24.01.2022 Speaker Spotlight- Michael Isted is a trained phytotherapist (BSc Hons), aromatherapist and nutritionist who started up his company The Herball in 2013. Michael set up The Herball as a portal to promote and celebrate the many ways in which we can integrate plants and plant preparations to invigorate and enrich our lives. Michael distils in traditional copper and extracts plants with C02, he also works closely with a number of small independent organic growers and plant worker...s in the UK, Europe & India to source, produce and sell authentic, artisanal plant-based products, such as infusions, hydrosols, spices, extracts, and oils. Michael frequently runs workshops across the globe teaching plant therapeutics while also consulting, creating and formulating botanical drinks for brands, cafes, bars, restaurants and spas. He is also currently in the process of launching new Herball concepts across Europe, North America and the Middle East. Michael has also just written and published The Herballs Guide to Botanical Drinks a book which reflects a very modern take on an ancient practice, revealing the history and processes of making botanical drinks with herbs & plant extracts.

23.01.2022 Speaker Spotlight - The aromatherapist and scientific research. Scientific research, especially clinical evidence, has become a prominent item in the media and popular press. Even if you are not interested in the area, you may still be asked questions by clients, or by their physicians. In this session, we will walk through some current papers to see what all the fuss is about. What is there of value to aromatherapy? How can we sort the good evidence from the not-so-good an...d the downright spurious? Learn how to read and evaluate scientific research. Research may provide useful information regarding dosage, effective combinations of essential oils and new treatments. In this presentation we will walk through some scientific research and discuss simple ways to evaluate them ( good and bad). As a practicing aromatherapist, you may not need to justify the oils you use, but you may sometimes need to answer a client's questions or respond to governmental criticisms.

The purpose of this presentation is to help us understand the relationship our ancestors have had with aromatic plants, essential oils and scent. I believe this will help us to appreciate the framework in which contemporary aromatherapy has developed. We will explore the cultural role of scent throughout history and why many traditional and ancient cultures considered scent important. We examine why scent was considered sacred and deeply connected with our spiritual practices. We will explore how terpene compounds found in essential oils can affect the human brain and elicit entheogenic effects. We discuss traditional views of the role of scent in health and disease and learn how the extraction process of essential oils developed in the Middle Ages laid the foundation for modern medicine, perfumery and aromatherapy"

01.01.2022 Speaker Spotlight-Madeleine is founder, chair and principal teacher of Kicozo International, Knowledge Institute for Integrative & Complementary (Nursing) Care Madeleine is a former RN. As a nurse, she gained a passion for a more holistic approach. This lead to her studies into complementary therapies in addition to existing care. After leaving the hospital Madeleine had a private practice for many years, and gradually started training nurses and health care professionals in... complementary nursing care techniques as well. Now, over 20 years later, she is a highly respected expert and world renowned educator in Clinical Aromatherapy (AromaCare), AquaCare and other complementary therapies, specialised in the care for the frailest patients and elderly, in oncology, in palliative and end of life care. Madeleine is accredited by the Board of Nursings Quality Registry, and a member and adviser to the Dutch Nurses Society and Palliactief (NL), as well as being a member of the American Holistic Nurse Association, NAHA, and other professional organisations. She feels very passionate about adding quality of life and dying to patients and helps health care professionals to achieve that by offering them safe and science based tools to add to their tool kit with the help of natural aromatics, touch, relaxation and AquaCare techniques for optimum comfort and care. She is also the chairperson of De Levensboom Foundation which is a registered charity in palliative care that supports vulnerable patients by providing nurses, hospitals, aged care facilities and hospices in several ways. Her work and generosity is highly valued and regarded in health care throughout the Netherlands and beyond. She was recently commended by Her Excellency the President of Malta for her support to the National Maltese Cancer Fund. Madeleine is the author of two highly acclaimed books: Complementary Nursing in End of Life Care (2015), and CO2 Extracts in Aromatherapy, 50+ Extracts for Clinical Applications (2018). Madeleine teaches in Kicozos campus in The Netherlands where she heads a team of tutors, as well as its branch in Hong Kong, and travels the world to train nurses and health care professionals in clinical aromatherapy (AromaCare), and other clinical complementary (nursing) techniques to enhance quality of life for patients and their loved ones.
