25.01.2022 It's almost as if we have had a storm the afternoon before every single Rural Potters Christmas Fair EVER . Those plastic drop sheets come in handy for so many things, definitely not single use around here. There might be a few puddles but we're all used to that aren't we

24.01.2022 For the person who rang yesterday morning chasing Weeping Ti Tree, we have a few biggish ones! The babies are still a couple of weeks away but these ones are good to go

23.01.2022 And that was Christmas! We actually have some blue sky here today, which is a nice change at least for a little bit, we will all be keen to have the rain back again though I'm sure . For those of you new to monsoon conditions, or in a new house or property, now is a great time to check out how your garden drains. Whilst many Darwin region soils are porous and drain well (sometimes too well), some areas will hold more water than others, and when you get the type of rain we ...do, a little bit of 'bogginess' can go a long way. So take the appropriate precautions and go and do a bit of poking about to see how your plants and soil are faring. We do this because some plants cope better with wet feet than others and knowing your ground and soil conditions makes it a lot easier to choose the right plant for the right spot. Just like us, some plants prefer to laze around in the shade in a pool of water, some are better in a bright dry spot with an occasional dip, some of us hate the thought of being even a bit damp or the sun touching us, and so on and so forth. Once you know your land, your can make more informed choices about the plants you put in it. And for those of you who don't need to do any of that and/or are still in a food coma and just don't wanna, you can look at the pretty pictures

22.01.2022 Afternoon everyone! Here is some random foliage inspiration for you on this very warm humid day. If you are in the garden remember to stay hydrated, and take a siesta about now and wait for the late afternoon to continue your gardening action. Maybe indulge in a beverage and afternoon snack to get your energy up in the meantime (careful of the beer temptation though or you might demotivate yourself right into the pool). . . . #tropicalcolours #foliage #siesta #afternoonbeerscanbedangerous

22.01.2022 Apparently the thunder is so scary my feet require protecting by not one but two dogs . . . . #darwinstorms #dogs #nurserydog #patchandgeorgethedoggobodyguards

20.01.2022 Anyone want to take a punt on how long today's sign is going to last? I'm going with 3 hours based on yesterday #wetseason #monsooniscoming #weloveit

20.01.2022 And there's always a few early birds

19.01.2022 Well it's definitely a build up day today! Even the birds are hiding in the shade . While we have the birds front and centre, we have a small favour to ask. We are becoming more and more of a refuge for wildlife here at the nursery, and unfortunately we are finding we have to deliver more and more of that wildlife to local vets and carers. So we would appreciate if everyone could leave their dogs at home rather than bringing them to the nursery. We know it is great taking the family pets out for the day, but we have had a few incidents with strays/feral dogs, plus some dingos spotted recently, and it would be in the best interests of everyone to minimise the chances of issues. Thanks everyone and enjoy the rest of the pretty

19.01.2022 We have had a lot of calls/messages/emails asking if we do gift vouchers, so for those of you who haven't asked yet, we do! Whatever amount you like, and we can either email you a copy or keep it here for pick up. So for all those last minute gifts, or long distance family who have missed the post cut off, let us know what you need or share this post and drop a not so subtle hint Also we are still delivering, and with a bit of weather around the 'lift heavy things and don't ask too many questions' people are looking for dry jobs, so last minute orders are fine by them #easypresentfortheplantobsessed #giftideas #tropicalplants #darwinplants #monsoon #merrychristmas #giftvouchersareawesome #plantdeliveries

18.01.2022 Merry Christmas everyone! I couldn't resist this Costus flower yesterday, these guys scream Christmas for me, the colours are pretty much perfect As per usual, the nursery will be closed on Christmas Day, and we will trade our usual 8 - 5 every other day over the Christmas period, keep reading for our usual please don't come in on Christmas Day message (yes it has happened, no we didn't appreciate the business and no we didn't yell at them.... much ) We enjoy our custom...ers here, and we do like to help out with those last minute gifts. However, as it has happened in the past, this is our gentle reminder to please resist the temptation to 'drop in' on Christmas day to grab that gift you forgot for the Mother In Law, Great Uncle Frank or Third Cousin George. By all means tell them they have a gift of their choosing waiting to be picked up and come past on Boxing Day to pay for it. We will play along for you, and we highly recommend the phrase 'there were so many amazing plants, we just couldn't decide for you!' See more

18.01.2022 Looks like this photo is going to get a work out this wet season . The Telstra outage will apparently be rectified Monday the 21st so until then we are diverted to mobile. So far this morning the mobile has dropped 3 calls and failed to ring a few times more than that, soooo we are filled with confidence . Long story short we are trying but feel free to send a message or email if you can't get through #phoneoutage #ruralliving #atleasttheinternetworks

14.01.2022 It's been a long time since we had live music at the nursery, can't wait!

12.01.2022 Forgot a couple of newbies the other day! We have a lot of pots, statue, lanterns, birdbaths and ponds on backorder so, if you don't find just what you're looking for when you come in, feel free to ask as the perfect thing might be on the way

