16.01.2022 **BREAKING*** MINE SITE DEATH IN GOLDFIELDS The Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety has confirmed there has been a death following an incident ...at the Nova nickel-copper mine near Balladonia. DMIRS has confirmed it is a male. The $456 million Nova mine, 360 kilometres south-east of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, is on the edge of the Nullarbor and was officially opened by WA Mines Minister Bill Johnston in September 2017. In an ASX statement released by Independence Group NL, it revealed that the incident occurred at the Nova operation on September 11th. A spokesperson said that the worker later died on September 18th. We are deeply saddened by this tragic news and our heartfelt condolences go to the family," said Independence Group NL CEO Peter Bradford in a statement. "All our contractors, whether they are site based or not, are part of the IGO team. "We are making every effort to ensure we care for the wellbeing of all of our people." In a statement from Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety Director Mines Safety Andrew Chaplyn. "The Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DMIRS) is investigating an incident that occurred at a mine outside Norseman on 11 September 2019. "The worker was flown to Perth by the Royal Flying Doctor Service on the 11 September after being stabilised on-site. "DMIRS inspectors attended the mine site on 12 September 2019. "The department is aware the injured worker died at Royal Perth Hospital on 18 September 2019." More to follow...
