04.01.2022 Spring has arrived and so has hay fever for some people.... Hay fever is generally caused by airborne pollen or spores that are released during the spring and summer months. Stress or feeling run down may also be a contributing factor. The symptoms are similar to those of a common cold - the eyes, throat and mucous membranes lining the nose are generally effected, resulting in sore eyes, headache, sneezing and a blocked or runny nose.... How can aromatherapy help? A regular massage with Chamomile, Lavender and Rose can be beneficial and may help to decrease the frequency or severity of an attack. Apply the same oils to a tissue and inhale throughout the day, additionally use in a room vaporiser. For inflamed mucous membranes in the nose, mix 2 to 3 drops (in total) of rose, chamomile, and/ or lavender with 1 tsp/ 5mls of petroleum jelly. Apply a small amount to the nostrils 2-3 times a day. Cut down on milk and other dairy products. High intake of Vitamin C and garlic can control the severity of the attack. Eating local honey can act as a preventative in some cases.
