25.01.2022 Congratulations Rhoda Roberts

24.01.2022 Honouring the inspirational Rhoda Roberts who is leaving the Sydney Opera House this week. She inspired us to come on board - as philanthropy seed-funders - the transformative Dance Rites #dancerites. This was way back in 2014, just before the first Dance Rites in 2015 on the SOH's Western Forecourt. Now, of course, it's a stand alone event on the SOH Forecourt. In 2020, due to COVID, it pivoted into a digital format and on-country event across Australia.... This is what she wrote on her FB page today: With my last official day tomorrow at the Sydney Opera House I just wanted to take this moment to thank everyone from community custodians to the incredible performers and amazing production teams that have worked with us on all our projects during my nine years at the Sydney Opera House, as Head Of First Nations programming under the leadership of Louise Herron. It's been such an incredible time and will be sad to leave. But new horizons will open up as I become a full time freelancer. If any one is still interested in applying for the position- here is the details.

24.01.2022 The ACO has made a movie called River. (Details in this story). Meet the Director Jennifer Peedom I am interested in people in fairly extreme circumstances... in human vulnerability. I am really interested in how far you can push yourself. I would often end up in fairly remote places and as the only woman.

20.01.2022 We’re currently working on our third Art Assembly contemporary art commission. It’s with the incredible Deborah Kelly and a very diverse and powerful collective of choristers/performers/poets. Because of Covid all the behind the scenes things are being developed and rehearsed on-line, so it’s happening, but we just don’t know when it can actually be opened up to the public. Nothing is certain other than we are quietly working within all that can be done to keep a quiet momentum humming along. For some background on our ARROW Art Assembly commission check out our first two commissions - the first with Jason Phu and the second with Cherine Fahd - on our website link here:

19.01.2022 A famous story about the Stones describes them starving in order to make enough money to recruit a drummer then in no great rush to join the band. Literally! Keith Richards wrote in Life, his excellent 2010 memoir. We went shoplifting to get Charlie Watts. Mr. Watts was expensive then and, as it happened, chose for himself an image that seldom looked otherwise. To be honest, he once told GQ. I have a very old-fashioned and traditional mode of dress. 14.01.2022 THRILLING. We’re up and away - on Zoom. The first rehearsal of Creation, our third ARROW commission for the Sydney Opera House’s contemporary art project Art Assembly. This experimental commission - artist Deborah Kelly + collaborators (poets/writers/performers/choristers) - has been delayed because of Covid. Creation is based on a new liturgy by artist and writer SJ Norman, working in collaboration with Deborah Kelly and performers. ... We can now all move forward. 06.01.2022 Artist Lindy Lee is the artist commissioned. A new standard for public art - a monumental $14 million stainless-steel sculpture that the NGA hopes will set a new standard for Australian public art. The NGA last year drew criticism for a radical change of policy on acquisitions after it decided to spend its Collection Development Fund on fewer, but more valuable works that marked a moment of resolution or breakthrough for a particular artist, or a moment of innovation in art.

06.01.2022 If you're into contemporary dance, this is a must watch. It's compelling + beautiful. The Korean National Contemporary Dance Company asks: What is Dance? Here AI (called Madi) 'choreographs' a series of movements (using dots and lines). The dancers respond bringing emotion and consciousness.

03.01.2022 Philanthropy pledge. Wow! Now a billionaire, Melanie Perkins is one of the three founders of the wildly successful Australian start-up Canva. She and co-founder Cliff Obrecht (her husband) will give away a very large chunk of it away through philanthropy aimed at making the world a better place. Melanie and Cliff have just pledged to giveaway a 30 per cent stake in Canva which puts them on track to create the country’s largest charitable foundation.
