24.01.2022 When my daughter was six-months-old I found out that one of my kidneys was riddled with marble size stones and the other kidney was not functioning. Various operations including the removal of one kidney was the starting point of me deciding to get my shit together and actually start concentrating on my health. I needed this remaining kidney to last me!! I had always gone to the gym. I spent my first pay as an 18-year-old to join a gym called Muscles and Cu...rves, and so began my lifelong love affair with lifting weights. But now I needed to concentrate on the inside. I had the hardest and most stressful seven years of my life during the afore mentioned kidney issue time. Running a brand-new business whilst studying a university degree while my son was two and my daughter was six months old. At UNI I would have to go to my car and express breast milk for next time I was there! During my 6.5 years at UNI I had to complete six practicums that each lasted over three weeks and sorting out the logistics of my children during that period was difficult to say the least! I was so run down I literally had a cough and cold for six months. Imagine that now!? I would be getting a COVID test a week! I revisited naturopaths, rediscovered yoga and personal development books and went back to Chinese therapy. But I also needed to slow down. Thankfully uni eventually finished, and the kids got a bit older, so I could do what I needed to do. Meditation, yoga, exercise, eating more plants and less meat and using essential oils as medicine have all allowed me to come a long way. But not everyone needs to be hit with a brick like me to start improving their health. Only if you've been living under a rock over the last couple of years could you have missed the rise of meditation, mindfulness, preventative medicine, and many other wellness trends going mainstream. 24.01.2022 In this fast paced world it is too frequently the case that people accept what society, family members and the authorities, whom nobody ever seems to question, believe regarding how to live their lives. And yet, the happiest people I know have been those who have accepted the primary responsibility for their own spiritual and physical well-being - those who have inner strength, courage, determination, common sense and faith in the process of creating more balanced and satisf...ying lives for themselves. 24.01.2022 'Shamatha' is a Sanskrit term that means tranquility of the mind. In order to get that, we must stop focusing on external things and be mindful of what we are doing at the present time. I have arrived. I am home. In the here and in the now. I am solid, I am free,... 23.01.2022 Whether you’re keeping a journal or writing as a meditation, it’s the same thing. What’s important is you’re having a relationship with your mind - Natalie Goldberg Effective and meaningful journaling is a practice that can help us meet our goals and improve our quality of life. How so?... Journaling requires the application of the analytical, rational left side of the brain; while your left hemisphere is occupied, your right hemisphere (the creative, touchy-feely side) is given the freedom to wander and play (Grothaus, 2015)! Allowing your creativity to flourish and expand can be cathartic and make a big difference in your daily well-being. Overall, journaling/expressive writing has been found to: * Boost your mood/affect; * Enhance your sense of well-being; * Reduce symptoms of depression before an important event (like an exam); * Reduce intrusion and avoidance symptoms post-trauma; * Improve your working memory (Baikie & Wilhelm, 2005). In particular, journaling can be especially helpful for those with PTSD or a history of trauma. Even if we do not have a bad experience to work through, journaling can make us more aware and self-aware to help us detect sneaky, unhealthy patterns in our thoughts and behaviors. It allows us to take more control over our lives and puts things in perspective. Further, it can help us shift from a negative mindset to a more positive one, especially about ourselves (Robinson, 2017). . . . #journal #journaling #therapeutic #meditation #yoga #yogateachers #mentalhealth #families #lovelocalmacarthur #chooselove #choices #proactivehealth #lovethedilly #mobility #exercise #brain #bekindtoyourself #thenurturingcollective #love #happy #mumlife #youvegotthis #psychology #mindset #livelaughlove #gratitude #community #joyinthejourney #abundance #positivity See more

14.01.2022 During most of our lives, our minds are engaged in a continuous internal dialogue in which the meaning and emotional associations of one thought trigger the next. We hear a snippet of music and suddenly we’re thinking about the first time we heard that song and the associations. Then we are thinking of the ‘to do’ list (which is never ending), making dinner and if we have all the ingredients, taking the kids to their extracurricular activities and thinking about last nights c...onversation with someone. Our brains are never quiet, even when we are asleep. Meditation is one of the best tools we have to quieten the mind, counter the brain’s negativity bias, release accumulated stress, foster positive experiences and intentions, and enjoy the peace of present moment awareness. A large body of research has established that having a regular meditation practice produces tangible benefits for mental and physical health, including: Decreased blood pressure and hypertension Lowered cholesterol levels Reduced production of stress hormones, including cortisol and adrenaline More efficient oxygen use by the body Increased production of the anti-aging hormone DHEA Improved immune function Decreased anxiety, depression, and insomnia . . . #meditation #yoga #yogateachers #mentalhealth #families #lovelocalmacarthur #chooselove #choices #proactivehealth #lovethedilly #mobility #exercise #brain #bekindtoyourbody #thenurturingcollective #love #happy #psychology #mindset #livelaughlove #gratitude #community #joyinthejourney #abundance #imarocketlady See more