11.01.2022 Well this pretty much makes up for missing out on the Darwin Festival sponsor party last night, thanks to a rush trip to the lovely Dr Modak at Greenhouse Medical for an eye related incident. . In case anyone is wondering, having 'something organic' removed from your eye leaves you with swelling and an unearned hangover . . .... . @outtaluckcoffee #eyesareimportant #humptydoocoffee #breakfastpie See more

10.01.2022 We've had a little bit of everything this week, long distance orders for gifts to leave on doorsteps, cleaning up has started for the pottery fair, trade reps visiting because they can now, pallets of pots arriving and madly propagating all the things we have been putting off until the humidity kicks in . So with that in mind, here are some pics of what is going on around here, there is a bit of inspiration, a bit of pretty, and how awesome is Amanda for organising a surprise gift for her friend! **We will be unpacking the pallets of pots in the morning, so don't come too early if you want to see what is hiding in that lot

08.01.2022 Good morning world! It's an early one today thanks to the ABC broadcasting gardening from Alice, tune in now if you like to listen

07.01.2022 On behalf of the proud parents of these two dive bombers in training, and the not so bright wallabies who have been launching sneak attacks on cars coming down the road, we would like to request everyone take their time driving in to the nursery and keep a careful eye out for the less road savvy wildlife we seem to have in abundance at the moment. And with that done, the rest of the pictures are just some weekend pretty

07.01.2022 We are not exceptional with dates around here, so it was strange to realise today that the last plant for this garden went in on a significant date. This garden has been done in a quintessentially Kerry way, that is, it will now be left alone for as long as it takes Sandra to get the shits and say 'will someone mulch that f#+&*?g garden please?!' Thanks to Darwin Plants for some extra plants we were short on, and Rural Garden Supplies for some other essentials.

06.01.2022 We have had a piece of jewellery handed in by an eagle eyed customer. The clasp appears to have come loose so has probably fallen off as someone was wandering, so if you are down a piece of jewellery and have been in the nursery fairly recently, give us a call and we may be able to reunite you with your piece.

05.01.2022 Quick reminder for all the Rural Potters fans out there, this is what you will find if you come Saturday! The Christmas Fair is on SUNDAY only, anyone trying to buy pottery tomorrow is going to have to console themselves with a plant and/or a coffee and come back on Sunday

04.01.2022 Some of us have escaped for a little (delayed from April last year for some unknown reason ), so today we have photos from the archives! Before you ask, no we are not anywhere we will need to quarantine for (not yet anyway), and yes we will attempt to do some pretty for you from the various places. While we are down a couple of people, please be patient and bear in mind that you are going to get far quicker responses from picking up the phone than messaging social media, ...or even better, jump in the car and pop in as that is the absolute easiest way to find out what we have in stock! Also we all know what technology is like this time of year soooo Also Outta Luck Coffee is trading wet season hours now with the lovely Kida so pop in and see her on Saturday and Sunday between 10 and 2 to see what awesomeness she has up her sleeve. #darwinplants #holidayswoohoo #wetseason #archivephoto

04.01.2022 I knew there was something missing this morning, turns out it was the dulcet tones of our phone! We, and every other business in Humpty Doo by the sound of it, are experiencing a Telstra outage this morning, so if you need us your best bet is email or message us on social media . Then we will wait to see how long that takes to go out in sympathy In the meantime I will be Outta Luck Coffee with my feet up, not really but I can dream ... #phoneoutage #wetseasonhasstruckagain #ruralliving #atleasttheinternetworks

03.01.2022 Day 1, 2 and 3 of a Browneopsis foliar bud. It's an amazing process and it's probably the first time we have managed to capture the weirdness of that first opening. We don't have any real stock of these at the moment, but we do have a nice size one we 'found' in the shade house. So Karin McGrath if you are still on the hunt for one to replace the one that didn't make it, give us a call

02.01.2022 No one will admit to planting this Gmelina and we all hate it and have tried to kill it for years, BUT every year it fruits and these cockatoos spend weeks screeching at each other and hurling the seeds at the ground under it. So I guess even though it's a horrible tree we all hate and it's a weed, it still has an upside . . . .... #blackcockatoo #noisybirds #gmelina #weednotthetypeyousmoke See more

01.01.2022 Sandra has been busy this week, and judging by the toasty vibes coming off the kiln there's more 'cooking' . . Also if you're coming down on Sunday Outta Luck Coffee will be open, as well as the freebies from the Rural Potters, so treat yourself to a biccie then maybe bypass the instant and get yourself a coffee with the man with the machine. He does a pretty awesome cold brew too (tea and coffee), not to mention pies, sausage rolls and the brownies are droolworthy. Rural Potters Pottery #ruralpotters #christmas2020 #humptydoocoffee
