25.01.2022 Workplace safety is critical, and in certain industries the risk is far greater. The recent Queensland government Brady Report established that one-third of deaths in the mining and quarrying industries in that state this century involved vehicles. ARRB transport safety expert Paul Hillier made an important presentation to the state’s independent safety regulator Resources Safety & Health Queensland’s annual industry briefing about mitigating the risks of surface transpo...rt in the mining, quarrying, petroleum, gas and primary industry sectors. More than 160 delegates, including Minister for Resources Scott Stewart management and operational staff, unions and academia, listened to Paul’s presentation explaining ARRB’s work in this sector, and how ARRB can work together with companies and industry to learn from incidents that do occur and in identifying and surface transport mitigating risks and hazards all towards their goal of zero serious harm such that everyone returns safely to their home, every single day.
