25.01.2022 Why Doctors Often Run Late You are probably feeling a bit frustrated or angry that your Doctor is not running on time. We recognise this and regret that it does happen but ask that you be understanding, as it is a difficult problem for us to manage. Doctors may run late for several reasons:... 1. Simple problems can take much longer than you would expect, as one of our main tasks is to exclude serious disease. You may be coming in for a headache or cough, but we need to make sure it is not meningitis or pneumonia. 2. One of the most important tasks is to provide you with good preventative care and health advice and will always almost occupy part of the consultation, even if you didnt come for that. 3. Sometimes people will come in with a long list of problems. Some will need to be addressed straight away, others may be less important. Quite often the problems that you think are most important may not concern us and vice versa. 4. From time to time there may be an emergency patient who needs to see a doctor immediately in these circumstances the patient will be fitted in between appointments which delays existing appointments. Please be understanding as you may need this service one day yourself. Some ways you can help us to solve this problem: a) Please think about why you are coming, and make a list if necessary. If you have several problems PLEASE BOOK AN EXTENDED CONSULTATION. b) Please dont be upset if we ask you to make another appointment for some of the problems you have come in for. c) Please be patient and understanding when were running late we are always working as fast as we can to catch up whilst trying to be careful and thorough. d) Please make an APPOINTMENT for EACH PERSON who needs to be seen it is impossible to manage our waiting times if we have to squeeze people in.

11.01.2022 Some practical advice on the Coronavirus written by a fellow Doctor. ________________________________________________________ Hi Friends I know it can be quite overwhelming with all the information out there regarding COVID-19. It can also be quite scary. The good news is that for most people who get COVID-19 it will likely be a mild infection and they will fully recover, this includes healthy kids. What is more worrying is that for the vulnerable in our community - the elde...rly and those with other medical conditions, the disease can be quite severe and these people might require hospital care, including help breathing due to their lungs being severely affected. There is even better news right now - especially for those of us in WA, we have time to act now to slow down the spread, meaning that our health services wont be overwhelmed with sick people with COVID-19. This way, people who need help with breathing can get it, and staff can also treat people with other life threatening problems. If the system gets overwhelmed (like in Italy right now) it will affect all of us. As a GP working in remote communities with many vulnerable people, I can see the great need for us all over Australia to work together to flatten the curve - see below. Although it will be an inconvenience at times, there are simple things you can do to help to protect yourself, your loved ones and those who are vulnerable: Avoid hand shaking - try a wave, elbow tap or wink (if appropriate ) Wash your hands frequently - soap and water will work just fine Avoid touching your face If you are sick, stay home. Follow health department advice for testing - call 1800 020 080 for advice. If you need to see a doctor, call your GP ahead - you will likely be able to have a consult over the phone. Avoid unnecessary travel overseas, and consider if you need to travel interstate Avoid mass gatherings, and when in public try and practice social distancing (not getting up too close to too many people) Be kind to those around you - only take what you need & help family and friends (without breaking isolation measures if they are in place) The sooner we do these things, the bigger difference we can make to slowing the spread down and getting back to normal.
