18.01.2022 Yummy ! Dwayne Wauchope Junior recently had a Pipi or two at Arnhem Land Coastal Camp Commonly known as pipi in the eastern states or the Goolwa cockle or Coorong cockle in South Australia; in south-eastern Queensland; and also known as eugarie or (y)ugari, a borrowing from the local Yugambeh and Ugarapul languages.... They are a small, edible saltwater clam or marine bivalve mollusc of the family Donacidae, endemic to Australia. Did you know ! They live on high-energy beaches, the juveniles in the inter tidal zone and the adults in the sub tidal zone and use a strong foot to burrow into the sand to an average depth of 100 mm (3.9 inches) feeding by filtering phytoplankton from the water. They mature at around one year of age and live from four to five years, reaching a maximum size of 80 mm (3.1 in). Have you had your Pipi experience ?

18.01.2022 ARNHEM’S MOST PRECIOUS The Timor Pony is a beautiful, strong and agile pony with a quiet and willing temperament. If you are LUCKY you will see them running wild through the natural bush of Cobourg Peninsula on the way to Arnhem Land Coastal Camp. ... The ponies stand 10 to 12 hands high (40 to 48 inches (102 to 122 cm)), and are usually brown, black and bay, but there are a few grey. 13.01.2022 WING IN YOUR WANG The Trepang otherwise known as the Sea Cucumber / or Beche de Mer in French forms large herds that move across the ocean bed in hunt for food (plankton); and can be seen on low tide at Arnhem Land Coatal Camp. These beautiful creatures serve a useful role in the marine ecosystem as they help recycle nutrients, and help break down organic matter. ... Did you know the word ‘Marege’ was the Makassan name for Arnhem Land (meaning Wild Country) and despite several shipwrecks and thousands of voyages the last Makassan Treepanger to visit Australia lived well into the 20th century (Daeng Rangka). Today this marine invertebrate is still valued by Chinese communities for its jelly like texture, its flavour enhancing properties; and as stimulant and aphrodisiac.
