website: https://www.armidalesanctuaryhumanitariansettlement.com.au/ or making a direct deposit to the Sanctuary account: BSB 932 000 (RAB - Regional Australia Bank) Acct name: Armidale Sanctuary Humanitarian Settlement Acct no: 654999 (add S3 if transferring from another RAB account) Please give the reference as: Digital Connections Project

12.01.2022 HELP needed! As some of you know, our house is for sale and we are planning on moving interstate. For the past 2 years I have been helping one of the most vulne...rable Ezidi families in Armidale. They are devastated to learn I will be moving. If anyone is willing to give some time, both for friendship and support, to this mum (early 30s) and 4 delightful kids (5, 10, 13, 14) I am happy to introduce you and give some background info. She has had a few people who stepped into her life and then stepped out as quickly as they came so you would have to commit to an ongoing relationship. Please message me if you can help. See more