14.01.2022 The revival of aromatherapy began in the late 1920's with a French chemist named Rene-Maurice Gattefosse. It was he who coined the term aromatherapy. After various experiments, he was unexpectedly impressed by the extraordinary healing effectiveness of lavender when, after burning his hand in a laboratory explosion, he immediately immersed his hand in pure lavender oil. The hand not only healed within a few hours but it did so without infection or scarring. Lavender is first ...aid in a bottle! Other benefits include: * Relief from head tension * Promotes sleep * Calming to the nervous system NOTE: All essential oils are not equal. Please know this. Most oils on the market are adulterated and filled with synthetics. There is only a handful of brands that are pure. Do not buy cheap crap because you will be doing more harm than good and you will not see ANY benefits. If you would like a sample of 100% pure lavender essential oil, or want to jump straight in and purchase your own, send me a message or get it touch vis the links in my Bio. . . . #lavender #thenurturingcollective #essentialoils #bekindtoyourbody #healthinyourhands #planthealth #naturessolutions #wellbeing #lovelocalmacarthur #selfcare #holistichealth #plantsforhealth #proactivehealth #aromatherapy #livelaughlove #gratitude #lovethedilly #community #love #joyinthejourney #abundance #positivity #yoga #meditation #imarocketlady #happy See more

12.01.2022 Spot the Ginger! In Chinese cooking, Ginger is the most common Chinese herb for seasoning. It is usually used along with garlic in stir-fried dishes, soups, and sauces. In Chinese medicinal cuisine ( shiliao /shrr-lyaoww/ 'food therapy') it is considered a hot, high-Yang, herb. ... I put it in my juicing so I would like to start growing it at home. Medicinal Benefits My Chinese Herbalist recommends it for me because it helps balance the qi and the body fluids - so it helps people to stay healthy and recover from stress. It is also used to help neutralize any harmful effects of other ingredients in the food or medical concoctions, so it is used heavily in Chinese medicine. It strengthens the immune system, helps people heal faster, and helps heal or prevent respiratory or circulation problems. It helps prevent cancer and has strong anti-inflammatory properties. Do you add Ginger to your diet? Or do you grow it? . . . #herbs #ginger #chinesemedicine #gardening #organicgardening #wholefood #paddocktoplate #plantbased #plantpower #permaculture #thenurturingcollective #wegrowaustralia #environmental #bekindtoyourself #lovethedilly #sustainability #vegegarden #selfsufficient #goodforyou #eatlessmeat #eatmoreplants #growyourown #orchard #gardenbeds #lovelocalmacarthur #wollondillylife #livelovelaugh #naturalmedicine See more

12.01.2022 Do you do dry body brushing? Dry brushing is a an Ayurvedic medicine that has been around for centuries. It’s believed to have many health benefits. 08.01.2022 Animals have the innate ability to self-medicate themselves, based on instinct. They choose specific plants when needed to maintain health. Like a dog who seeks out grass for fibre or nutrition of if they feel unwell, the animal can choose their own oil, and nothing is forced in them. They should be allowed to smell each oil before each application. They approve or disapprove when we show them the oil, usually on the back of our hand or from the lid of the bottle. If the anim...al wants it, they will continue to smell it, lick it or rub their face on it (keep clear of the eyes). If they disapprove of the oil, they will usually back away or turn their head away. This reduces the likelihood of an adverse reaction. Some essential oils can also be toxic to cats as their liver has a limited capacity to metabolise oils. It is safer to use hydrosols with cats. Got a question? 04.01.2022 This is a DAHLIA flower. Not only is it beautiful and great at attracting beneficial insects to the garden, but it’s edible too. It is the member of Asteraceae family which also includes daisy, sunflower, zinnia and chrysanthemum. It was once an important root crop and medicinal plant among the pre-Columbian Indians of central Mexico, Yucatan and Guatemala. Its roots were valued both for the nutritious inulin stored inside them and for th...e antibiotic compounds concentrated in the skin of the tubers.
