14.01.2022 During recent renovations at the Museum, more historic graffiti has been brought to light. These hand carvings were made by soldiers of various British Regiments during the mid 1800's during their "stay" in the military prison. We plan to preserve the carvings to make them visible for future generations.

06.01.2022 Tasmania Medals Open House The Army Museum of Tasmania holds the medals awarded to many hundreds of Tasmanians who have served both Tasmania and Australia for over 100 years. The collection includes those of Tasmanians who have served with the Tasmanian colonial forces, and Australian armed services dating back to the British regiments who administered the colony.... Previously, the Museum was only able to display a small part of this collection because of the lack of secure, readily accessible display furniture and space. With the valuable assistance of a grant from the Tasmanian Community Fund, Tasmanian Medals Open House was created with the installation of secure cabinets. This has allowed room for all the medals that were on hand to be housed securely, with room for more donations as required. The Tasmanian Medal Open House has enabled unencumbered family and community access to all the medals awarded to Tasmanians and held by the Museum whenever the Army Museum is open. Biographies of each medal recipient is accessible via an interactive console.

05.01.2022 On the sad passing of Lloyd Harding, last surviving member of the 2/40th Battalion who served in Sparrow Force. Captured in Febuary 1942 in West Timor, they spent the rest of the war trying to survive in the brutal Japanese POW camps. Lloyd was interviewed on his life for the museum in 2017, with the full audio available on our website. (scroll down to Oral Histories) https://armymuseumtasmania.org.au/collections/
