22.01.2022 Our new Rhizopod system at the Noosa North Shore Beach Campground has 240 clumps of bamboo planted. )Case Study https://bit.ly/2VU0ziB) We sourced these species of clumping bamboo locally from Bamboo Australia. Not only have all 240 clumps survived, they have thrived and are shooting. Most clumps have had 2 shooting seasons in the 9 months since they were planted. Some of the new shoots are over 5 metres high. ... The quick growth, robustness, and high water usage rate of clumping bamboo species make them ideal for a no-release system such as the Rhizopod. Many thanks to Bamboo Australia for supplying us with such a high quality product. https://www.bambooaustralia.com.au/ https://www.facebook.com/bambooaustraliaoz/
22.01.2022 Presentation: Lake Gkula, Woodfordia, Queensland Australia. Woodfordia, is the home of the Woodford Folk Festival, the largest festival in the Southern Hemisphere. In 2019, a natural 3 million gallon swimming pool, called Lake Gkula was installed. Lake Gkula was designed & built by Patrick Handley of Waterscapes Australia (https://lnkd.in/fFyqchU). With no disinfection chemicals, water is filtered by up-flow rock filters and beneficial microorganisms. The Lake is stocked wit...h endemic native fish, reptiles, birds, eels and mollusc's. 6000 people can swim in the lagoon per day, 500 per hour. In this presentation Ben Kele, current WasteWater Education Board member, will discuss the water quality results of Lake Gkula. https://lnkd.in/gnB2fyW

16.01.2022 Arris enters into a Representative Agreement with Mazzei Injector Company for the Australian region. Arris has been successfully using Mazzei Injector Company products for 20 years. During the early research development stages of the Rhizopod system we needed to aerate the wastewater. We used Mazzei Injectors because of the high rate of oxygen transfer, the energy efficiency, and the robustness & reliability of the product. Two decades later were still using Mazzei injectors... in a wide range of our wastewater treatment systems. We have never had to replace a single Mazzei injector. Early in 2020, Ben Kele & Tony Kodel from Arris travelled to the head office of Mazzei Injector Company in Bakersfield, California. Looking over the full range of products, including innovative ideas like the wine pump over system, we were keen to develop the business relationship even further. Were incredibly happy to represent the Mazzei Injector Company in Australia. https://www.arris.com.au//products/mazzei-injector-company/

15.01.2022 Vale Denis Balkin Our wonderful friend and fantastic plumber Denis Balkin passed away on Easter weekend. It may sound like a contradiction in terms, but Denis was a cranky old plumber who brought great joy and skill to our job-sites and our fishing trips. It took a fantastic amount of skill to repeatedly catch just undersized Red Emperors for literally years in a row. Well always remember the smile on his face when he finally caught a legal one. Denis brought colour and fun into our lives and the world is a less interesting place with him gone. Thank you Denis for all of your help over the years, youll be truly missed.
14.01.2022 Wastewater-based epidemiology how measuring biomarkers in wastewater can reveal information about chemical consumption and population health - Dr Jake OBrien, University of Queensland. When: Tuesday 12 May 2020, 08:00 AM - 09:30 AM Time Zone: (GMT+10:00) Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney... To register now, please visit the following link: https://wateriswater.adobeconnect.com//e/registration.html Systematic sampling and analysis of biomarkers in wastewater is an increasingly used tool to complement more traditional techniques for assessing consumption of both licit and illicit chemical substances in the population. This approach contributes to a broader field that is referred to as wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE). Both spatial and temporal analysis can be conducted quantitatively, quickly and cost effectively using this approach. However, recently a similar approach has been used to evaluate both viruses and antimicrobial resistance at the population level. In this seminar, I will present the concept of wastewater-based epidemiology and demonstrate how it has been used to provide both spatial and temporal comparisons of illicit drugs and drugs of abuse potential. Dr Jake OBrien will discuss how wastewater-based epidemiology could be used to assist with virus and antimicrobial resistance surveillance. Presented by Ben Kele, Arris Water, and WasteWater Education 501(c)3 Dr. Jake O'Brien https://wateriswater.adobeconnect.com//e/speaker_info.html These events are presented through the generosity of the WWETT Show - (Water & Wastewater Equipment, Treatment & Transport) as a public service and thank you to all the hard working professionals affected by the current Covid 19 emergency. 11.01.2022 Ben Kele and Tony Kodel went to AirSep Corporation in Buffalo, New York State, in early February 2020. AirSep manufactures oxygen concentrators that are used to feed concentrated oxygen into Ozone Generators. Arris supplies and maintains a variety of Ozone generators to the Australian water and wastewater market. We use AirSep oxygen concentrators as part of our Ozone packages. Richard MacKenzie from AirSep trained Tony & Ben in the maintenance requirements of a wide range o...f AirSep oxygen concentrators. The training course was very beneficial and the team from AirSep were fantastic hosts. They even took Ben and Tony to nearby Niagara Falls. Everybody at Arris is hoping that all of the team and their families at AirSep are safe and well during the COVID-19 crisis. We thank them for their incredibly important work in supplying oxygen equipment to medical facilities. https://www.arris.com.au//water-projec/airsep-corporation/

06.01.2022 "Let it rain! Reuse for urban watersheds and drinking? Is it safe?" Webinar https://adobe.ly/3dYirzI When: Wednesday 20 May 2020, 09:00 AM - Wednesday 20 May 2020, 10:30 AM Time Zone: (GMT+10:00) Brisbane To register now, please visit the following link:... https://wateriswater.adobeconnect.com//e/registration.html To know more about the event, please visit our website: https://wateriswater.adobeconnect.com//eve/event_info.html Rainwater tanks have been a feature of urban society since the days of ancient civilizations in Persia, Greece & Jordon. With the wide spread advent of reticulated water in cities in the 20th century, they largely fell out of favour except for rural and peri-urban communities. However with extended drought conditions in Australian water catchments in the early 21st century, rainwater harvesting gained new interest as a supplementary source of potable (drinking) water. This acceptance was reinforced with the emergence of the Integrated Urban Water Management (IUWM) paradigm where all parts of the urban water cycle ( after suitable treatment) are considered to be legitimate contributors of the urban water supply. However when rainwater is formally incorporated into urban water supply planning, empirical knowledge of supply and safety need to converted into quantitative knowledge. This requirement lead to an extensive research program in Queensland which examined issues of supply , reliability, chemical & microbiological quality, maintenance, community acceptance , economics and regulatory/policy procedures as well as implications to stormwater management. This webinar will touch lightly on most of these topics, with particular emphasis on assessing human health aspects of its use for drinking & non drinking end uses. Ted Gardner is an adjunct Professor in the School of Engineering & Science at Victoria University. In a previous life he was a research leader in urban water issues in the Queensland Department of Natural Resources To know more, click https://wateriswater.adobeconnect.com//e/speaker_info.html

02.01.2022 Registrations are now open for the 2020 Onsite Wastewater Mega-Conference! "After careful consideration and evaluation, the Mega-Conference partners (NOWRA, VOWRA, NAWT, and SORA) decided to move the 2020 Onsite Wastewater Mega-Conference to an all-virtual format. This was a difficult decision, but it was driven by two critical factors: uncertainty surrounding our ability to hold this event safely, and uncertainty about whether the Commonwealth of Virginia would ease restrictions on the size of gatherings enough to enable our meeting to take place. Therefore, the entire conference will be moving to a virtual format." http://www.nowra.org/content.asp?pl=28&sl=426&contentid=426
