So many variables to play with to make this exercise more challenging for the individual. I've listed a few in this video for Bowls Victoria. 18.01.2022 PAINKILLERS CAN MAKE YOUR PAIN WORSE! . Great read on ABC news regarding the negative effects long-term use of painkillers and opioids can have on persistent and chronic pain. Whilst they can be beneficial and extremely helpful in acute painful episodes, long-term use can cause your body and brain to become even more sensitive to movement, which in turn makes your pain worse - it's a vicious cycle!... If you've been on painkillers for a long time, speak to your GP about having a medication review. It's definitely no easy task reducing your dependence on them, but your body and brain will thank you for it! Instead of painkillers, trying conservative treatment approaches such as education and understanding your pain, what its triggers are and a gradual increase in exercise, movement and physical activity can help promote more sustainable, long-term improvements to your pain! Give Armstrong Creek Osteopathy a call or book online to learn more about your pain or what you can do to help yourself! https://www.abc.net.au//long-term-use-of-opioids-/12356984

16.01.2022 Does your allied health professional practice best-practice care? . A recent systematic review in the esteemed BJSM identified 11 recommendations for high-quality musculoskeletal care. . They include:... - Patient-centred care - Screen for red flag conditions - Assess psychosocial factors - Use imaging selectively - Undertake a physical examination - Monitor progress - Provide Education - Address exercise/activity - Use manual therapy as an adjunct to other treatments - Offer high quality non-surgical cafe prior to surgery - Keep patients at work . If your allied health professional isn’t ticking these boxes, are you getting the best care you could be? . Give us a call or book online to be looked after comprehensively! See more
15.01.2022 PREVENT BACK PAIN?!! . Great article on the ABC website about helping you prevent back pain on long car and plane trips. . 15.01.2022 CLINIC SPACE . Gave the clinic space a bit of a spruce up during the week. Loving the addition of the @noigroup educational posters to use as teaching tools and to help facilitate discussion on better pain beliefs. . Note the many cleaning products, personal protective equipment and hygiene products we are using to help keep our community safe and limit the potential spread of COVID-19.... . We are open with the strictest cleaning standards and following all government health department advice. @ Armstrong Creek Osteopathy See more
15.01.2022 SHOULDER SERIES - External Rotation with theraband . Once we’ve regained an adequate amount of motion in the shoulder, it’s time to start to build in some load. . Using a theraband attached to your door handle is a great, cheap tool to add in shoulder strengthening exercises.... . This exercise loads the back of the shoulder and rotator cuff. We can vary the reps, sets, resistance and time spent under tension to individualise the exercise to your pain, injury or discomfort. . Give us a call or book online to get your shoulders stronger! #osteopathy #osteo #exerciserehabilitation #armstrongcreek #armstrongcreekosteopathy #warralily See more
14.01.2022 Do you think the scalpel is the superior way to fix your shoulder pain? - Maybe think again! (long read) - A recent study published in the esteemed BJSM compared the effects of subacromial decompression surgery (removing the subacromial bursa, shaving back bits of bone in the shoulder joint), a diagnostic arthroscope (no surgical intervention was performed at all, the shoulder joint was just 'opened up' and inspected) and exercise therapy. ... - They were tracking and measuring pain at rest and pain on arm activity. - The results? No significant differences between surgery & the diagnostic 'look' at the shoulder joint, and no significant difference between surgery and exercise therapy at 3, 6, 12 months and 2 & 5 year follow up for pain at rest and pain on arm activity. - So what can we take from this? Time and time again, surgical interventions are proving to be less effective than we first thought. Add in the risk of infection, the cost, time off work, stress and other potential complications and suddenly the surgery is looking less inviting. - Surgery can still be beneficial for some people at some times, but maybe having a good 'crack' at exercise based rehabilitation (which is pretty safe!) before considering more extreme interventions might be a good place to start. - Are you weighing up your options? Give Armstrong Creek Osteopathy a call or DM me to help you make an informed decision on your shoulder health. See more
12.01.2022 COVID-19 Update! . We have completed modules to update us on the latest information of the novel coronavirus and how to prevent its spread. As a reminder, we are still open for business until advised otherwise from state or federal authorities. We have updated our cleaning and hygiene practices and policies. . Most cases of COVID-19 have been imported meaning they have come from overseas. The virus also spreads by droplet transmission, and cannot infiltrate your skin. You mus...t breathe or inhale the virus to get infected. . Things we are putting in place at Armstrong Creek Osteo: - handwashing following WHO guidelines (already doing previously) - new linen every patient (we have always done this) - removed magazines from waiting rooms - no more table covers, cleaning tables, surfaces, door handles between every patient . Please call if you have any questions regarding any upcoming appointments. See more
11.01.2022 Which Exercise is the Best for Low Back Pain?! . I hear it all the time, which exercise is the best exercise for low back pain? . A recent study published in the BJSM compared different types of exercise for chronic low back pain. Whilst the quality of the evidence is low, we can still draw take some direction from their findings.... . The results indicate that there is low quality evidence that Pilates can have a positive effect on chronic low back pain, resistance & stabilisation/control exercises can have a positive effect on physical function and resistance and aerobic exercise can have a positive effect on mental health. . This mixed, low quality finding indicates that there is no one type of exercise that is best for treating chronic low back pain. If anything it indicates that a varied and diverse active approach is required, depending on what you want to achieve, what you have access to, what areas of your body could be stronger or less sensitive and what you enjoy. . Do you like classes doing classes with friends and want to work on your abdominal, trunk and lower extremity strength? Do Pilates! Do you only have 30mins after work, access to no gym equipment and want to get ‘fitter?’ Go for a walk or a run! Do you enjoy working out in the gym and lifting weights around? Do resistance exercise! . So in short, the best type of exercise for low back pain is the type that you enjoy, that you will complete, that fits into your lifestyle, that helps you towards your goals and most importantly, is individualised to YOU! . DM me or visit armstrongcreekosteopathy.com.au to get an individualised approach to your musculoskeletal pain. See more
