21.01.2022 As you are aware, there has been a surge of new coronavirus cases in the last few weeks in Melbourne, and some new cases in Geelong this week. The chief medical officer is suggesting mask wearing when you cannot social distance, or in higher risk areas, such as when visiting the GP. As such we will be asking all patients to PLEASE WEAR YOUR OWN FACEMASK WHEN ATTENDING THE PRACTICE. This is for the protection of our staff, and you. We understand that these are trying times, f...rustrating and inconvenient in many ways. But we ask that you please respect our efforts to provide medical care in a safe way. We again encourage you to look after yourself and your vulnerable community members. We will continue to be here for you. Please take care and thank you for your cooperation

11.01.2022 Air Quality Advice The Geelong region is experiencing a smoke haze as a consequence of the fires. The Environment Protection Authority Victoria has curren...tly listed the air quality in Geelong as Very Poor. Poor air quality is forecast for the duration of the day and possibly into tomorrow. The EPA says people should stay indoors where possible and keep windows and doors shut, switch air-conditioners to recirculate, and keep pets indoors. 10.01.2022 22nd to 28th July - National Pain Week There are three main categories of pain; acute, chronic and cancer pain. Acute pain lasts for a short time and occurs following surgery or trauma or other condition. It acts as a warning to the body to seek help. Although it usually improves as the body heals, in some cases, it may not.... Chronic pain lasts beyond the time expected for healing following surgery, trauma or other condition. It can also exist without a clear reason at all. Although chronic pain can be a symptom of other disease, it can also be a disease in its own right, characterised by changes within the central nervous system. Cancer pain can occur in patients with early stage and advanced disease, and in cancer survivors as a severe and debilitating side-effect of treatment. To find out more visit, http://www.nationalpainweek.org.au/ or see your GP

06.01.2022 WORLD COPD DAY- 18th Nov 2020 https://armstronghealth.com.au/world-copd-day/

05.01.2022 For the first time ever, the world has committed to eliminate a cancer: YOU HEARD IT RIGHT National Cervical Cancer Awareness Week 16 Nov 2020 to 22 Nov 2020 A ...cervical cancer-free future: First-ever global commitment to eliminate cancer. This is huge. Yes, we are trying to work towards a possible cervical cancer-free future. No woman should die from cervical cancer. This year's cervical cancer theme is " Time to catch-up". Landmarks all over the world including Australia will be illuminated in the cervical teal to show their support for National Cervical Cancer Awareness Week 2020! Cervical cancer is a preventable disease. It is also curable if detected early and adequately treated. Yet it is the fourth most common cancer among women globally. Without taking additional action, the annual number of new cases of cervical cancer is expected to increase from 570 000 to 700 000 between 2018 and 2030, while the annual number of deaths is projected to rise from 311 000 to 400 000. In low- and middle-income countries, its incidence is nearly twice as high and its death rates three times as high as those in high-income countries. Today, WHO launched a Global Strategy to Accelerate the Elimination of Cervical Cancer. It outlined three key steps: vaccination, screening, and treatment. Successful implementation of all three could reduce more than 40% of new cases of the disease and 5 million related deaths by 2050. Today’s development represents a historic milestone because it marks the first time that 194 countries commit to eliminating cancer - following the adoption of a resolution at this year’s World Health Assembly. Meeting the following targets by 2030 will place all countries on the path toward elimination: 90% of girls fully vaccinated with the HPV vaccine by 15 years of age 70% of women screened using a high-performance test by age 35 and again by 45 90% of women identified with cervical disease receive treatment (90% of women with pre-cancer treated and 90% of women with invasive cancer managed). So, let's play our little part in this historic journey of completely eliminating cervical cancer. Let's get over our little discomfort & embarrassment and be up to date with our cervical screening. #cervicalcancer #cervicalcancerawareness #cancer #cancerwarrior
